Keywords: Cretaceous reservoir, petrophysical analysis, well logs, Yakela gas condensate field
This paper evaluated the oil and gas potential of the Cretaceous Yageliemu clastic reservoir within the Yakela condensed gas field lying in the Kuqa Depression, Tarim Basin, China. The petrophysical properties of the interest zones in the Kuqa area were characterized using geophysical logs from five wells. The results reveal that the gas-bearing zones are characterized by high resistivity, good permeability (K) and effective porosity (Φeff), low water saturation (Sw), and low shale concentration (Vsh), reflecting clean sand. The shale distribution model showed that these shales have no major influence on porosity and fluid saturation. The average shale volume, average effective porosity, and hydrocarbon saturation indicate that the Cretaceous Yageliemu Formation in the studied area contains prospective reservoir properties. The spatial distribution of petrophysical parameters, reservoir rock typing (RRT), and lithofacies were analyzed using the cross plots of litho saturation (volumetr... [more]

The outdoor performance monitoring of perovskite modules over 16 weeks is reported. Two different types of active perovskite layers were studied: one type contained formamidinium chloride (FACl) halide additives and the other contained no additives with the main purpose to investigate performance trends during the outdoor exposure of those type of devices. Long-term side-by-side outdoor testing of devices with and without halide additives was not implemented in the past and merits investigation in order to determine the impact of additives on perovskite performance and stability. Although the two types of modules displayed similar initial outdoor performance characteristics, their outdoor performance evolution differed. Different degradation rates between the modules with and without additives were obtained just after field installation. In particular, the modules with additives exhibited higher performance degradation under open-circuit loading conditions between current-voltage (IV)... [more]

April 18, 2023 (v1)
Subject: Other
Keywords: maximum power, resonance, wireless power transfer
This study proposes an approach to obtain maximum power via wireless power transfer using a single primary-side capacitor. It is shown that higher power is achieved when compared to the common wireless power transfer circuit under resonance with dual (primary- and secondary-side) capacitors. This approach is divided into three phases. By choosing the capacitor and frequency as freely assignable variables, we symbolically obtain a formula that allows us to determine the optimized capacitance and frequency for maximum power. To verify our method, we used a numerical analysis and compared it with an electronic circuit simulation. The symbolic formula is able to maintain maximum power despite changes in load or in the coupling coefficients.

Keywords: constant current (CC) output, cooperative coil, misalignment tolerance, wireless power transfer (WPT)
This paper proposes a cooperative (Cx) coil design for the series-series-series (S-S-S)-compensated wireless power transfer (WPT) system to improve the horizontal misalignment tolerance and the system efficiency. The Cx coil is formed by four series-connected rectangular coils and integrated into the transmitter (Tx) coil to provide a coupling variation opposite to that of the Tx coil, obtaining the constant equivalent mutual inductance (MI). The design overcomes the problem that the decoupling-designed intermediate coil does not participate in system energy delivery under the well-aligned condition. A misalignment tolerant design with the zero-phase-angle (ZPA) input and load-independent constant current (CC) output conditions is presented based on the Delta-Wye network transform and linear regression. A comparison between the proposed design and a two-coil system using a similar amount of copper, i.e., the Tx coil plus the Cx coil, is made. Finally, a 218.08 W/85.85 kHz scaled-down p... [more]

Faced with the increasingly serious energy crisis and environmental pollution problems, traditional internal combustion engine vehicles are receiving more and more resistance, which has rapidly promoted the development of new energy electric vehicles. Permanent magnet synchronous motors are widely used in new energy electric vehicles and in other fields because of their simple structure, light weight, small size, and high power density. With the continuous advancement of production technology, the requirements of accuracy, rapidity, and stability in permanent magnet synchronous motor systems have gradually increased. Among many advanced control technologies, this paper proposes an optimized model predictive torque control strategy based on voltage vector expansion. This strategy involves the construction of a reference stator flux linkage vector based on the analytical relationship between electromagnetic torque, reference stator flux linkage amplitude, and rotor flux linkage and the t... Keywords: extinction limit, Hydrogen, ignition delay times, laminar burning velocity, methane, rapid compression machine
In this work, the influence of H2 addition on the auto-ignition and combustion properties of CH4 is investigated experimentally and numerically. Experimental ignition delay times (IDT) are compared with simulations and laminar burning velocities (LBVs), and extinction limits/extinction strain rates (ESRs) are compared with data from the literature. A wide variety of literature data are collected and reviewed, and experimental data points are extracted for IDT, LBV and ESR. The results are used for the validation of existing reaction mechanisms. The reaction mechanisms and models used are able to reproduce the influence of H2 addition to CH4 (e.g., shortening IDTs, increasing ESRs and increasing LBVs). IDTs are investigated in a range from 6 to 15 bar and temperatures from 929 to 1165 K with H2 addition from 10 to 100 mol%. We show that LBV and ESR are predicted in a wide range by the numerical simulations. Moreover, the numerical simulations using detailed Aramco Mech 3.0 (581 species)... [more]

Keywords: efficiency, FEA, loss, static air-gap eccentricity, synchronous generator
This paper presents a precise analysis of the efficiency characteristic of the synchronous generator under both normal and SAGE conditions. In this work, various losses of the synchronous generator are computed by the qualitative theoretical model and the finite element analysis in detail. Further, the generator efficiency model is proposed according to the relationship between the output power and the loss. The presented model is verified in a 5-kW non-salient synchronous generator. The result demonstrates that the loss increases and the efficiency reduce as the SAGE intensifies.

Keywords: aromatic nitramines, energetic properties, methylene group, resistance to shock stimuli, stability
The investigation of a series of secondary aromatic nitramines was performed to reveal the impact of incremental methylene groups on the stability, shock impulse, and energetic properties of these compounds. Becke’s three-parameter hybrid functional approach with non-local correlation provided by Lee, Yang, and Parr and a cc-pVTZ basis set was used to obtain the geometry, total energy, and heat of formation of the most stable conformers of these aromatic nitramines. These parameters were used to evaluate the density, resistance to shock stimuli, detonation pressure, and velocity of the nitramines under study. Referring to the results obtained, we concluded that the thermal stability and resistance to shock stimuli of the compound investigated was directly CH2 chain length-dependent, while their energetic- properties, such as detonation pressure and velocity, were worsened due to this chain increase. We also found that the stability of the compounds increases more significantly than the... [more]

Keywords: depth-domain seismic inversion, Pre-Caspian basin, seismic waveform
Prestack depth-migrated seismic data, having more accurate imaging position and amplitude fidelity than prestack time-migrated seismic data, are supposed to produce a higher quality reservoir prediction result by using depth-domain inversion. Some researchers have developed different methods of depth-domain seismic inversion. However, it has not been widely used in the industry probably because of two reasons: (1) it is a complex process to conduct depth-domain seismic inversion due to the nonstationary depth-domain seismic wavelet; and (2) time-domain seismic inversion is considered capable of solving the problem with less cost, both in regard to time and the economy. In this paper, we try to use the seismic waveform indicator inversion method in the depth domain. First, a forward model was built to demonstrate that seismic waveforms both in the time domain and the depth domain are highly correlated with lithologic associations. Second, a quantitative evaluation method of seismic data... [more]

For high electron mobility transistors (HEMTs) power transistors based on AlGaN/GaN heterojunction, p-GaN gate has been the gate topology commonly used to deplete the two dimensional electron gas (2-DEG) and achieve a normally-OFF behavior. But fully recessed MIS gate GaN power transistors or MOSc-HEMTs have gained interest as normally-OFF HEMTs thanks to the wider voltage swing and reduced gate leakage current when compared to p-GaN gate HEMTs. However the mandatory AlGaN barrier etching to deplete the 2-DEG combined with the nature of the dielectric/GaN interface generates etching-related defects, traps, and roughness. As a consequence, the threshold voltage (VTH) can be unstable, and the electron mobility is reduced, which presents a challenge for the integration of a fully recessed MIS gate. Recent developments have been studied to solve this challenge. In this paper, we discuss developments in gate recess with low impact etching and atomic layer etching (ALE) alongside surface tre... Keywords: hygrothermal reference year, hygrothermal simulation, meteorological data, moisture control design
Hygrothermal simulations have become essential for sustainable and resilient building design because moisture is the major cause of problems in buildings. Appropriate meteorological input data are important to obtain meaningful simulation results. Therefore, this article reviews different methods to create Hygrothermal Reference Years (HRY) as severe or average climate inputs. The current standards define HRYs solely based on outdoor temperature, although moisture problems are caused by a combination of climate parameters, including driving rain and other loads. Therefore, there are also methods considering several impact parameters. The existing methods can be classified into two categories: construction-independent and construction-dependent methods. The former determines HRY based on a weather data analysis and is useful for large-scale parametric studies comprising many climatic parameters acting on buildings. The latter is based in addition to computer simulations to verify the HR... [more]

This paper proposes a control technique for a large-scale grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) plant that maintains the connection of an inverter to the grid voltage under different types of faults, while injecting a reactive power to accommodate the required grid connection. This control strategy is suggested to improve the low-voltage ride-through (LVRT) capability of grid-connected PV power generation plants. A 20 MW solar PV power plant is modeled and simulated using Matlab/Simulink. The power plant is composed of 10 parallel groups of arrays with a power rating of 2 MWp. The solar PV arrays are connected to a medium-voltage side-rated 22 KV to the utility grid. A dynamic analysis of the grid-connected large-scale solar PV power plant is introduced. This analysis is accomplished in order to determine the impact of three-phase short-circuits at the point of common-coupling (PCC), where the solar PV power station is connected to ensure a practical voltage level by injecting active and re... As the electric vehicle (EV) market continues to grow, wireless charging technologies are constantly evolving. Considering the limitations of traditional charging methods, the adoption of wireless charging technology is an essential strategy, and the distribution of wireless charging systems is expected to accelerate in the global market with initiatives such as international standards for wireless charging systems. With regard to this technological trend, this study experimentally analyzed the effects of the boost coil and the alignment of the transmitting and receiving coils on the transmission efficiency in wireless power transfer systems. The boost coil amplifies the magnetic field using a high-frequency signal and transfers the field to the receiving coil. Moreover, simulations were conducted based on the theory that using the boost coil could increase the efficiency of wireless power transfer, and the impact of the alignment between the transmitting and receiving coils on the tra... Multiple factors and consequences may lead to a stator winding fault in an external rotor permanent magnet synchronous motor that can unleash a complete system shutdown and impair performance and motor reliability. This type of fault causes disturbances in operation if it is not recognized and detected in time, since it might lead to catastrophic consequences. In particular, an external rotor permanent magnet synchronous motor has disadvantages in terms of fault tolerance. Consequently, the distribution of the air-gap flux density will no longer be uniform, producing fault harmonics. However, a crucial step of diagnosis and controlling the system condition is to develop an accurate model of the machine with a lack of turns in the stator winding. This paper presents an analytical model of the stator winding unbalance fault represented by lack of turns. Here, mathematical approaches are used by introducing a stator winding parameter for the analytical modeling of the faulty machine. This... [more]

Keywords: cogging torque, electromagnetic forces, magnetic fields, magnetic flux density, Maxwell tensor, permanent magnet machines
This paper presents an analytical study of the air-gap magnetic field of a Surface Permanent Magnet (SPM) linear machine under no load. By means of the method of images, the complex expression of the magnetic field of a conductor, inside the air gap between two smooth iron surfaces, is retrieved. Then, integrating the conductor expression, the formulation of the magnetic field of a current sheet and thus the one of a SPM, using two vertical current sheets, is obtained. At last, the no-load magnetic field expression, for a generic time instant, of a slotless machine is retrieved. The novelty of the proposed approach is the availability, due to a different calculation approach, of a unique closed-form formulation for the slotless machine air-gap field, a quantity that, in literature, is usually present in Fourier series formulation. Additionally, as a means to calculate integral quantities and show the goodness of the method a complex slotting function is introduced to account for the sl... [more]

This paper provides an H∞ robust control strategy for a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG)-based wind farm to realize subsynchronous resonance suppression (SSR) subject to uncertain system distortions and parameter perturbation. Firstly, an eighth-order state space mathematical model of a PMSG-based wind farm is established, including the grid-side converter (GSC), GSC controller, and phase-locked loop (PLL) model. Secondly, the SSR characteristics of a PMSG-based wind farm are analyzed through eigenvalue analysis. Thirdly, a robust subsynchronous damping controller is designed based on eigenvalue analysis of SSR. Finally, the designed robust subsynchronous damping controller is validated with case studies of wind farms. The results show that the controller can increase the stability of PMSG-based wind farm systems and restrain SSR.

This paper proposes a practical approach to estimate the symmetrical short-circuit current (SCC) levels in overcurrent protection devices (OCPDs) installed on radial feeders for any penetration level of inverter-based distributed energy resources (DERs). The proposed method restores the lost phase protection coordination by estimating SCC values and changing the TMS of OCPDs accordingly. The method is validated by comparing the results with simulations on the IEEE 34-Node Test Feeder using MATLAB/Simulink, which shows an average error of 1.5% and a maximum error of 3.0%. For a 100% penetration level, the SCC variation through OCPDs installed on the main fault trunk (MFT) exceeds ± 10%, leading to compromised phase protection coordination. The SCC flowing reversely through OCPDs on lateral branches and the fault on the MFT could cause improper tripping. Higher SCC levels are estimated and measured for fault impedances equal to zero. The phase protection is restored by changing the TMS o... [more]

This paper presents a detailed analysis and comparative study of three torque control methodologies with fuzzy logic, namely direct torque control (DTC), fuzzy direct torque control (FDTC), and model predictive direct torque control (MPDTC), for PMSM control applied to an electric vehicle. The three control strategies are designed and developed to control torque in order to achieve vehicle requirements, such as minimum torque and flux ripples, fast dynamic response, and maximum efficiency. To enhance the performance and efficiency of the overall drive, a bidirectional DC/DC buck-boost converter is connected to the Li-ion battery. In addition, a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) is used in the outer loop to control the speed of the PMSM. As a result, the tuning difficulty of the conventional proportional-integral (PI) controller is avoided and the dynamic speed response is improved. Simulation results obtained from the three control techniques establish that the proposed system via the MPDTC... [more]

The scarce availability of non-renewable sources and the staggering amount of pollution have inevitably provoked many countries to opt for renewable sources. Thence, invariably, more renewable energy-based applications are hoarded by market stakeholders. Compared to all spheres of renewable energy applications, a considerable part of the energy is pulled into transportation. Wireless power transfer techniques play a significant role in charging infrastructure, considering the current development and advancement in the automotive industry. It will promise to overcome the widely known drawbacks of wired charging in electric vehicles. The effectiveness of wireless charging depends on coil design, compensation techniques, and the airgap between the coils. However, coil misalignment, improper compensation topologies, and magnetic materials reduce the efficacy. We can improve efficacy by overcoming the problems mentioned above and optimizing charging distance, time, and battery size. This pa... [more]

This paper presents a newly developed method to determine the values of current error and phase displacement for the transformation of distorted current harmonics by the inductive current transformers. This approach eliminates the necessity for the utilization of an expensive, high-current supply system for the measuring setup. In this method, the secondary winding is fed by the distorted voltage with RMS values of harmonics calculated in order to reproduce the operation point of the inductive current transformer on the magnetization characteristic of its magnetic core, as in primary winding excitation conditions. This proposed approach is successfully verified with the typically used primary current excitation method, where the secondary currents of the reference and tested current transformers are compared in the differential measuring setup. It was confirmed that the inductive CT with current error and phase displacement for transformation of distorted current harmonics determined i... [more]
