One-Pot Synthesis of Bismuth Sulfide Nanostructures as an Active Electrode Material for Aqueous Hybrid Capacitors

The high theoretical capacity of Bi2S3 shows high promise as a negative electrode material for energy storage devices. Herein, we investigate a facile, one-step chemical precipitation method using common organic solvents, such as acetone, ethanol, and isopropanol, for the synthesis of Bi2S3 nanostructures. The nanospherical Bi2S3 from acetone (Bi2S3-A) presents the most balanced electrochemical properties, exhibiting a high specific capacity of 181 mAh g−1 at 1 A g−1 and decent rate capability. Additionally, Bi2S3-A is used as a negative electrode in an aqueous hybrid system with an activated carbon positive electrode, demonstrating a capacitance of 86 F g−1, a specific energy of 7.6 Wh kg−1, and an initial capacity retention of 74% after 1000 cycles.

Constraints of Parametrically Defined Guide Vanes for a High-Head Francis Turbine

This paper is focused on the guide vane cascade as one of the most crucial stationary sub-systems of the hydraulic turbine, which needs to provide efficient inflow hydraulic conditions to the runner. The guide vanes direct the flow from the spiral casing and the stay vanes towards the runner, regulating the desired discharge. A parametric design tool with normalized geometrical constraints was created in MATLAB, suitable for generating guide vane cascade geometries for Francis turbines. Smart Meter data (provided in Victoria, Australia) measures the electrical energy flowing to and from the grid in each half hour. Missing is the story about what the house is generating and what its energy requirements are through each half hour interval. Development of Cost Correlations for the Economic Assessment of Power Plant Equipment

A comprehensive cost correlation analysis was conducted based on available cost correlations, and new equipment cost correlation models were proposed based on QUE$TOR modeling. Cost correlations for various types of equipment such as pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, air coolers, and pressure vessels were generated on the basis of extracted cost data. The models were derived on the basis of robust multivariable regression with the aim of minimizing the residuals by using the genetic algorithm. The proposed compressor models for both centrifugal and reciprocating types showed that the Turton cost estimation for carbon steel compressor and Matche’s and Mhhe’s data were compatible with the generated model. Short-Term Wind Power Forecasting at the Wind Farm Scale Using Long-Range Doppler LiDAR

It remains unclear to what extent remote sensing instruments can effectively improve the accuracy of short-term wind power forecasts. This work seeks to address this issue by developing and testing two novel forecasting methodologies, based on measurements from a state-of-the-art long-range scanning Doppler LiDAR. Both approaches aim to predict the total power generated at the wind farm scale with a five minute lead time and use successive low-elevation sector scans as input. The first approach is physically based and adapts the solar short-term forecasting approach referred to as “smart-persistence” to wind power forecasting. A variety of methods have been developed to make uniform and dense perovskite thin films, which play a critical role on device performance. Herein, we demonstrate a polymer additive assisted approach with Polyamidoamine (PAMAM) dendrimers to facilitate the growth of uniform, dense, and ultra-smooth perovskite thin films. Furthermore, a lamp annealing approach has been developed to rapidly anneal perovskite films using an incandescent lamp, resulting in comparable or even better device performance compared to the control hotplate annealing. Combustion Characteristics, Kinetics, SO2 and NO Release of Low-Grade Biomass Materials and Briquettes

The influence of the briquetting process on SO2 and NO release characteristics, combustion properties and kinetic characteristics during biomass combustion was investigated. Two biomass (Wheat straw and Tree bulk) and two obtained briquettes were analysed. The briquetting process helps to prevent the release of SO2 and NO. The experimental results show that once the biomass is made into a briquette, when the reaction temperature is 900 ∘C, the sulphur release ratio for TB was reduced from 34.7% to 4.3% and for WS was reduced from 12.4% to 1.6%. When the reaction temperature increases to 1000 ∘C, the sulphur release ratio for TB was reduced from 73.4% to 30.4%, for WS it was reduced from 58.4% to 10.2%. SEM micrographs show that the compact structure of the TB-Briquette and WS-Briquette reduce the rate of SO2 and NO release during combustion. This paper presents a novel single-phase (SP) active-neutral point clamped (ANPC) five-level bidirectional converter (FLBC) for enhancing the power quality (PQ) during the grid-to-vehicle (G2V) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) operation of an electric vehicle (EV) charger connected in series. This study investigated the feasibility of establishing a wind farm at four onshore and three offshore sites in Indonesia. Installing wind turbines with the highest hub height, largest rotor diameter, and lowest cut-in and rated wind speed in an identified area off Wetar Island presented the highest time-based availability and a capacity factor of 46%, as well as the highest power-based availability at 76%. Condensation of Hydrocarbons in Compact Smooth and Microfinned Tubes

A database for flowing condensation of three hydrocarbons, namely propane (R290), isobutane (R600a), and propylene (R1270), is extended by experimental tests in a smooth tube and two microfinned tubes with an increase of heat exchange area of 1.51 and 2.63, respectively. The outer diameter for all of the test tubes was 5 mm. Heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop are compared between the fluids and tubes. Tests were conducted at saturation temperatures of 35 °C and mass fluxes between 200 to 500 kgm−2s−1. Results show that isobutane (R600a) has a higher heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop while propylene (R1270) and propane (R290) present very similar characteristics. Frost deposits on the outdoor heat exchanger of an air source heat pump (ASHP) air conditioner and reduces its capacity during winter operation. However, the prevailing reverse-cycle defrosting (RCD) turns the indoor heat exchanger into an evaporator and ceases heat supply to the living space. Consequently, the thermal comfort for indoor occupants is deteriorated. This article proposes a heater-assisted ASHP to tackle this problem. With an 800 W electromagnetic heater equipped upstream of the outdoor heat exchanger to provide refrigerant with additional heat, the ASHP retarded frost under original throttling control and compressor speed during the heating cycle (frostless mode), and even removed frost with uninterrupted heat supply to indoor space under little throttling and reduced compressor speed (anti-frost mode). Novel Single-Phase Grid-Tied NPC Five-Level Converter with an Inherent DC-Link Voltage Balancing Strategy for Power Quality Improvement

This paper presents a novel single-phase grid-tied neutral-point-clamped (NPC) five-level converter (SPFLC). Unlike the literature on five-level NPC topologies, the proposed one is capable of inherently balancing the voltage of the DC-link split capacitors. For this purpose, a simple Multicarrier Phase Disposition (MPD) Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technique is used, thus avoiding both complex modifications to the Space Vector Modulation (SVM) and offset voltage injections into the carrier based (CB) PWM, as commonly done in most conventional balancing algorithms.
