Comparing Exergy Analysis and Physical Optimum Method Regarding an Induction Furnace

In order to achieve energy and climate goals, energy and resource efficiency are considered a key measure. Limit-value-oriented methods such as the exergy analysis and the physical optimum method are used to show the limits of efficiency improvement. In this context, the physical optimum represents the theoretical ideal reference process. Despite their similarities, no comprehensive comparison to the exergy analysis has been carried out yet. Thus, the purpose of this study is to close this gap by examining differences and intersections using the example of an induction furnace. The minimum energy input according to the physical optimum method is 1327 MJ/t whereas the exergy of the melting product is 1393 MJ/t, depending on transit flows taken into account. Experimental and Simulation of Diesel Engine Fueled with Biodiesel with Variations in Heat Loss Model

This study presents an experimental investigation and thermodynamic 0D modeling of the combustion of a compression-ignition engine, fueled by an alternative fuel based on neem biodiesel (B100) as well as conventional diesel (D100). The study highlights the effects of the engine load at 50%, 75% and 100% and the influence of the heat loss models proposed by Woschni, Eichelberg and Hohenberg on the variation in the cylinder pressure. The study shows that the heat loss through the cylinder wall is more pronounced during diffusion combustion regardless of the nature of the fuels tested and the load range required. The cylinder pressures when using B100 estimated at 89 bars are relatively higher than when using D100, about 3.3% greater under the same experimental conditions. The classic solar cell model assumes that the photo-generated current is a constant, independent of the cell’s output voltage. Experimental data of CdTe solar cells, however, show that the photocurrent collection efficiency decreases with the increase of the cell’s output voltage. In this work, we proposed a theoretical model for the CdTe thin-film cell, which assumes that the loss of photocurrent in the CdTe absorber is primarily due to the minority carrier recombination in the neutral region and at the back contact. By solving the neutral region’s diffusion equation, with proper boundary conditions, we have obtained the analytical expressions of the photocurrent collection efficiency and the cell’s J-V performance. In the paper, the electrical and optical parameters of wirelessly controlled LED lamps of the Hue type are analysed. Features of this class of wirelessly controlled LED lamps given by the producer are described and a measuring setup for the electrical and optical parameters of the considered LED lamps is proposed. The results of measurements of the two investigated lamps with variable hue, based on RGB chips or emitted white light of different CCTs (correlated colour temperatures), are shown and discussed. Attention was given to the parameters characterising the influence of the tested LED lamp on such electric power quality indicators as PF (power factor) and THD (total harmonic distortion). Therefore, the influence of voltage supply and the selected value of power density of the emitted light on the THD and PF is analysed and discussed.

The parameter inconsistency of the battery cells and the series-parallel connection mode are closely related to the battery pack capacity. Studying the degree of influence of battery pack capacity by battery cell parameters is of great significance to the series-parallel design of battery packs. This paper establishes battery cell models and battery pack models with different topologies. In the MATLAB/Simulink environment, simulation studies were conducted to study the influence of the battery pack capacity by the monomer parameters as the number of cells in series and parallel in the topology changes. Mineral reactive surface area (RSA) is one of the key factors that control mineral reactions, as it describes how much mineral is accessible and can participate in reactions. This work aims to evaluate the impact of mineral RSA on numerical simulations for CO2 storage at depleted oil fields. The Farnsworth Unit (FWU) in northern Texas was chosen as a case study. A simplified model was used to screen representative cases from 87 RSA combinations to reduce the computational cost. Three selected cases with low, mid, and high RSA values were used for the FWU model. An Industrial Scale, Mechanical Process for Improving Pellet Quality and Biogas Production from Hazelnut and Olive Pruning

The effects of a mechanical process on the solid fuel quality and anaerobic biodegradability of hazelnut and olive pruning were determined. The feedstock was treated using a two-stage dry milling process, followed by fractionation into four different products. The coarser products from the processing of both the raw materials, named C and M, were notable for the high reduction in both the ash and nitrogen content. Therefore, for hazelnut, they met the requirement of the EN ISO 17225-2 standard for both the industrial and residential pellets, whereas C and M from olive processing met the requirements only for the industrial pellet. Nitric Oxide Emission Reduction in Reheating Furnaces through Burner and Furnace Air-Staged Combustions

Despite forecasting models destined to EMSs having been largely investigated, the analysis of criteria for the practical execution of this task, in the framework of an energy management algorithm, has not been properly investigated yet. On such a basis, this paper aims at exploring the effect of daily forecasting frequency on the performance of rolling-horizon EMSs devised to reduce demand uncertainty in microgrids by adhering to a reference planned profile.
