Economic Dispatch Model of Nuclear High-Temperature Reactor with Hydrogen Cogeneration in Electricity Market
March 3, 2023 (v1)
Subject: Optimization
Keywords: economic dispatch, Hydrogen, integrated energy systems, iodine–sulfur cycle, Nuclear, Stochastic Optimization
Hydrogen produced without carbon emissions could be a useful fuel as nations look to decarbonize their electricity, transport, and industry sectors. Using the iodine−sulfur (IS) cycle coupled with a nuclear heat source is one method for producing hydrogen without the use of fossil fuels. An economic dispatch model was developed for a nuclear-driven IS system to determine hydrogen sale prices that would make such a system profitable. The system studied is the HTTR-GT/H2, a design for power and hydrogen cogeneration at the Japan Atomic Energy Agency’s High Temperature Engineering Test Reactor. This study focuses on the development of the economic model and the role that input data plays in the final calculated values. Using a historical price duration curve shows that the levelized cost of hydrogen (LCOH) or breakeven sale price of hydrogen would need to be 98.1 JPY/m3 or greater. Synthetic time histories were also used and found the LCOH to be 67.5 JPY/m3. The price duration input was f... [more]

March 3, 2023 (v1)
Subject: Optimization
Keywords: 5G network, drone inspection, PSO optimization, solar energy harvesting, solar farms, thermal imaging analysis
The impact of multimedia in day-to-day life and its applications will be increased greatly with the proposed model (MSVPC)−5G Multicast SDN network eminence video transmission obtained using PSO and cross layer progress in wireless nodes. The drone inspection and analysis in a solar farm requires a very high number of transmissions of various videos, data, animations, along with all sets of audio, text and visuals. Thus, it is necessary to regulate the transmissions of various videos due to a huge amount of bandwidth requirement for videos. A software-defined network (SDN) enables forwarder selection through particle swarm optimization (PSO) mode for streaming video packets through multicast routing transmissions. Transmission delay and packet errors are the main factors in selecting a forwarder. The nodes that transfer the videos with the shortest delay and the lowest errors have been calculated and sent to the destination through the forwarder. This method involves streaming to be in... Goods Delivery with Electric Vehicles: Electric Vehicle Routing Optimization with Time Windows and Partial or Full Recharge
March 3, 2023 (v1)
Subject: Optimization
Keywords: charging station, electric vehicle, electromobility, goods delivery, metaheuristics, vehicle routing problem
With the rise of the electric vehicle market share, many logistic companies have started to use electric vehicles for goods delivery. Compared to the vehicles with an internal combustion engine, electric vehicles are considered as a cleaner mode of transport that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions. As electric vehicles have a shorter driving range and have to visit charging stations to replenish their energy, the efficient routing plan is harder to achieve. In this paper, the Electric Vehicle Routing Problem with Time Windows (EVRPTW), which deals with the routing of electric vehicles for the purpose of goods delivery, is observed. Two recharge policies are considered: full recharge and partial recharge. To solve the problem, an Adaptive Large Neighborhood Search (ALNS) metaheuristic based on the ruin-recreate strategy is coupled with a new initial solution heuristic, local search, route removal, and exact procedure for optimal charging station placement. March 3, 2023 (v1)
Subject: Optimization
Keywords: energy system optimization, grid flexibilization, oemof-Solph, optimal power flow, PowerFactory, sector coupling
As a consequence of the increasing share of renewable energies and sector coupling technologies, new approaches are needed for the study, planning, and control of modern energy systems. Such new structures may add extra stress to the electric grid, as is the case with heat pumps and electrical vehicles. Therefore, the optimal performance of the system must be estimated considering the constraints imposed by the different sectors. In this research, an energy system dispatch optimization model is employed. It includes an iterative approach for generating grid constraints, which is decoupled from the linear unit commitment problem. The dispatch of all energy carriers in the system is optimized while considering the physical electrical grid limits. From the considered scenarios, it was found that in a typical German neighborhood with 150 households, a PV penetration of ∼5 kWp per household can lead to curtailment of ∼60 MWh per year due to line loading. Furthermore, the proposed method eli... [more]

Subject: Optimization
Keywords: assembly line, decision making, Industry 4.0, information flow
Last year’s developments are characterized by a dramatic drop in customer demand leading to stiff competition and more challenges that each enterprise needs to cope with in a globalized market. Production in low-mix/high-volume batches is replaced with low-volume/high-variety production, which demands excessive information flow throughout production facilities. To cope with the excessive information flow, this production paradigm requires the integration of new advanced technology within production that enables the transformation of production towards smart production, i.e., towards Industry 4.0. The procedure that helps the decision-makers to select the most appropriate I4.0 technology to integrate within the current assembly line considering the expected outcomes of KPIs are not significantly been the subject of the research in the literature. Keywords: Energy Storage, European research projects, flexibility, Horizon 2020 Framework Programme, Optimization, Power-to-X, smart energy systems
Europe stated the ambitious target of becoming carbon neutral by 2050 to combat climate change and meet the requirements imposed by the Paris Agreement, and renewable energy has proved to be a promising solution for the decarbonization of many sectors. Nonetheless, their aleatory nature leads to grid unbalances due to the difference between supply and demand. Storage solutions are needed, and electrofuels become a key factor in this context: they are fuels produced from electricity, which leads to carbon-neutral fuels if it originates from renewable sources. These can constitute a key solution to store the surplus energy and to decarbonize the so-called hard-to-abate sectors. Electrofuel production technologies have not yet been fully developed, and, in this context, extensive study of the state-of-the-art of existing projects can be very useful for researchers and developers. Keywords: energy storage system, genetic algorithm (GA), minimum electrical energy cost for the consumer, optimal home energy management strategy, plug-in electric vehicle, Solar Photovoltaic, time-of-use (TOU) tariffs
It is well documented that both solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and electric vehicles (EVs) positively impact the global environment. However, the integration of high PV resources into distribution networks creates new challenges because of the uncertainty of PV power generation. Additionally, high power consumption during many EV charging operations at a certain time of the day can be stressful for the distribution network.
