The use of high voltage power cables in distribution and transmission networks is still increasing. As a result, the research on the electrical performance of cable lines is still up to date. In the paper, an analytical method of determining the power losses and the temperature distribution in the medium voltage cable was proposed. The main feature of the method is direct including the skin and proximity effects. Then the Joule law is used to express the power losses in the conductor and screen, and the Fourier-Kirchhoff equation is applied to find out the temperature distribution in the cable. The research was focused on a cable with isolated screen and return current in the screen taken into account. As natural gas reserves are generally decreasing there is a need to successfully characterize potential research objects using geophysical data. Presented is a study of amplitude vs. offset, attribute and artificial neural network analysis on a research area of a small gas field with one well with commercial accumulations and two wells with only gas shows. The purpose of the research is to aid in future well planning and to distinguish the geophysical data in dry well areas with those from an economically viable well. The amplitude vs. offset analysis shows the lack of anomaly in the wells with only gas shows while the anomaly is present in the economically viable well. The artificial neural network analysis did not aid in the process of distinguishing the possible gas accumulation but it can point out the sedimentological and structural elements within the seismic volume.

Control Strategy Based on Arm-Level Control for Output and Circulating Current of MMC in Stationary Reference Frame

This paper proposed a control method for output and circulating currents of modular multilevel converter (MMC). The output and circulating current are controlled with the help of arm currents, which contain DC, fundamental frequency, and double frequency components. The arm current is transformed into a stationary reference frame (SRF) to isolate the DC and AC components. The AC component is controlled with a conventional proportional resonant (PR) controller, while the DC component is controlled by a proportional controller. Life Cycle Assessment of the Use of Phase Change Material in an Evacuated Solar Tube Collector

This paper presents an environmental impact assessment of the entire cycle of existence of the tube-vacuum solar collector prototype. The innovativeness of the solution involved using a phase change material as a heat-storing material, which was placed inside the collector’s tubes-vacuum. The PCM used in this study was paraffin. The system boundaries contained three phases: production, operation (use phase), and disposal. An ecological life cycle assessment was carried out using the SimaPro software. To compare the environmental impact of heat storage, the amount of heat generated for 15 years, starting from the beginning of a solar installation for preparing domestic hot water for a single-family residential building, was considered the functional unit. Currently, there are few studies on the influence of microscale thermal radiation on the equivalent thermal conductivity of microscale porous metal. Therefore, this paper calculated the equivalent thermal conductivity of high-porosity periodic cubic silver frame structures with cell size from 100 nm to 100 µm by using the microscale radiation method. Then, the media radiation characteristics, absorptivity, reflectivity and transmissivity were discussed to explain the phenomenon of the radiative thermal conductivity changes. Furthermore, combined with spectral radiation properties at the different cross-sections and wavelength, the radiative transmission mechanism inside high-porosity periodic cubic frame silver structures was obtained. After the Great Recession of 2008, there was a strong commitment from several international institutions and forums to improve wellbeing economics, with a switch towards satisfaction and sustainability in people−planet−profit relations. The initiative of the European Union is the Green Deal, which is similar to the UN SGD agenda for Horizon 2030. It is the common political economy plan for the Multiannual Financial Framework, 2021−2027. This project intends, at the same time, to stop climate change and to promote the people’s wellness within healthy organizations and smart cities with access to cheap and clean energy. However, there is a risk for the success of this aim: the Jevons paradox. In this paper, we make a thorough revision of the literature on the Jevons Paradox, which implies that energy efficiency leads to higher levels of consumption of energy and to a bigger hazard of climate change and environmental degradation.

In this paper, direct current (DC) fault current limiting and interrupting operation of hybrid DC circuit breaker (DCCB) using double quench, which consists of DCCB, a series resonance circuit, power electronic switch, surge arrestor, two separated current limiting reactor/resistor, and two superconducting elements, were suggested. The suggested hybrid DCCB can perform the interrupting operation after twice or once DC fault current limiting operation according to DC fault current amplitude. To verify the effective operation of the suggested hybrid DCCB, the modeling for the components of DCCB, the surge arrestor, and the SCE was carried out and its DC operational characteristics were analyzed. Through the analysis of the modeling results for the suggested hybrid DCCB, the advantages of hybrid DCCB were discussed.

Determinants of COVID-19 Impact on the Private Sector: A Multi-Country Analysis Based on Survey Data

Our paper aims to investigate the impact of COVID-19 on private sector companies in terms of sales, production, finance and employment. We check whether the country and industry in which companies operate, government financial support and loan access matter to the behaviour and performances of companies during the pandemic. We use a microdata set from a worldwide survey of more than 15,729 companies conducted between April and September 2020 by the World Bank. Logistic regression is used to assess which factors increase the likelihood of businesses suffering due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our results show that COVID-19 negatively impacts the performance of companies in almost all countries analysed, but a stronger effect is observed among firms from developing countries. The pandemic is more harmful to firms providing services than those representing the manufacturing sector. Quasi-Z-source inverters (qZSI) are a recent, high-potential technology that can be used to integrate PV power systems into AC networks. Tail Dependence between Crude Oil Volatility Index and WTI Oil Price Movements during the COVID-19 Pandemic

This study investigates the dependence between extreme returns of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil prices and the Crude Oil Volatility Index (OVX) changes as well as the predictive power of OVX to generate accurate Value at Risk (VaR) forecasts for crude oil. We focus on the COVID-19 pandemic period as the most violate in the history of the oil market. The static and dynamic conditional copula methodology is used to measure the tail dependence coefficient (TDC) between the variables. We found a strong relationship in the tail dependence between negative returns on crude oil and OVX changes and the tail independence for positive returns. The time-varying copula discloses the strongest tail dependence of negative oil price shocks and the index changes during the COVID-19 health crisis. Operating Limits for Ammonia Fuel Spark-Ignition Engine

The objective of this paper is to provide new data about the possibility of using ammonia as a carbon-free fuel in a spark-ignition engine. A current GDI PSA engine (Compression Ratio 10.5:1) was chosen in order to update the results available in the literature mainly obtained in the CFR engine. Particular attention was paid to determine the lowest possible load limit when the engine is supplied with pure ammonia or a small amount of H2, depending on engine speed, in order to highlight the limitation during cold start conditions. It can be concluded that this engine can run stably in most of these operating conditions with less than 10% H2 (of the total fuel volume) added to NH3.
