Progress in the Production of Biogas from Maize Silage after Acid-Heat Pretreatment

One of the most effective technologies involving the use of lignocellulosic biomass is the production of biofuels, including methane-rich biogas. In order to increase the amount of gas produced, it is necessary to optimize the fermentation process, for example, by substrate pretreatment. The present study aimed to analyze the coupled effects of microwave radiation and the following acids: phosphoric(V) acid (H3PO4), hydrochloric acid (HCl), and sulfuric(VI) acid (H2SO4), on the destruction of a lignocellulosic complex of maize silage biomass and its susceptibility to anaerobic degradation in the methane fermentation process. The accuracy and precision with which carbon amounts have been accounted for in forests have been questioned. As countries seek to comply with agreements to reduce global warming and industries seek to maximize bioenergy potential, this matter has increased international concern. White spruce (Picea glauca (Moench) Voss) stand density management trials in the Petawawa Research Forest, Ontario, Canada, were sampled to evaluate carbon concentration variation within trees and plots of differing stand density. Window design affects the overall performance of a building. It is important to include window design during the initial stages of a project since it influences the performance of daylight and thermal comfort as well as the energy demand for heating and cooling. The Norwegian building code facilitates two alternative methods for achieving a sufficient daylight, and only guidelines for adequate indoor thermal comfort. In this study, a typical Norwegian residential building was modeled to investigate whether the criteria and methods facilitate consistent and good performance through different scenario changes and furthermore, how the national regulations compare to European standards. Unit commitment problem (UCP) is classified as a mixed-integer, large combinatorial, high-dimensional and nonlinear optimization problem. This paper suggests solving the UCP under deterministic and stochastic load demand using a hybrid technique that includes the modified particle swarm optimization (MPSO) along with equilibrium optimizer (EO), termed as MPSO-EO. The proposed approach is tested firstly on 15 benchmark test functions, and then it is implemented to solve the UCP under two test systems. The results are basically compared to that of standard EO and previously applied optimization techniques in solving the UCP. In test system 1, the load demand is deterministic. The well-known circuit for the generation of lightning impulse voltage (LIV) on low-inductance loads was introduced by Glaninger in 1975, and the circuit component selection was proposed by Feser. Epoxy nanocomposites reinforced with glass fiber, have been prepared with various weight percentages (1, 3, and 5 wt.%) of MgO nanofillers to improve their electrical and thermal performance. An increase in MgO nanofiller content up to 3 wt.% tends to enhance surface discharge and corona inception voltages measured using fluorescence and UHF methods, under both AC and DC voltage profiles. Reduced initial surface potential along with increased decay rate is observed after inclusion of MgO nanoparticles. Before and after the polarity reversal phenomena, heterocharge formation is observed in the bulk of test specimens. In comparison with other test samples, the 3 wt.% sample had reflected lower electric field enhancement factor. After MgO filler was added to glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) composites, the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) has reduced, with the 3 wt.% specimen having the lowest CTE value. In pressurised pipeline systems, various water hammer events commonly occur. This phenomenon can cause extensive damage or even lead to a failure of the pumping system. The aim of this work is to experimentally re-examine the possibility of using an additional polymeric pipe, installed at the downstream end of the main pipeline, to control water hammer. The importance of mineral elements, both in animal and plant nutrition, has been well recognized, but, in the case of sedges, the mineral composition is relatively poorly known. Studies usually relate to the content of the elements in sedge communities, or sward or hay communities with sedge participation, and rarely of Carex representatives. The objective of our study was to determine the concentrations of C, N, Ca, P, Mg, Na, K, Si, Cu, Zn, Mn, Fe, Cr and Ni in the biomass of 11 Carex species commonly occurring on natural sites of Central European lowland. Interspecific differentiations have been observed in concentrations of the major and trace elements among studied sedge species. The elemental composition of examined Carex species is diversified but generally similar to the composition of grasses. The manufacturing industry is often caught in the sustainability dilemma between economic growth targets and climate action plans. In this study, a Log-Mean Divisia Index (LMDI) decomposition analysis is applied to investigate how the amount of industrial energy-related CO2 emissions in Latvia has changed in the period from 1995 to 2019. The change in aggregate energy-related CO2 emissions in manufacturing industries is measured by five different factors: the industrial activity effect, structural change effect, energy intensity effect, fuel mix effect, and emission intensity effect. Problems such as global warming and rising oil prices are driving the implementation of ideas to reduce liquid fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. One of them is the use of natural gas as an energy source. It is a hydrocarbon fuel with properties that allow the reduction of CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) emissions during combustion. Solutions are being implemented that allow for the use of natural gas to means of transport, namely in trucks of various categories and intended use. However, injecting pressurised fluids into the deep underground can induce earthquakes, hence converting CO2-related risk into seismic risk. Digital transformation is a concept based on the use of digitalization and digitization. Fixed and adaptive supervised dictionary learning (SDL) is proposed in this paper for wide-area stability assessment. Single and hybrid fixed structures are developed based on impulse dictionary (ID), discrete Haar transform (DHT), discrete cosine transform (DCT), discrete sine transform (DST), and discrete wavelet transform (DWT) for sparse features extraction and online transient stability prediction. The fixed structures performance is compared with that obtained from transient K-singular value decomposition (TK-SVD) implemented while adding a stability status term to the optimization problem. Stable and unstable dictionary learning are designed based on datasets recorded by simulating thousands of contingencies with varying faults, load, and generator switching on the IEEE 68-bus test system.
