A New Method of Quantitatively Evaluating Fracability of Tight Sandstone Reservoirs Using Geomechanics Characteristics and In Situ Stress Field

This paper studied the fracability of tight sandstone reservoirs by means of incorporating geomechanics properties and surrounding in situ stresses into a new model. The new fracability evaluation model consists of variables such as brittleness index, critical strain energy release rate index, horizontal stress difference, and minimum horizontal principal stress gradient. The probability of interconnection of a complex fracture network was quantitatively studied by the brittleness index and horizontal principal stress difference index. The probability of obtaining a large stimulated reservoir volume was evaluated by the critical strain energy release rate index and minimum horizontal principal stress gradient which also quantifies conductivity. The phase equilibria of the reciprocal quaternary system LiBr-Li2SO4-KBr-K2SO4-H2O and its ternary sub-systems LiBr-Li2SO4-H2O and KBr-K2SO4-H2O at 308.15 K were studied using the isothermal dissolution equilibrium method. Then, the solubility data of the equilibrium solutions were collected, and the phase diagrams were plotted. The phase diagrams of the ternary sub-systems at 308.15 K were compared with those at other temperatures. This study found that the phase diagram of the LiBr-Li2SO4-H2O system at 308.15 K consisted of an invariant point, two solid-phase crystallization regions of Li2SO4·H2O and LiBr·2H2O, and their corresponding solubility curves. Influence of Power Supply Ripple on Injection Locking of Magnetron with Frequency Pushing Effect

The influence of anode voltage ripple on injection locking of a magnetron with frequency pushing effect has been studied systematically. Theoretical analysis shows that, when power supply ripple and injection ratio are constant, frequency pushing effect will increase the magnetron’s locking bandwidth. Meanwhile, the locking bandwidth decreases with the increase of power supply ripple. Thus, to achieve injection locking, both power supply ripple and frequency pushing effect must be considered. The experiment results show that at injection ratio μ of 0.003, frequency pushing effect at 0.5, and power supply ripple increases from 0% to 1% and 2.5%, the locking bandwidth of magnetron decreases by 0.32 MHz, 2.12 MHz. Oil−water relative permeability is an important parameter that affects fluid flow in porous media. It is usually obtained in a laboratory. Since rock resistivity and relative permeability are both effects of water saturation, they should theoretically have a relationship. Based on the parallel conduction principle of fluid and skeleton in porous media, the pore structure and fluid distribution can be simplified using the Kozeny−Carman permeability correction equation and the Archie formula, and the relative permeability model of the water phase can be deduced under different wetting conditions. The master oscillator power amplifier (MOPA) pulsed laser, one of the popular topologies for high-power fiber laser systems, is widely applied in industrial machining laser systems. In MOPA, the low-power pulsed laser, stimulated from a seed laser diode, is amplified by the high- power optical energy from pump laser diodes via the gain fiber. Generally, the high-power pump laser diodes are driven by lossy linear current drivers. The switched mode current drivers boost the driver efficiency but suffer from pulse energy consistency due to the current switching ripple. In this paper, a laser driver system that varies the switching frequency of current source to synchronize with pulsed laser repetition rate is analyzed and implemented. This article presents a gate driver circuit with all-magnetic isolation for driving silicon carbide (SiC) power devices in a three-level T-type bridge-leg. Gate driver circuitry for SiC devices has to be tolerant of rapid common-mode voltage changes. With respect to the resultant potentially problematic common-mode current paths, an arrangement of transformers is proposed for supplying the power devices with drive signals and power for their local floating gate driver circuits. The high-frequency carrier phase-switching technique is used to reduce the number of transformers. Signal timing and other implementation issues are addressed when using this arrangement with the T-type converter. Band-to-Band Transitions in InAs/GaSb Multi-Quantum-Well Structures Using k.p Theory: Effects of Well/Barrier Width and Temperature

We investigated the conduction- and valence-confined energy levels and first band-to-band transition energies of a type-II InAs/GaSb multi-quantum-well at 77 K and room temperature for various well and barrier thicknesses. We calculated the electron and hole confined energies based on Kane’s eight-band k.p formalism. We also explored the effect of the barrier width on the wells’ interactions, which was negligible for wells with a width wider than 30 nm. Moreover, we proposed a single exponential function to predict the first transition energies without considering the complex approach of k.p theory. Then, we measured the photoluminescence spectra of the manufactured samples, including thin wells (1, 2, and 3 monolayers) and wide barriers (50 nm). Finally, we made comparisons between the theoretical band-to-band transition energies for kz=0 and experimental results from the photoluminescence spectra for different well thicknesses at 77 and 300 K.

A Novel Single-Turn Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine for Electric Aircraft

This paper proposes a novel multi-phase single-turn permanent magnet synchronous motor (MSPMSM) to meet the stringent requirements of electric aircraft, such as high power density, high torque, and low mass and volume. The MSPMSM features a unique single-turn winding configuration, which can reduce the coil overhang, increase the power density and torque, and reduce the weight of the motor in conventional multi-turn motors. The proposed MSPMSM is studied by the finite element method (FEM) and compared to a conventional PMSM with the same geometry and PM usage. Inhibition of Four Inert Powders on the Minimum Ignition Energy of Sucrose Dust

In order to evaluate the effect of inert powder on the ignition sensitivity of sucrose dust, this study investigated the effects of NaHCO3, NaCl, NH4H2PO4 and Al(OH)3 on the minimum ignition energy (MIE) of sucrose dust. The results showed that all four different inert powders inhibited the MIE of sucrose dust, and all of them showed a trend that the smaller the particle size of the inert powders, the better the inhibition effect. The inhibition effect was ranked as NaHCO3 > NH4H2PO4 > NaCl > Al(OH)3. NaHCO3 and NH4H2PO4 had both physical and chemical inhibition effects, which were better compared to NaCl and Al(OH)3, which had only physical inhibition effects. Analysis of the flame images showed that the inert powder slowed down the combustion of the sucrose dust flame and reduced the flame height. No flame appeared in the region of higher inert powder concentration.

Jet velocity is an important parameter affecting the air entrainment rate of plunging liquid jet processes. While the vast majority of researchers have investigated the effect of jet velocity, only a few of them considered the effect of jet length in calculating the jet velocity at impingement point. This study investigates the difference (ΔV) between the jet velocity at the inception of the nozzle (Vj) and the impingement point (VL) for a range of operating conditions. Furthermore, bubble voidage inside the downcomer, another critical parameter in plunging jets, is estimated using three different voidage equations incorporated inside a momentum balance model to predict the two-phase elevation level (HR) inside the downcomer. This paper provides the results of the first stage, concerning the metallurgical silicon purification. Silicon was purified by a combined method consisting of slag refining with new slag composition and acid leaching. In the first phase, the metallurgical grade silicon produced by the classical carbothermic reduction method was investigated. In the second phase, the metallurgical purification by slag refining was completed using slags of various new compositions. The purified silicon samples obtained after the melting processes were analyzed for concentrations of impurities. Finally, acid leaching treatment of the obtained silicon was done, followed by elemental analysis of purified silicon. According to our experience we can determine that obtained silicon purity is adequate for further stages of planned study.
