February 28, 2023 (v1)
Subject: Optimization
Keywords: durability, electromobility, energy management, fuel cell, fuel economy, hybrid drive, optimization process
Fuel cell hybrid electric vehicles have attracted a large amount of attention in recent years owing to their advantages of zero emissions, high efficiency and low noise. To improve the fuel economy and system durability of vehicles, this paper proposes an energy management strategy optimization method for fuel cell hybrid electric vehicles based on dynamic programming. Rule-based and dynamic-programming-based strategies are developed based on building a fuel cell/battery hybrid system model. The rule-based strategy is improved with a power distribution scheme of dynamic programming strategy to improve the fuel economy of the vehicle. Furthermore, a limit on the rate of change of the output power of the fuel cell system is added to the rule-based strategy to avoid large load changes to improve the durability of the fuel cell. The simulation results show that the equivalent 100 km hydrogen consumption of the strategy based on the dynamic programming optimization rules is reduced by 6.46%... [more]

A Well-Overflow Prediction Algorithm Based on Semi-Supervised Learning
February 28, 2023 (v1)
Subject: Modelling and Simulations
Keywords: deep learning, oil drilling, overflow, semi-supervised learning, time series prediction
Oil drilling is the core process of oil and natural gas resources exploitation. Well overflow is one of the biggest threats to safety drilling. Prediction of the overflow in advance can effectively avoid the occurrence of this kind of accident. However, the drilling history has unbalanced distribution, and labeling data is a time-consuming and laborious job. To address this issue, an overflow-prediction algorithm based on semi-supervised learning is designed in this paper, which can accurately predict overflow 10 min in advance when the labeled data are limited. Firstly, a three-step feature-selection algorithm is conducted to extract 22 features, and the time series samples are constructed through a 500-width sliding window with step size 1. Then, the Mean Teacher model with Jitter noise is employed to train the labeled and unlabeled data at the same time, in which a fused CNN-LSTM network is built for time-series prediction. Compared with supervised learning and other semi-supervised... [more]

Experimental and Numerical Investigation of Extinguishing Effectiveness of Inert-Gas Agents in a Leaky Enclosure
February 28, 2023 (v1)
Subject: Numerical Methods and Statistics
Keywords: a deep-seated fire, extinguishing effectiveness, gas-fire-suppression systems, inert-gas agents, leakage
Gas-fire-suppression systems are currently applied to some specific buildings in Norway, as sprinkler systems may not provide sufficient protection in some cases. The application of inert-gas-fire-suppression systems for hazard class 6 buildings needs further intensive validation by experimental and numerical study. Due to the presence of cracks and ventilation systems, it becomes doubtful whether inert-gas agents can extinguish a deep-seated fire located in a leaky enclosure. In this study, tests and numerical simulations were both conducted to investigate the extinguishing effectiveness of inert-gas agents for a closet fire in a leaky apartment. The results show that the location of cracks plays a nonnegligible role in determining the oxygen level in the leaky apartment. The tests and simulations demonstrated that the gas-fire-suppression system successfully extinguished the closet fire even if the activation of the gas-fire-suppression system was postponed or the path available for... A Nonstandard Path Integral Model for Curved Surface Analysis
February 28, 2023 (v1)
Subject: Numerical Methods and Statistics
Keywords: electromagnetic analysis, finite-difference time-domain methods, integral equations, numerical analysis, radar cross section
The nonstandard finite-difference time-domain (NS-FDTD) method is implemented in the differential form on orthogonal grids, hence the benefit of opting for very fine resolutions in order to accurately treat curved surfaces in real-world applications, which indisputably increases the overall computational burden. In particular, these issues can hinder the electromagnetic design of structures with electrically-large size, such as aircrafts. To alleviate this shortcoming, a nonstandard path integral (PI) model for the NS-FDTD method is proposed in this paper, based on the fact that the PI form of Maxwell’s equations is fairly more suitable to treat objects with smooth surfaces than the differential form. The proposed concept uses a pair of basic and complementary path integrals for H-node calculations. Moreover, to attain the desired accuracy level, compared to the NS-FDTD method on square grids, the two path integrals are combined via a set of optimization parameters, determined from the... [more]

A Study on the Vulnerability Cascade Propagation of Integrated Energy Systems in the Transportation Industry Based on the Petri Network
February 28, 2023 (v1)
Subject: Energy Systems
Keywords: functional Petri net, integrated energy systems, transportation, vulnerability cascade propagation
In order to solve the vulnerability problem of the integrated energy system in the transportation industry, a vulnerability cascade propagation model based on the Petri net is proposed. The article comprehensively considers the configuration of the energy system, constructs the cascade propagation-based function Petri net model using a hierarchical modelling approach, and performs vulnerability cascade propagation analysis using Matlab on this basis. However, the integrated energy system of the transportation industry is complex and extensive, and it is not easy to model the Petri network of the whole transportation industry, which will be continued in-depth in the subsequent research. The study results show that the energy system’s vulnerability keeps changing with the growth of time, and the factors in maintaining the equilibrium vary from one subsystem to another. In addition, the ringed structure is more vulnerable compared to the acyclic structure, and the vulnerability cascade pr... [more]

A Trans-Inverse Magnetic Coupling Single-Phase AC-AC Converter
February 28, 2023 (v1)
Subject: Modelling and Simulations
Keywords: AC-AC conversion, commutation strategy, magnetic coupling, trans-inverse converter
This paper introduces a new single-phase AC-AC converter based on an impedance source circuit. Like the existing single-phase impedance source AC-AC converters, it has the buck-boost ability and direct ac conversion. The input and output voltage possesses the same ground, and the phase angle is maintained and reversed smoothly. The presented converter utilizes a coupled transformer which allows the designer to exploit the transformer’s turns ratio as a variable to attain the desired output voltage. Additionally, the used transformer provides an option to obtain higher voltage gain by decreasing the turns ratio. Hence, smaller size of the coupled inductors is required for the higher voltage cases. To eliminate the switching voltage and current spikes on the power switches, a safe commutation strategy is used instead of utilizing snubber circuits. Furthermore, the input current is continuous and sinusoidal with low harmonics thanks to embedding the input inductor in series with the input... [more]

The Online Parameter Identification Method of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine under Low-Speed Region Considering the Inverter Nonlinearity
February 28, 2023 (v1)
Subject: System Identification
Keywords: adaptive observer, deadtime compensation, inverter nonlinearity, neural network, parameter identification
To realize the high-performance control of a servo system, parameter accuracy is very important for the design of the controller. Thus, the online parameter identification method has been widely researched. However, the nonlinearity of the inverter will lead to an increase in resistance identification error and the fluctuation of inductance identification results. Especially in the low-speed region, the influence of the inverter is more obvious. In this paper, an offline neural network is proposed considering the parasitic capacitance to identify the nonlinearity of the inverter. Based on the Kirchhoff equation in the static state of the motor, the nonlinear voltage equation is established, and the gradient direction of the weight coefficients has been re-derived. Using the gradient descent method, the identification error can converge to zero. Moreover, the d-axis voltage equation is established considering the nonlinearity of the inverter and an online adaptive observer was proposed.... [more]

Hybrid Quasi-Optimal PID-SDRE Quadrotor Control
February 28, 2023 (v1)
Subject: Process Control
Keywords: attitude control, PID control, quadrotor, SDRE control, state-dependent riccati equation technique, UAV
In the paper, a new cascade control system for an autonomous flight of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) based on Proportional−Integral−Derivative (PID) and finite-time State-Dependent Riccati Equation (SDRE) control is proposed. The PID and SDRE controllers are used in a hybrid control system for precise control and stabilization, which is necessary to increase the drone’s flight stability and maneuver precision. The hybrid PID-SDRE control system proposed for the quadrotor model is quasi-optimal, since the suboptimal control algorithm for the UAV stabilization is used. The combination of the advantages of PID and SDRE control gives a significant improvement in the quality of control while maintaining the simplicity of the control system. Furthermore, the use of the suboptimal control technique provides the UAV attitude tracking in finite time. These remarks are drawn from a series of simulation tests conducted for the drone model.

The Identification of Travelling Waves in a Voltage Sensor Signal in a Medium Voltage Grid Using the Short-Time Matrix Pencil Method
February 28, 2023 (v1)
Subject: System Identification
Keywords: instrument transformer, medium voltage, short-time matrix pencil method, travelling wave fault location, travelling waves, voltage sensor
Most of the fault wave localization methods are based on the analysis of line current transformed by current transformers and are limited to high voltage grids. Fault wave localization in medium voltage grids is still being developed. This paper presents a new real-time algorithm for the identification of travelling waves in a distribution grid using voltage signal and the short-time matrix pencil method. To obtain the secondary side voltage waveforms at substation, the model of a resistive voltage sensor based on the broadband measurements from 10 Hz to 20 MHz was developed. The tested sensor amplifies the frequencies associated with travelling waves more than utility frequency allowing for the identification. Short-circuit simulations on the IEEE 34-bus feeder was performed to test the algorithm. The developed method can detect even the waves of low amplitude.
