Modified Dragonfly Optimisation for Distributed Energy Mix in Distribution Networks

This article presents a two-stage optimization model aiming to determine optimal energy mix in distribution networks, i.e., battery energy storage, fuel cell, and wind turbines. It aims to alleviate the impact of high renewable penetration on the systems. To solve the proposed complex optimization model, a standard variant of the dragonfly algorithm (DA) has been improved and then applied to find the optimal mix of distributed energy resources. The suggested improvements are validated before their application. A heuristic approach has also been introduced to solve the second stage problem that determines the optimal power dispatch of battery energy storage as per the size suggested by the first stage. Pro-Environmental Behaviour in the European Union Countries

The purpose of the presented research is to assess pro-environmental behaviour (PEB) in European Union countries in 2009 and 2019. The study used a synthetic measure developed using the TOPSIS (Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to an Ideal Solution) benchmark method. This method enables distinguishing classes and ranks of countries depending on the adopted characteristics. Basic measures of descriptive statistics, i.e., average, standard deviation and the coefficient of variation, were used in the analysis of the data set. The main research question addressed in this study concerns the relationship between the level of PEB and economic, demographic, and educational factors—not only on a micro scale but also from the macroeconomic perspective. The uniformity of secondary air (SA) in large-scale CFB boilers has an important influence on gas-solid flow and combustion, but was seldom considered in previous studies. Numerical simulation based on the Eulerian−Eulerian and RNG k-ε turbulence models was conducted to explore the influence of SA uniformity and load variation on jet penetration, diffusion characteristics and gas-solid mixing in the first 600 MW supercritical CFB boiler. Influence of Arc Size on the Ignition and Flame Propagation of Cable Fire

Cable fire caused by arc faults is one of the essential factors threatening the safe operation of a power system. The ignition and flame propagation of cable fire dependent on the characteristics of the arc discharge is lackingin in-depth understanding at present. In this work, with the constant electric power deposited into the arc discharge, the effects of arc size on the ignition and flame propagation of 110 kV XLPE cable fire are investigated for the first time. The arc size is changed by varying the gap distance of electrodes from 1.5 cm to 2.5 cm. It is interesting to find that the larger the arc size is, the faster the cable fire is ignited and propagates, and the larger the damaged area of the sheath of the cable is. Evaluation of Electrical Performance and Life Estimation of PPs for HVDC Power Cable

Demand and need for the application of high voltage direct current (HVDC) are increasing because of high capacity and long-distance transmission. Research on polypropylene (PP) that can increase the operation temperature compared to existing insulation is constantly being considered. This study aimed to evaluate the electrical performance and estimate the life of HVDC application of PP. In this study, a DC V-t characteristic tests were conducted on three types of PP sheets at a temperature of 110 °C. In addition, a life estimation formula based on the electrical stress was derived and the electrical performances were evaluated. The experimental results show that the life exponent of material mixed with block copolymer, homo polymer and high density polyethylene (HDPE) was 23 and the electrical performance was 17% better than block copolymer, thereby demonstrating the reliability and electrical performance for application of HVDC.

The presented device allows visual inspection and searches for faulty high-voltage equipment and a remote non-contact method of recording high-intensity electric fields of industrial frequency and their spatial distribution based on the electro-optical effect. Methods of Determining Pressure Drop in Internal Channels of a Hydraulic Motor

In this paper, new methods for determining the pressure drop in internal channels of a hydraulic motor are proposed and described. Mathematical models of pressure losses in internal channels have also been described. Experimental tests of the satellite motor were carried out according to one of the proposed methods. The tests were carried out for two liquids, i.e., water and mineral oil. Experimental studies have shown that at a high flow rate in the motor supplied with water the pressure losses are a dozen or so percent greater than in the motor supplied with oil. However, at low flow rates is the inverse, that is, the pressure losses in the motor supplied with water are about ten percent lower than in the motor supplied with oil. Water-lubricated flow technology is an environmentally friendly and economically beneficial means of transporting unconventional viscous crudes.
