Study on the Hydrodynamic Performance of a Countercurrent Total Spray Tray under Sloshing Conditions

In this paper, a new type of total spray tray (TST) with gas−liquid countercurrent contact is proposed to solve the problem of slight operation flexibility and poor sloshing resistance in towers under offshore conditions. Its hydrodynamic performance indicators, such as pressure drop, weeping, entrainment, and liquid level unevenness, were experimentally studied under rolling motion. A tower with an inner diameter of 400 mm and tray spacing of 350 mm was installed on a sloshing platform to simulate offshore conditions. The experimental results show that the rolling motion affected the hydrodynamic performance of the tray under experimental conditions. When the rolling amplitude did not exceed 4°, the degree of fluctuation of the hydrodynamic performance was small, and the tray could still work stably. Dynamic analysis of a large, full-scale construction requires proper excitation in order to induce vibrations that can be measured and further processed. The amount of delivered energy over the frequency band must be sufficient to excite all the mode shapes in the studied range. The paper concerns the pseudo-impulse pull-and-release method that allows to determine frequency response functions of a large, lightly damped structure and estimate its modal parameters. The main advantage of the developed method is the great independence of the repetitiveness of the experiment’s operational parameters. The water−oil relative permeability behavior of different plugs from the Hassi Messaoud reservoir in south Algeria has been investigated to understand the fundamental processes of two-phase flow taking place within the macro-structure of rock samples. The experiments were conducted on cylindrical reservoir samples (plugs) using the unsteady-state method to measure the oil−water relative permeabilities due to operational simplicity. The impact of factors such as wettability, overburden pressure and rock characteristics based on the relative permeability curves have been carefully assessed. Even though the power stage of the MPMDC belongs to a single-stage structure, it can control power flow direction handily among ports and achieve converter operation in up to five modes. The MPMDC has the feature of galvanic isolation and can obtain a high voltage conversion ratio even under the adoption of only one inductor and one transformer. The leakage energy of the transform can be recycled to improve overall efficiency. The effective use of robotic manipulators is particularly important when carrying out hazardous tasks. Often, for this type of mission, manipulators equipped with a hydraulic drive system are used, and their work results primarily from the implementation of precise movements through their effectors. In heavy manipulators, limiting the uncontrolled movement resulting from high inertia and relatively low stiffness has an impact on the improvement of the control precision. Therefore, the paper presents experimental studies that allow the assessment of the impact of the use of counterbalance valves on the precision and dynamics of a manipulator with a hydrostatic drive system. The tests were carried out for a wide range of effector velocities along a horizontal trajectory, on the basis of which, it was found that it was possible to improve the precision and dynamics of the work of such manipulators due to the precision of the trajectory and pressures in the drive system.

In Poland, there has been a steady increase in the share of wind-generated energy in the overall energy balance of the country. However, wind power plants belong to unstable energy sources—the amount of generated power is variable in time. Variable generation may cause problems with the quality of energy transmitted in electricity networks. Therefore, this article presents the results of field tests of the impact of the Vestas V90 2 MW wind turbine on selected voltage quality parameters occurring in the grid. Due to the multifaceted influence of the power plant on the parameters of the grid to which it is connected, the article focuses only on four selected parameters: voltage value, zero and reverse asymmetry, and the value of the voltage distortion factor. To maximize the benefits of microgrid clusters, a general model and analysis method for studying the optimized operation of AC/DC microgrid clusters using non-cooperative games is proposed. This paper first establishes the optimized objective function of an AC/DC microgrid for economic operations. Based on the supply and demand theory, the dynamic adjustment mechanism of electricity price is introduced into microgrid clusters, and a game model for the optimal operation of multiple microgrids is established. The Nash equilibrium solution of the established model is obtained by iterative search algorithm, and the convergence of the Nash equilibrium solution is also proven. There has been a large amount of experience in recent decades in the use of magnetic fields on reservoir fluids. This paper discusses the effect of a magnetic field on wax precipitation. An analytical model is developed to quantify the wax deposition rate on the tubing surface during the magnetic treatment of reservoir oil. It has been established that the passage of the oil flow through a non-uniform magnetic field causes a high-intensity electric field for a sufficiently long period of time, the effect of which decreases the solubility of wax in oil, increases the intensity of wax precipitation in oil, and reduces the wax deposition on the tubing surface. The model accounts for the fact that the wax deposits present on the tubing surface are a highly efficient heat insulator that changes the temperature regime of the flow and the temperature of the tubing wall. In the present work, to investigate the hydraulic losses and safe operation of nozzle check valves in industrial piping systems, the static characteristics of the valve and its dynamic behavior in the pipeline system were studied using an experimental bench with a visual DN300 nozzle check valve. The main aim of this paper is to analyze the effect of industrial agglomeration on the degree of interorganizational cooperation and the innovative performance of firms of the electricity supply sector in Spain. For this purpose, the agglomeration coefficient in each of the 50 provinces of Spain is calculated, based on secondary data from SABI database. Subsequently, primary data are obtained from a sample of 197 companies through a structured questionnaire. In this case, the PLS-SEM technique is used. The results show that there is a positive and significant relationship between the variables analyzed. It is concluded that industrial agglomeration and cooperation are relevant external factors that boost the innovative performance of firms and that business associations foster interorganizational cooperation.

Water Wall Tubes’ High Temperature Corrosion Root Cause Investigation: A 300 MW Level Boiler Case

High temperature corrosion poses a great threat to boiler water wall safe operation. To investigate the corrosion root cause, a 300 MW level boiler water wall high temperature H2S corrosion case was reported. The typical hydrogen sulfide H2S corrosion feature was large amounts of sulfur which could be found in the cut down sample tube corrosion layer, with a thickness of 482 μm. In addition, huge amounts of lead (Pb) could be found in the corrosion layer, which resulted from the lead sulfide (PbS) deposition when the high temperature flue gas condensed at the water wall tubes. Meanwhile, the sulfur in the corrosion layer was closely related to the H2S concentration in the water wall ambience. Why LNG Can Be a First Step in East Asia’s Energy Transition to a Low Carbon Economy: Evaluation of Challenges Using Game Theory

As countries scramble for cleaner energy production and to meet carbon reduction targets, natural gas seems to become an increasingly attractive option with liquified natural gas (LNG) as a popular transportation choice. In this paper, we first conduct a literature review and discuss the various factors affecting the global natural gas market, its recent history, current state, and future. Then we look at the possibility of East Asia becoming an alternative market to Europe for Russian LNG. We also bring in the US both as a political force that employs economic sanctions and as a potential LNG supplier. As a case study, we define a 3-player game between Russia, The United States, and Japan which results in relative market stability. In the case of sanctions against Russia, we conclude that it will lose its foothold in the Japanese market in the long term. Finally, we discuss the potential of LNG trading as the first step for East Asia’s energy transition to a low-carbon economy.

In this paper, we present the results of dispersion of thermodynamically immiscible polypropylene (PP) and ethylene-propylene triple synthetic rubber (EPTSR) polymer blends using the Solution-Enhanced Dispersion by Supercritical Fluid (SEDS) technique at operation conditions in the pressure range of (8 to 25) MPa and at temperatures t = 40 °C and 60 °C. The kinetics of crystallization and phase transformation in polymer blends obtained by conventional method (melt blending) and by mixing in the SEDS process have been studied using the DSC technique.
