Evaluation of Changes in Psychophysical Performance during the Afternoon Drop off in Work Capacity after the Exposure to Specific Color of Light

The aim of the study was to define whether changes in psychophysical performance will occur after the exposure to light of a specific color during the early afternoon decrease in work capacity. The evaluation of psychophysical performance was carried out on a group of 50 subjects using the following tools: Grandjean Scale, Attention and Perceptiveness Test (TUS), and GONOGO test. The study was performed for exposure to reference light, white light enriched by blue light (WBL), and white light enriched by red light (WRL). The analysis of psychophysical performance results indicates the positive influence of a specific color of light on different factors of psychophysical performance. Exposure to WRL among participants from the 22−34 subgroup contributed to an increase in the number of correct tests and the speed of work as well as a decrease in the number of mistakes, less boredom, and higher performance. Among the solutions that make it possible to reduce CO2 emissions in the transport sector, particularly in urban traffic conditions, are hybrid vehicles. The share of driving performed in electric mode for hybrid vehicles is highly dependent on motion resistance. There are different methods for determining the motion resistance function during chassis dynamometer testing, leading to different test results. Therefore, the main objective of this study was to determine the effect of the chassis dynamometer load function on the energy demand and CO2 emissions of a full-hybrid passenger car. Emissions tests according to the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) were carried out on a chassis dynamometer for three different methods of determining the car’s resistance to motion. The main goal of this research was to propose a new method of polarimetric SAR data decomposition that will extract additional polarimetric information from the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images compared to other existing decomposition methods. Most of the current decomposition methods are based on scattering, covariance or coherence matrices describing the radar wave-scattering phenomenon represented in a single pixel of an SAR image. A lot of different decomposition methods have been proposed up to now, but the problem is still open since it has no unique solution. This work refers to the criterion values used to assess the state of the active part of the transformer based on the analysis of the effective value of the total vibration acceleration and the frequency spectrum. It was proved in the work that the criteria values should be differentiated for transformers of different rated power. Transformers with lower rated power are characterized by lower RMS values of vibration acceleration than units with higher rated power, which cannot remain without impact on the criteria values. Trend analysis of the total aRMS values may reveal increasing defects before the currently applicable criteria values are exceeded. In this work, the production of I111n radionuclide has been investigated theoretically via heavy-ion fusion reactions of two stable nuclei: C37l+G74e, M26g+R85b, S30i+B81r, and C46a+C65u reactions. Fusion cross-sections, barrier distributions, and potential energies on mutual orientations in the reactions planes of all reactions have been researched in detail around the barrier region via a coupled channel (CC) model using different codes. First of all, the most suitable codes and calculation parameter sets were determined through the C37l+G74e reaction, whose experimental data were available. The compatibility of the calculations via NRV knowledge base, CCFULL, CCDEF codes, and Wong’s formula with experimental data was analyzed. Characteristics of Viscoelastic-Surfactant-Induced Wettability Alteration in Porous Media

Wettability alteration is one of the most important mechanisms of surfactant flooding. In this work, the combined Amott/USBM (United States Bureau of Mines) method was applied to study the average wettability alteration of initially neutral cores after viscoelastic-surfactant (VES) filtration. The effects of static aging, dynamic aging, VES concentration, filtration flow rate, and pore radius on the alteration of a core’s average wettability were studied. The wettability-alteration trends measured by Amott and USBM were consistent, demonstrating that the overall hydrophilicity of the core was enhanced after VES filtration. The wettability alterations of the core brought about by dynamic aging were more significant than by static aging. The viscoelastic properties of the VES played an important role in altering the wettability. High-Voltage Nanosecond Discharge as a Means of Fast Energy Switching

The formation of a nanosecond discharge with the use of a Hamamatsu streak-camera and with simultaneously wideband (10 GHz) measurement of voltage and displacement current caused by a streamer in one pulse has been studied. Nanosecond voltage pulses of various amplitudes (16, 20, and 27 kV) were applied across a point-to-plane gap (8.5 mm) filled with air at various pressures (13, 25, 50, 100, and 200 kPa). It was found that the voltage across the gap drops as soon as a streamer appears in the vicinity of the pointed electrode. At the same time, a pre-breakdown current begins to flow. The magnitude of the pre-breakdown current, as well as the voltage drop, is determined by the rate of formation of dense plasma and, accordingly, by the rate of redistribution of the electric field in the gap. Accessibility of Pores to Methane in New Albany Shale Samples of Varying Maturity Determined Using SANS and USANS

The accessibility of pores to methane has been investigated in Devonian New Albany Shale Formation early-mature (Ro = 0.50%) to post-mature (Ro = 1.40%) samples. A Marcellus Shale Formation sample was included to expand the maturation range to Ro 2.50%. These are organic matter-rich rocks with total organic carbon (TOC) values of 3.4 to 14.4% and porosity values of 2.19 to 6.88%. Contrast matching small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) and ultra-small angle neutron scattering (USANS) techniques were used to generate porosity-related data before and after pressure cycling under hydrostatic (in a vacuum and at 500 bar of deuterated methane) and uniaxial stress (0 to ca. 350 bar) conditions. In the paper, selected problems that are related to the measurements of thermal parameters of power MOSFETs that are placed on a common heat sink are analysed. The application of the indirect electrical method, the contact method, and the optical method in measuring self and mutual transient thermal impedances of these transistors is presented. The circuits that are required to perform measurements are presented and described. The errors of measurements are assessed for each of the considered methods. In the case of the indirect electrical method, an additional influence of the selection of a thermo-sensitive parameter and the function approximating thermometric characteristics on the measurement error are taken into consideration. The measurement results of the thermal parameters of the investigated transistors that were obtained using the considered measurement methods in various supply conditions are presented and discussed.

Modified Horizontal Well Productivity Model for a Tight Gas Reservoir Subjected to Non-Uniform Damage and Turbulence

Tight gas reservoirs are finding greater interest with the advancement of technology and realistic prediction of flow rate and pressure from such wells are critical in project economics. This paper presents a modified productivity equation for tight gas horizontal wells by modifying the mechanical skin factor to account for non-uniform formation damage along with the incorporation of turbulence effect in the near-wellbore region. Hawkin’s formula for calculating skin factor considers the radius of damage as a constant value, which is less accurate in low-permeability tight gas reservoirs. Economic Evaluation of an Ammonia-Fueled Ammonia Carrier Depending on Methods of Ammonia Fuel Storage

This study proposed two concepts for ammonia fuel storage for an ammonia-fueled ammonia carrier and evaluated these concepts in terms of economics. The first concept was to use ammonia in the cargo tank as fuel and the second concept was to install an additional independent fuel tank in the vessel. When more fuel tanks were installed, there was no cargo loss. However, there were extra costs for fuel tanks. The target ship was an 84,000 m3 ammonia carrier (very large gas carrier, VLGC). It traveled from Kuwait to South Korea. The capacity of fuel tanks was 4170 m3, which is the required amount for the round trip. This study conducted an economic evaluation to compare the two proposed concepts. Profits were estimated based on sales and life cycle cost (LCC). Combined Light and Electron Scattering for Exploring Proximity Effects on Hydrogen Absorption in Vanadium

We investigate proximity effects on hydrogen absorption in ultra-thin vanadium layers through combing light transmission and electron scattering. We compare the thermodynamic properties of the vanadium layers, which are based on the superlattice structure of Cr/V (001) and Fe/V (001). We find an influence of the proximity effects on the finite-size scaling of the critical temperatures, which can be explained by a variation of dead layers in the vanadium. In addition to this, the proximity effects on hydrogen absorption are also verified from the changes of excess resistivity.

Performance Evaluation of a Maisotsenko Cycle Cooling Tower with Uneven Length of Dry and Wet Channels in Hot and Humid Conditions

The use of the Maisotsenko cycle (M-Cycle) in traditional wet cooling towers (TWCTs) has the potential to reduce the costs of electricity generation by cooling water below the inlet air’s wet-bulb temperature. TWCTs cannot provide sufficient cooling capacity for the increasing demand for cooling energy in the power and industrial sectors—especially in hot and wet climates. Due to this fact, an experimental system of an M-Cycle cooling tower (MCT) with parallel counter-flow arrangement fills was constructed in order to provide perspective on the optimal length of dry channels (ldry), thermal performance under different conditions, and pressure drops of the MCT. Can Electric Bicycles Enhance Leisure and Tourism Activities and City Happiness?

Experimental Investigation of Rotating Instability in an Axial Compressor with a Steady Swirl Distortion Inlet

In this paper, an experimental study was carried out on the rotating instability in an axial compressor subjected to inlet steady paired swirl distortion. In order to deepen the understanding of the rotating stall mechanism under inlet steady paired swirl distortion, the dynamic-wall static pressure near the rotor tip was monitored to characterize the flow in the rotor tip region at different circumferential stations. In the experiment, the dynamic characteristics of the rotor tip flow field at a stable operating point and during the process from the stable point to complete stall were measured. Tailor-Made Phosphorylated Polyvinyl Alcohol/Tungsten Polyoxometalate Proton Exchange Membrane for a Bio-Electrochemical Energy Storage System

In this work, the synthesis of a phosphorylated polyvinyl alcohol (p-PVA)/polyoxometalate (tungsto-phosphate) membrane for the BioGenerator, a bio-electrochemical energy storage technology, is reported. It was shown that bonding of lacunary tungsto-phosphate ions to the carbon skeleton of a polymer matrix results in an increase in proton conductivity of up to 2.7 times, compared to previously studied phosphorylated PVA membranes. Testing of the membrane in an actual Fe3+/H2 electrochemical cell showed that it performs significantly better (0.28 W·cm−2 at 0.79 A·cm−2) than the previously used commercial Selemion HSF (Japan) membrane (0.18 W·cm−2 at 0.60 A·cm−2).

Finding a fair system of rewarding employees in energy companies and its influence on their motivation to perform their duties is a problem faced by many economic entities.
