Study on Multiphase Flow in a Wide-Width Continuous Casting Mold

The multiphase flow in the mold has a significant impact on the surface quality of the slab. In this paper, the multiphase flow in the mold is studied by establishing a one-quarter scale water mold, with the aid of a high-speed camera and particle image velocimetry (PIV). The oil phase will make the liquid surface velocity around the nozzle smaller. The greater the viscosity of the oil, the greater the critical water model casting speed and the shallower the critical immersion depth of submerged entry nozzle (SEN). Blowing will enhance the turbulence of the flow field in the mold and have a suppressing effect on the surface velocity. However, the vertical velocity of the narrow surface does not change significantly. The randomness of the bubble entering the mold from the nozzle can easily cause asymmetry of the instantaneous flow. SLAM algorithms generally use the last system posture to estimate its current posture. Errors in the previous estimations can build up and cause significant drift accumulation. This accumulation of error leads to the bias of choosing accuracy over robustness. On the contrary, sensors like GPS do not accumulate errors. But the noise distribution in the readings makes it difficult to apply in high-frequency SLAM systems. Residence Time Distribution of Non-Spherical Particles in a Continuous Rotary Drum

The motion of non-spherical particles with sharp edges, as they are commonly involved in practice, was characterized by residence time distribution (RTD) measurement in a continuous drum. Particles with two sizes, 6 and 10 mm, and two densities, 750 and 2085 kg/m3, were used in the experiments. The effects of rotation speed (3−11 rpm), incline angle (2−4°), feed rate, and mixture composition were investigated and compared to the results of other researchers on particles without sharp edges. We also fitted the RTD with an axial dispersion model to obtain a better insight into the flow behavior. MRT of non-spherical particles with sharp edges depends on ω−α similar to other shapes, while the value of alpha is higher for particles with sharp edges (0.9 < α < 1.24), especially at high incline angles. On Macroscopic Quantum Coherence with Synchronized Atoms and Molecules: Superradiance

The collective behavior of quantum particles is one of the most intriguing phenomena in quantum optics. In particular, superradiance refers to spontaneous collective emissions from a group of quantum particles behaving collectively as a whole due to the buildup of macroscopic quantum coherence. An important question is whether macroscopic quantum coherence is constructed by means of a quantum synchronization (i.e., a quantum analog of classical synchronization) or not. The purpose of this article is to draw attention to this question from the author’s perspective. A few selected studies relevant to synchronized atoms and molecules are discussed. The author concludes that collective behaviors of quantum particles may be formulated as quantum synchronizations, but extensive studies are still needed to confirm this hypothesis.

Paste backfill, which has high concentration and yield stress and behaves as a non-Newtonian fluid, is prepared at the surface plant and then transported underground. The aim of this article is to determine the effect of the biaxial loading of a car seat, in vertical and horizontal directions, on seating comfort. We measured the transfer characteristic in the vertical direction with a free load. The method of laboratory testing of the car seat was chosen due to the simple repetition of the tests, ensuring the same test conditions, with high accuracy of their reproduction. To determine the effect, tests with uniaxial loading were compared with tests with biaxial loading. The resulting characteristic was the transfer characteristic in the vertical direction. The effect of horizontal loading on the transfer characteristic of a car seat was determined.

Liquid-Ammonia-Mediated Dyeing Process of Wool at a Lower Temperature

Liquid ammonia as a non-aqueous medium has many physical properties close to water, such as small molecular weight and strong permeability. It has been widely used for the ecological processing of cellulosic fibers to improve their luster, softness and dyeing properties. The adsorption pore structure is the key affecting the technology of enhanced coal bed methane recovery (ECBM). A method of encapsulation of inorganic additives with organic materials was developed to improve the fine power flowability and film quality for powder coating. The flowability tests angle of repose (AOR) and avalanche angle (AVA) were conducted for the coating samples to characterize the effectiveness of the encapsulated additives on group C fine powder flowability. The results show that both AOR and AVA are significantly affected by the encapsulating materials, the encapsulating material weight percentage, as well as the total loading ratios of additives added in fine powders. Polyester shows the best performance on the modification of the additive due to the high similarity to host powder coating. Black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) have been employed for valorizing organic waste materials as the larvae are able to consume organic waste and transform it into valuable larval biomass. In this study, BSFL were found to potentially reduce blended sewage sludge. The addition of palm kernel expeller (PKE) fortified the protein and lipid content in blended sewage sludge substrates, leading to larval growth enhancement. Microencapsulation is a well-known technology for the lipid delivery system. It prevents the oxidation of fatty acids and maintains the quality of lipid after extraction from oil seed and processing. In flaxseed oil, the amount of ω-3 and ω-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids are 39.90−60.42% and 12.25−17.44%, respectively. A comprehensive review article on the microencapsulation of flaxseed oil has not been published yet. Realizing the great advantages of flaxseed oil, information about different technologies related to the microencapsulation of flaxseed oil and their characteristics are discussed in a comprehensive way, in this review article.
