A Novel Method for Estimating the Position and Speed of a Winding Segmented Permanent Magnet Linear Motor

This paper presents a novel means of sensorless drive of the winding segmented permanent magnet linear motor (WS-PMLM). In order to solve the problem of the deviation of the position and speed estimation of the mover caused by the sharp changes of the inductance, flux linkage, and back electromotive force (EMF) between the segments of the WS-PMLM, a method for position estimation by the compound back-EMF is proposed to eliminate the blind spot of intersegment position estimation. In terms of speed estimation, a full-order speed observer method based on the dynamics equation is proposed, the configuration of the feedback gain of the observer is analyzed, and a simulation is used to verify that the full-order state observer (FSO) method can effectively reduce the estimated speed fluctuation in the intersegment region and that the speed estimation accuracy is ultimately improved.

Developing a Reactivity-Equivalent Physical Transformation to Simulate an Axially Heterogeneous Boiling Water Reactor

Hitachi is advancing their designs for a conceptual reactor called the resource-renewable boiling water reactor (RBWR), a concept reactor similar to the advanced boiling water reactor with a harder neutron spectrum. This design aims to minimise construction costs and waste production as well as to utilise separated plutonium and minor actinide fuel. However, the axial heterogeneity of the design poses calculation difficulties. The aim of this work is to use a known method, reactivity-equivalent physical transformation (RPT), for calculating fuel with double heterogeneity and apply it to a BWR-type fuel pin. Influence of Combined Electrothermal Aging on Dielectric and Thermal Properties of HVAC XLPE Cable

Food Waste to Energy through Innovative Coupling of CHP and Heat Pump

This paper presents the conceptual design of a technological solution for the efficient conversion of food waste into heat and power. The distribution and composition of food loss and waste at different stages of the food supply chain in Slovenia and their potential for biogas production were determined. It was found that more than 50% of food waste comes from households. Therefore, a small plant was designed to convert food waste into biogas, which was innovatively coupled with a combined heat and power (CHP) unit and a heat pump. This doubles the amount of heat generated compared to conventional cogeneration. Based on the capacity of a micro commercial CHP unit, 3330 households (about 8000 residents) would supply food waste. Hydrogen Production by Catalytic Supercritical Water Gasification of Black Liquor-Based Wastewater

In this work, the wastewater obtained from the hydrothermal liquefaction of black liquor was treated and valorized for hydrogen production by supercritical water gasification (SCWG). The influence of the main process parameters on the conversion yield was studied. The experiments were conducted at three different temperatures (below and above the critical point of water): 350 °C, 450 °C and 600 °C. The results showed that by increasing the temperature from 350 °C to 600 °C, the total gas yield was highly improved (from 1.9 mol gas/kg of dried feedstock to 13.1 mol gas/kg of dried feedstock). The H2 composition was higher than that of CH4 and CO2 at 600 °C, and the HHV of the obtained gas was 61.2 MJ/kg. Behavioral Model of G3-Powerline Communication Modems for EMI Analysis

G3-powerline communication (G3-PLC) is a robust communication protocol originally developed for smart metering in low-voltage power distribution networks. Modeling G3-PLC modems is an essential task to investigate electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) issues related to the coexistence of the PLC signal with the high-frequency noise affecting low-voltage networks, mainly due to the presence of power converters and non-linear loads. Since detailed information on the modem internal architecture is usually not available to the end-user, this work investigates the possibility of developing behavioral (black-box) models of G3-PLC modems, whose parameters can be estimated starting from measurements carried out at the modem output ports.
