The Application of Response Surface Methodology for 2,4,6-Trichlorophenol Removal from Aqueous Solution Using Synthesized Zn2+-Al3+-Tartrate Layered Double Hydroxides

Trichlorophenols are on the US environmental protection agency’s list of priority pollutants due to their serious damage to water safety. With the aim of adsorbing the 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (2,4,6-TCP), Zn2+-Al3+-tartrate layered double hydroxides (Zn2+-Al3+-C4H4O62−-LDHs) adsorbent was synthesized via homogeneous precipitation method. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Fourier infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS) were used to characterize Zn2+-Al3+-C4H4O62−-LDHs. The concentration of 2,4,6-TCP was determined using gas chromatography−mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Zn2+-Al3+-C4H4O62−-LDHs exhibited a good adsorption performance of 2,4,6-trichlorophenol, since a bigger layer spacing of Zn2+-Al3+-C4H4O62−-LDHs was obtained than that in Zn2+-Al3+-CO32−-LDHs. In mechanized rice harvesting, the performance of the cleaning device is one of the important factors that affect the overall efficiency of the combine-harvester. To study the influence of different parameters on the cleaning efficiency, the influence of airflow velocity and the inclination angle on the cleaning effect was analyzed. Both simulation and experimental results prove that the increase of airflow velocity and the inclination angle will reduce the impurity rate of rice and increase the entrainment loss rate. The addition of a vibrating sieve to the device reduces the trash rate of rice, but the entrained loss rate increases accordingly. The mixture of water extracts from Tanacetum parthenium and Salix alba was studied in an ex vivo assessment of neurotoxicity constituted by isolated mouse cortex specimens challenged with K+ 60 mM Krebs−Ringer buffer (neurotoxicity stimulus). The effects of the mixture on lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), nitrite and serotonin levels were investigated. The phytochemical profile of the mixture was also evaluated. A docking approach was conducted to predict, albeit partially, the putative mechanism underlying the observed effects. The extracts displayed a good profile of polyphenolic compounds (22 chromatographic peaks detected), with caftaric acid and epicatechin being the prominent phenols. Influence of Nano-Silica/Chitosan Film Coating on the Quality of ‘Tommy Atkins’ Mango

In this study, we assessed the coating of ‘Tommy Atkins’ mangoes with films containing chitosan and nano-silicon dioxide in terms of the effects on fruit parameters as an indicator of quality. After coating, the fruits were first stored at 13 ± 1 °C and 90−95% RH for 30 days, and then at 20 ± 2 °C and 70−75% RH for 5 days, which corresponds to the marketing period. The results showed that coating treatments significantly decreased the fruits’ weight loss and decay percentage compared to the uncoated control samples over the storage period. Additionally, all coated treatments delayed skin degreening, reduced endogenous ethylene production, suppressed respiration rate, and maintained the firmness, compared to untreated control fruit. This article presents the application of a novel system for the treatment of fruit and vegetable waste (FVW) using the combination of treatment by the application of the liquid fraction to an anaerobic hydrolytic bioreactor and a constructed wetland. The batch-fed anaerobic bioreactor (AB) had an average organic loading rate of 44 g COD/L-d and a hydraulic residence time (HRT) of 24 h for the degradation of the liquid fraction of the FVW with an average COD removal of 55%. Effectiveness of Ozonated Water for Preserving Quality and Extending Storability of Star Ruby Grapefruit

The aim of this study was to explore the impact of aqueous ozone technology on maintaining grapefruit flavor and freshness by minimizing the occurrence of postharvest deterioration. During the 2018 and 2019 seasons, Star Ruby grapefruit fruits were treated with 0.3 and 0.6 ppm aqueous ozone for 5 and 10 min after harvest at water temperatures of 5 °C and 15 °C, respectively. The fruits were stored for 40 days at 8 ± 1 °C with 85−90% relative humidity. The results revealed that all the ozonated water treatments reduced physiological weight loss, disease infection, and decay, as well as providing long-term protection to the fruits throughout storage. Within this article, the nonlinear vibration control of the rotor active magnetic bearings system is tackled utilizing the integral resonant controller for the first time. Two integral resonant controllers are proposed to mitigate the system lateral oscillations in the horizontal and vertical directions. Based on the suggested control technique, the whole system dynamical model is derived as a two-degree-of-freedom nonlinear system (i.e., rotor system) coupled linearly to two first-order filters (i.e., the integral resonant controllers). The nonlinear autonomous system that governs the oscillation amplitudes of the controlled system as a function of the control parameters is extracted by applying perturbation analysis. The vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) is a promising and commercially available technology that poses advantageous features for stationary energy storage. In recent years, anion exchange membranes (AEMs) have gained interest in VRFB research as they in general exhibit lower vanadium crossover due to a more substantial Donnan exclusion effect. Manno-Oligosaccharide Production from Biomass Hydrolysis by Using Endo-1,4-β-Mannanase (ManNj6-379) from Nonomuraea jabiensis ID06-379

A novel endo-β-1,4-mannanase gene was cloned from a novel actinomycetes, Nonomuraea jabiensis ID06-379, isolated from soil, overexpressed as an extracellular protein (47.8 kDa) in Streptomyces lividans 1326. This new endo-1,4-β-mannanase gene (manNj6-379) is encoded by 445-amino acids. The ManNj6-379 consists of a 28-residue signal peptide and a carbohydrate-binding module of family 2 belonging to the glycoside hydrolase (GH) family 5, with 59−77% identity to GH5 mannan endo-1,4-β-mannanase. The recombinant ManNj6-379 displayed an optimal pH of 6.5 with pH stability ranging between 5.5 and 7.0 and was stable for 120 min at 50 °C and lower temperatures. The optimal temperature for activity was 70 °C. An enzymatic hydrolysis assay revealed that ManNj6-379 could hydrolyze commercial β-mannan and biomass containing mannan.

The Content of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Slavonska slanina—Traditionally Smoked and Dry-Cured Bacon

The goal of this study was to determine the concentrations of 16 PAHs (PAH16) naphthalene—Nap, acenaphthylene—Anl, acenaphthene—Ane, fluorene—Flu, phenanthrene—Phen, anthracene—Ant, fluoranthene—Flt, pyrene—Pyr, benz[a]anthracene—BaA, chrysene—Chry, benzo[b]fluoranthene—BbF, benzo[k]fluoranthene—BkF, benzo[a]pyrene—BaP, indeno[1,2,3-cd]pyrene—InP, dibenz[a,h]anthracene—DahA and benzo[g,h,i]perylene—BghiP) in Slavonska slanina traditionally smoked bacon over open fire and industrially smoked on a smoke generator with a heated plate. Forecasting the 10.7-cm Solar Radio Flux Using Deep CNN-LSTM Neural Networks

Predicting the time series of 10.7-cm solar radio flux is a challenging task because of its daily variability. This paper proposed a non-linear method, a convolutional and recurrent neural network combined model to achieve end-to-end F10.7 forecasts. The network consists of a one-dimensional convolutional neural network and a long short-term memory network. The CNN network extracted features from F10.7 original data, then trained the feature signals in the long short-term memory network, and outputted the predicted values. The F10.7 daily data during 2003−2014 are used for the testing set. The mean absolute percentage error values of approximately 2.04%, 2.78%, and 4.66% for 1-day, 3-day, and 7-day forecasts, respectively. The statistical results of evaluating the root mean square error, spearman correlation coefficient shows a superior effect as a whole for the 1−27 days forecast, compared with the ordinary single neural network and combination models.

Here, we report that Bombyx mori nucleopolyhedrovirus (BmNPV) may take advantage of the host SUMOylation system to enhance its own replication, similar to many other viruses. Both the knockdown of BmSUMO by RNAi and chemical blocking by ginkgolic acid both impaired BmNPV replication. Using site mutation and pull-down assays, we found that lysine K70 of the protein kinase-interacting protein (PKIP), which is conserved in all Alphabaculoviruses, was modified by SUMO. Mutation of K70 in PKIP led to its translocation from the cytoplasm to the nucleus. Knockout and rescue experiments showed that the rescue of PKIP mutant virus with wild-type PKIP restored BmNPV replication to the normal level, but this was not true for the K70R mutation. Best Operating Conditions for Biogas Production in Some Simple Anaerobic Digestion Models

We consider one-step and two-step simple models of anaerobic digestion that are able to adequately capture the main dynamical behaviour of the full anaerobic digestion model ADM1. We do not consider specific growth functions. We only require them to satisfy certain qualitative assumptions. These assumptions are satisfied for concave growth functions, but they are also satisfied for a large class of growth functions found in many applications. We consider the maximisation of the biogas production with respect to the operating parameters of the model, which are the dilution rate and the substrate input concentration. We give the best operating conditions and we describe them as a subset of the set of operating parameters. Our models incorporate biomass decay terms, corresponding to maintenance. Numerical plots with specified growth functions and biological parameters illustrate the obtained results.

Wheat alpha-amylase/trypsin inhibitors remain a subject of interest considering the latest findings showing their implication in wheat-related non-celiac sensitivity (NCWS). Understanding their functions in such a disorder is still unclear and for further study, the need for pure ATI molecules is one of the limiting problems. In this work, a simplified approach based on the successive fractionation of ATI extracts by reverse phase and ion exchange chromatography was developed. ATIs were first extracted from wheat flour using a combination of Tris buffer and chloroform/methanol methods. The separation of the extracts on a C18 column generated two main fractions of interest F1 and F2. Date palm fruits (Phoenix dactylifera) contain high levels of fructose and glucose sugars. These natural sugar forms are healthy, nutritional and easily assimilate into human metabolism. The successful production of soluble date sugar powder from nutritious date fruits would result in a new food product that could replace the commercial refined sugar. In this work, a novel process technology based on the supercritical extraction of sugar components from date pulp was modeled and simulated using Aspen Plus software.
