Short-Term Electricity Price Forecasting Based on Similar Day-Based Neural Network

This paper presents four refined distance models to the application of forecasting short-term electricity price namely Euclidean norm, Manhattan distance, cosine coefficient, and Pearson correlation coefficient. The four refined models were constructed and used to select the days, which are like a reference day in electricity prices and loads, called similar days in this study. Using the similar days, the electricity prices of a forecast day were further obtained by similar day regression (SDR) and similar day based artificial neural network (SDANN). The simulation results of the case of the PJM (Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland) interchange energy market indicate the superiority and availability of the selection 45 framework days and three similar days based on Pearson correlation coefficient model.

A Generalized Multilevel Inverter Based on T-Type Switched Capacitor Module with Reduced Devices

Conventional multilevel inverters have problems in terms of their complicated expansion and large number of devices. This paper proposes a modular expanded multilevel inverter, which can effectively simplify the expansion and reduce the number of devices. The proposed inverter can ensure the voltage balancing of the voltage-dividing capacitors. The cascading of the T-type switched capacitor module and the step-by-step charging method of the switched capacitors enable the inverter to achieve high output voltage levels and voltage gain. In addition, the inversion can be achieved without the H-bridge, which greatly reduces the total standing voltage of the switches. The nine-level inverter of the proposed topology can be realized with only ten switches, obtaining a voltage gain that is two times larger. The above merits were validated through theoretical analysis and experiments. The proposed inverter has good application prospects in medium- and low-voltage photovoltaic power generation.

Ce0.9Gd0.1O2−x for Intermediate Temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cells: Influence of Cathode Thickness and Anode Functional Layer on Performance

The performances of Intermediate Temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (IT-SOFC) anode-supported planar cells with a 10 cm2 active surface were studied versus the combination of cathode thickness and the presence of an Anode Functional Layer (AFL). The temperature range was 500 to 650 °C, and Gd0.1Ce0.9O2−x (GDC) was used as the electrolyte material, Ni-GDC as the anode material, and La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3−d (LSCF48) as the cathode material. The power density, conductivity, and activation energy of different samples were determined in order to investigate the influence of the cathode thickness and AFL on the performance. These results showed an improvement in the performances when the AFL was not present. The maximum power density reached 370 mW·cm−2 at 650 °C for a sample with a cathode thickness of 50 µm and an electrolyte layer that was 20 µm thick. Hybrid Microencapsulated Phase-Change Material and Carbon Nanotube Suspensions toward Solar Energy Conversion and Storage

In this study, a new type of functional hybrid suspension for solar energy conversion and thermal energy storage was prepared by adding carbon nanotube (CNT) and microencapsulated phase-change material (MEPCM) into deionized water. MEPCM with octadecane as the core material and titania (TiO2) as the shell material was synthesized by the sol−gel method. The MEPCMs were spherical particles with diameters of 2−4 μm, and the thickness of the shell was about 100 nm. The MEPCM achieved better thermal stability and thermal conductivity than the pure octadecane due to the TiO2 shell. The melting and solidification latent heats of the MEPCM were about 154.24 and 154.26 J/g, respectively. The encapsulation efficiency of octadecane was calculated to be 65.84%. Mesoporous Activated Carbon Supported Ru Catalysts to Efficiently Convert Cellulose into Sorbitol by Hydrolytic Hydrogenation

Current Status of Energy Production from Solid Biomass in North-West Italy

Data on the thermochemical plants fed by solid biomass in the north-west area of Italy (Liguria, Lombardy, Piedmont and Aosta Valley) have been organised, analysed and discussed. Practical Performance Analysis of a Bifacial PV Module and System

Bifacial photovoltaic (PV) modules can take advantage of rear-surface irradiance, enabling them to produce more energy compared with monofacial PV modules. However, the performance of bifacial PV modules depends on the irradiance at the rear side, which is strongly affected by the installation setup and environmental conditions. In this study, we experiment with a bifacial PV module and a bifacial PV system by varying the size of the reflective material, vertical installation, temperature mismatch, and concentration of particulate matter (PM), using three testbeds. From our analyses, we found that the specific yield increased by 1.6% when the reflective material size doubled. Formation Kinetics of the Mixed Cyclopentane—Carbon Dioxide Hydrates in Aqueous Sodium Chloride Solutions

Hydrate formation from cyclopentane (CP) and carbon dioxide was measured at 281 K by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and macroscopic methods. The effect of initial pressure and CP mass fraction in liquid phase was analyzed. The results showed that hydrate formation was assumed to start with the nucleation of the mixed CP-CO2 hydrate with small fraction of CO2 followed by a large continuous CO2 adsorption. Initial pressure was found to have a positive correlation with the total CO2 consumptions when the initial pressure was below 2.5 MPa. However, the total CO2 consumptions dropped by over a half as the initial pressure was 3.0 MPa. PXRD revealed that all the hydrate samples formed at different initial pressures were structure II. Do Energy Resource Curse and Heterogeneous Curse Exist in Provinces? Evidence from China

This paper first uses panel data from 14 provinces with rich energy resources in China between 2001 and 2016 as a whole to test the energy resource curse hypothesis. It finds that there is no obvious resource curse from a general perspective. It further makes time prediction and transmission channel analysis based on regressions of each province and classifies them into four groups according to the different degrees of the resource curse. To investigate these issues, we used the weekly data of the European Union carbon emission allowance (EUA) futures, biofuel and Brent oil prices from 25 October 2009 to 5 July 2020. We employed the vector autoregressive-generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity (VAR-GARCH) model with the Baba, Engle, Kraft and Krone (BEKK) specification. The interface algorithm is critical for accuracy of the real-time integration simulation system of renewable energy and the power grid. To improve the overall performance of the existing interface algorithms, this paper proposes an optimized interface algorithm based on the auxiliary damping impedance method interface current feedback. We explain in detail the implementation principle of the new interface algorithm and the calculation method of impedance matching and also provide a parallel timing control logic. Using the new interface algorithm, we derive equations for voltage and current of the digital simulation system side and the device under test side and also compare it with the naturally coupled system without interface delay.
