Evaluation of Communication Infrastructures for Distributed Optimization of Virtual Power Plant Schedules

One approach to solving this problem is using multi-agent systems (MAS) to offer autonomous, robust, and flexible control methods. Coordinated Speed Control Strategy for Minimizing Energy Consumption of a Shearer in Fully Mechanized Mining

As one of the major pieces of equipment in fully mechanized coal mining, the drum shearer plays a critical role in improving the efficiency and energy utilization in the coal mining production process. In this paper, an energy consumption model of a shearer, derived from the analysis of the cutting and traction resistances on the shearer during different processes within a working cycle, is established. Based on the derived model, control and coordination strategies between the two speeds are proposed to minimize the shearer’s energy consumption in unidirectional mining. The case study of a real coal mine shows that the proposed models are valid, and the optimal control of shearer speeds can effectively reduce the energy consumption by 5.16% in a working cycle. Underground MV Network Failures’ Waveform Characteristics—An Investigation

Effect of Well Orientation on Oil Recovery from Waterflooding in Shallow Green Reservoirs: A Case Study from Central Africa

Although structural setup and well type considerably influence waterflood recovery, few studies have explored the performance of highly deviated wells during the waterflooding of complex shallow reservoirs. Here, we applied numerical simulations to investigate the performance of vertical, horizontal, multilateral, and highly deviated wells during waterflooding of complex shallow reservoirs using the J1 Oilfield as a case study. Recovery efficiencies of 31%, 33%, 31%, and 26% could be achieved for vertical, horizontal, multilateral, and highly deviated wells, respectively. The gas production rate was 39% higher in the vertical wells than in the other types. Highly deviated wells yielded the highest water-cut (80%) over a short period. Effects of Voltage Interharmonics on Cage Induction Motors

In a power system, the voltage waveform usually contains harmonics and sometimes interharmonics, often defined as components of frequency greater than the fundamental voltage component but not of its integer multiple. Previous studies have reported a minor effect of voltage interharmonics on a cage induction machine. This paper reveals their extraordinary harmfulness for induction motors. Namely, voltage interharmonics may cause high vibration, which can result in machine damage. In addition, interharmonics can lead to torque pulsations corresponding to the natural frequency of the first elastic mode. Consequently, possible torsional resonance may cause destruction of a power train. In this study, the results of investigations on undesirable phenomena due to interharmonics are presented for seven motors with a rated power 3 kW−5.6 MW.

Field Performance of South-Facing and East-West Facing Bifacial Modules in the Arctic

This paper presents the first systematic comparison between south-facing monofacial and bifacial photovoltaic (PV) modules, as well as between south-facing bifacial and vertical east-west facing bifacial PV modules in Alaska. The state’s solar industry, driven by the high price of energy and dropping equipment costs, is quickly growing. The challenges posed by extreme sun angles in Alaska’s northern regions also present opportunities for unique system designs. Annual bifacial gains of 21% were observed between side by side south-facing monofacial and bifacial modules. Vertical east-west bifacial modules had virtually the same annual production as south-facing latitude tilt bifacial modules, but with different energy production profiles.

Elbows of Internal Resistance Rise Curves in Li-Ion Cells

This paper reviews an efficient way of computing MAs and turns it into an adaptive one. It shows that an easily available variable time delay block, from MATLAB, causes steady-state errors in the measurements when the grid frequency varies.
