Influence of Posture and Coil Position on the Safety of a WPT System While Recharging a Compact EV

In this study, the human exposure to the magnetic field emitted by a wireless power transfer (WPT) system during the static recharging operations of a compact electric vehicle (EV) is evaluated. Specifically, the influence of the posture of realistic anatomical models, both in standing and lying positions, either inside or outside the EV, is considered. Aligned and misaligned coil configurations of the WPT system placed both in the rear and front position of the car floor are considered as well. Compliance with safety standards and guidelines has proven that reference levels are exceeded in the extreme case of a person lying on the floor with a hand close to the WPT coils, whereas the system is always compliant with the basic restrictions, at least for the considered scenarios.

Does Air Pollution Impact Fiscal Sustainability? Evidence from Chinese Cities

Fiscal sustainability is an issue of great concern for governments globally and air pollution control has become an important factor affecting fiscal sustainability. This study aims to examine the impact of air pollution on fiscal sustainability in the short and long run. We conducted an empirical analysis based on air pollution and local government debt data on China’s prefecture-level cities in 2014−2019, using regression discontinuity design (RDD) and a panel data model. The results show that air pollution reduces the debt burden of governments in the short run. However, in the long run, addressing the negative impacts of air pollution adds to the debt burden of local governments, hindering fiscal sustainability. Fiscal freedom and the level of public services significantly moderate the negative impact of air pollution on fiscal sustainability. Health Monitoring and Diagnosis System for a Small H-Type Darrieus Vertical-Axis Wind Turbine

As the wind power market grows rapidly, the importance of technology for real-time monitoring and diagnosis of wind turbines is increasing. However, most of the developed technologies and research mainly focus on large horizontal-axis wind turbines, and research conducted on small- and medium-sized wind turbines is rare. In this study, a novel low-cost and real-time health monitoring and diagnosis system for the small H-type Darrieus vertical axis wind turbine is proposed. Turbine operating conditions were classified into parked/idle and power production. In the case of the power production condition, abnormality diagnosis was performed using key monitoring parameters, including vibration, fundamental frequency, the bending stress of the tower and generator vibration. The turbine abnormalities were diagnosed in two stages by applying the alert and alarm limits, determined by referring to international standards and material properties and the long-term measurement data together.

Hydrocarbon Fractions from Thermolysis of Waste Plastics as Components of Engine Fuels

The policies against climate change require the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions of marine transportation. To reach the planned goals, the most promising approach is working both on ships improvement and ports redesign. The latter must enable the new green ships supply with sustainable electrical energy, by integrating shore connection systems, local renewables, and energy storage systems. In this paper, a methodology to obtain such an objective is proposed, capable of taking into account both ships’ and ports’ characteristics. The methodology workflow is explained through a case study, where two shore connection power sizes and two different operative approaches for recharging the ship onboard energy storage are considered. A discussion about the most suitable energy storage technologies is also provided. The case study shows how the methodology can be applied, as well as demonstrating that the port infrastructure has a direct effect on the ship environmental performance.

CFD Simulations of the New Construction of Light Brattice Wall for Mine Shafts

Brattice walls in mine shafts are used for various purposes, for example, permanent brattice walls can be used to separate ventilation sections. They can be also used in the case of modernization of the hoisting system, as it is in Shaft no. 1 of the Szczygłowice department, part of the Knurów-Szczyłowice coal mine. To shorten the time and reduce costs of the hoist modernization, the shaft is to be partitioned into two sections—with the hoist operating in one of them and another one being modernized in the other section. The new construction of the light brattice wall was designed for this purpose. To prove its usefulness and safety it was tested in the laboratory and computer simulations. The following paper presents CFD simulations of the brattice—its methodology and results together with an overview of works to be conducted in the shaft.

Reference Trajectory Based Quasi-Sliding Mode with Event-Triggered Control

The study presents a novel event-triggered quasi-sliding mode control algorithm for linear discrete time systems. The problem is divided into two main parts. Firstly, the sliding mode control of perturbed discrete time systems is considered. In order to limit the impact of external disturbances to one sampling step only, a reference trajectory-based control law is introduced. The proposed control method drives the system’s representative point to an a priori designed reference position in each control step, thus minimizing the influence of disturbance and improving the robustness. Valorization of Distillery Stillage for Bioenergy Production: A Review

Employer Expectations Regarding the Competencies of Employees on the Energy Market in Poland

It is because of competencies that there is a possibility of ensuring the strategic safety of each country when it comes to energy security. With the vast development of IT and teamwork, there are various competencies needed in the whole energy sector. The aim of this study is to assess the needs of competencies in the Polish energy labor market as well as the trends among hard ad soft skills also in the context of renewable energy sources. Within an exploratory approach, 245 job advertisements were analyzed using various tools, including general descriptive statistics, Shapiro-Wilk, Kruskal−Wallis H and Mann−Whitney U tests, as well as Spearman’s Rho. The research confirmed that teamwork and MS Office are crucial demands of employers. It is also important that the market is diverse when it comes to competence demands, but soft skills are needed in every position, even purely technical ones.

Large Eddy Simulations on Film Cooling Flow Behaviors with Upstream Turbulent Boundary Layer Generated by Circular Cylinder

Large eddy simulations on film cooling hole array on a flat plate was carried out to investigate upstream turbulence effect. Circular cylinders were configured to create a turbulent boundary layer and its diameter has been adjusted to generate 13% upstream turbulence intensity in the main flow. Due to the small pitch to diameter configuration of the cylinder, two-dimensional LES analysis was carried out in advance and the results showed that LES was an essential method to resolve flow field around and downstream circular cylinder, which was not available in RANS simulations. The three-dimensional LES results showed reasonable agreement in turbulence intensity and normalized velocity distributions along the vertical with measured data. Natural dimension stone processing generates large volumes of stone waste, which have a significant impact on the environment, as well as on the efficiency and profitability of the stone-processing plant. The article presents the characteristics of waste produced as a result of natural dimension stone processing and the structure of the waste production process. Solid stone scraps and sludge were distinguished. On the basis of the performed analyses, it was shown that stone waste constitutes 10−35% in relation to the quantity of the processed stone material, with the quantity of sludge being even threefold greater than the volume of solid scraps. Thus, in this study, the solubility of CO2 in distilled water and aqueous ionic solutions of NaCl, MgCl2, CaCl2 and MgCl2 + CaCl2 were obtained in a low salinity range (0−15,000 ppm) at temperatures from 298−373 K and pressures up to 20 MPa using an accurate and unconventional method called potentiometric titration. An experimental data set of 553 data points was collected using this method. The results of the experiments demonstrate that increasing pressure increases the solubility of CO2 in various brines, whereas increasing temperature and salinity reduces the solubility.
