Economic, Exergoeconomic and Exergoenvironmental Evaluation of Gas Cycle Power Plant Based on Different Compressor Configurations

The decision-making process behind the selection of a gas turbine engine (GT) is crucial and must be made in accordance with economic, environmental, and technical requirements. This paper presents the relevant economic, exergoeconomic and exergoenvironmental analyses for four GT engines with different compressor configurations. The GT engine configurations are identified according to the type of compressor: axial, axial-centrifugal, two-stage centrifugal, and centrifugal-centrifugal. The performances of the four GT engines were validated against manufacturer supplied data using specialized software. The economic analysis, a detailed life cycle costing considering the cost to be paid per unit net power obtained from the GT, and subsequent shortest payback period showed that the GT with centrifugal-centrifugal compressor was most economically feasible. In this study, Zn(NO3)2·6H2O was selected as the metal source, and ZIF-7-modified magnetic graphene-based matrix materials (MRGO@ZIF-7) were prepared by in situ growth. Upgrades in building energy efficiency codes led to differences between buildings designed according to outdated codes and those with most recent requirements. In this context, our study investigates the influence of external wall thermal transmittance, thermal inertia, and orientation on energy demand (heating, cooling) and occupant thermal comfort. Simulation models of an office building were designed, varying (i) the thermal transmittance values (0.20 and 0.60 W/(m2K)), (ii) the room orientation (four cardinal directions), and (iii) the wall thermal inertia (approximately 60 kJ/(m2K) for low and 340 kJ/(m2K) for high thermal inertia. The energy demand for heating and cooling seasons was calculated for Ljubljana using EnergyPlus 9.0.0 software. In the Fairbanks North Star Borough (FNSB), Alaska, most households utilize heating fuel oil as a primary source for home heating and firewood as a secondary source. In the FNSB, wood-burning devices are the principal source of fine particulate matter with a size of 2.5 microns or less, (PM2.5), but firewood is less expensive when compared to heating fuel oil. This paper presents a life cycle assessment (LCA) analysis of a new, high-concentration photovoltaic (HCPV) technology developed as part of the HIPERION project of hybrid photovoltaics for efficiency record using an integrated optical technology. In the LCA calculations, the production stage of a full module was adopted as a functional unit. SimaPro version 9.00.49, the recent Ecoinvent database (3.8), and the IPCC 2021 GWP 100a environmental model were applied to perform the calculations. The environmental impact of the HCPV panel was determined for constructional data and for recycling of the main elements of the module. The results of the calculations show that recycling of PMMA, rubber, and electronic elements reduced the total carbon footprint by 17%, from 240 to 201 kg CO2-eq. The role of interzonal airflows is especially pronounced in naturally ventilated buildings. In such buildings, reversed airflows in the ventilation stacks might occur as well. Indoor Air CO2 Sensors and Possible Uncertainties of Measurements: A Review and an Example of Practical Measurements

Since the COVID-19 outbreak, special attention has been paid to proper ventilation and building management systems. The indoor air CO2 concentration level is still used as an effective indicator to evaluate indoor air quality. Many different sensors have appeared on the market in the last two years. However, calibration procedures and guidance on proper installation have not been well described by manufacturers. The research method is based on a review of technical parameters. The practical measurements of CO2 concentration were taken using different sensors. For these purposes three different premises were selected. It was found that CO2 measurement failure happened in residential buildings without mechanical ventilation. Meanwhile, in well ventilated buildings all sensors have shown similar results and the difference between sensors located in different zones was minimal.

The injection performance of carbon dioxide (CO2) for oil recovery depends upon its injection capability and the actual injection rate. The CO2−rock−water interaction could cause severe formation damage by plugging the reservoir pores and reducing the permeability of the reservoir. In this study, a simulator was developed to model the reactivity of injected CO2 at various reservoir depths, under different temperature and pressure conditions. Through the estimation of location and magnitude of the chemical reactions, the simulator is able to predict the effects of change in the reservoir porosity, permeability (due to the formation/dissolution) and transport/deposition of dissoluted particles. The paper also presents the effect of asphaltene on the shift of relative permeability curve and the related oil recovery. Influence of DC Electric Field on the Propane-Air Diffusion Flames and NOx Formation

The aim of this research is to investigate the effects of a direct current (DC) electric field on the combustion behavior of a co-flow propane diffusion flame. The flame length and NOx emission were observed and measured. The electric field enhances the combustion process of propane diffusion flame by causing the movement of ions and molecules in the flame, resulting in a change in the shape of the flame. The flame heights decrease with an increase in the applied voltage and polarity, a more dominant effect to be observed with a positive DC electric field. However, for the applied negative polarity, the inner-cone of the propane diffusion flame is shifted by the electric field. Drastic reduction in the NOx emission is observed with an increase in the applied DC voltage and polarity. In the existing system, the reduction percentage of NOx is within the range of 55 to 78%.
