Compatibility Study of Silicone Rubber and Mineral Oil

In this study, three types of silicone rubbers, namely, insulative silicone rubber, conductive silicone rubber and silicone rubber with conductive as well as insulative layers are investigated for their compatibility with mineral oil. Mineral oil with different silicone rubber samples is thermally aged at 130 °C for 360 h, 720 h and 1080 h and at 23 °C, 98 °C and 130 °C for 360 h. At the end of each ageing interval, mineral oil and oil-impregnated silicone rubbers are investigated for their dielectric properties. Aged mineral oil samples are investigated for their moisture content, breakdown voltage, colour number, dissolved gases and total acid number, whereas solid insulation samples are investigated for their moisture content. Additionally, pressboard samples in mineral oil and mineral oil without any solid insulation materials are also aged under the same conditions and are investigated for their dielectric properties. Carbon-Negative Scenarios in High CO2 Gas Condensate Reservoirs

A gas condensate reservoir in Northern Croatia was used as an example of a CO2 injection site during natural gas production to test whether the entire process is carbon-negative. To confirm this hypothesis, all three elements of the CO2 life cycle were included: (1) CO2 emitted by combustion of the produced gas from the start of production from the respective field, (2) CO2 that is separated at natural gas processing plant, i.e., the CO2 that was present in the original reservoir gas composition, and (3) the injected CO2 volumes. The selected reservoir is typical of gas-condensate reservoirs in Northern Croatia (and more generally in Drava Basin), as it contains about 50% CO2 (mole). Diagnostics of power and energy systems is obviously an important matter. In this paper we present a contribution of using new methodology for the purpose of signal type recognition (for example, faulty/healthy or different types of faults). Our approach uses Bayesian functional data analysis with data depths distributions to detect differing signals. We present our approach for discrimination of pole-to-pole and pole-to-ground short circuits in VSC DC cables. We provide a detailed case study with Monte Carlo analysis. Our results show potential for applications in diagnostics under uncertainty.

The need to increase the use of renewable biomasses for energy supply, such as fuel pellets is significant. However, different types of biomasses have different mechanical properties to be pelletized, which entails a limitation in available raw materials for pellet producers. Within this study eleven different pure substances from biomasses were separately mixed with European beech and Scots pine, to identify its impact on the densification process. Beech and pine pellets were used as control materials against their corresponding pellets mixed with substances representing: cellulose, hemicelluloses, other polysaccharides, lignin, protein, and extractives. The mechanical properties were investigated as well as FT-IR and SEM analyses on the pellets. In this paper, the inter-area low-frequency oscillations are restrained in the interconnected power system by making use of the delay-dependent wide-area dynamic output feedback controller (DOFC). Modal analysis is adopted to obtain the modes of inter-area oscillation to be controlled and the Schur truncation model reduction technique is represented to reduce the order of the power system. The augmented closed-loop system model, where the transmission delay and packet loss of wide-area signals are considered, is established. Microwave Assisted Alkaline Pretreatment of Algae Waste in the Production of Cellulosic Bioethanol

Biomass pretreatment has an important role in the production of cellulosic bioethanol. In this study, the effectiveness of microwave assisted alkaline pretreatment of algae waste was analysed. After pretreatment, the product was hydrolysed using sulphuric acid. The effects of microwave power, irradiating time, solid−liquid ratio and NaOH concentration were examined. Under the best conditions, the fermentable sugars were converted to cellulosic bioethanol using Saccharomyces Cerevisiae with a bioethanol yield of 1.93 ± 0.01 g/g and a fermentation efficiency of 40.4%. The reducing sugars concentration was 30% higher than that obtained from conventional hydrolysis without pretreatment. The production of fuel hydrocarbons from CO2-neutral raw materials is a promising task at present. The thermal dissolution of biochar obtained by the method of hydrothermal carbonization of sawdust was studied. The dissolution of biochar in tetralin (hydrogen donor solvent) was studied at different temperatures (350−450 °C) and with two types of dilution of the mixture with tetralin: 1/3 and 1/4. The process proceeded without a catalyst. It was found that the samples subjected to thermal dissolution at temperatures of 425−450 °C had the highest conversion and yield of liquid products. The reaction temperature also had a significant effect on the composition of liquid products. It was found that an increase in the reaction temperature led to a significant increase in benzenes, both in the direct and in the hexane fraction. There is a debate if electricity markets on the basis of energy-only markets ensure a sufficient generation capacity. Various capacity mechanisms are discussed to tackle this potential problem. Capacity auctions with reliability options are seen as one market-based solution. Assuming a perfect energy-only market, this mechanism leads to an equilibrium with an optimal capacity mix. This optimum is missed if there are distorted price signals at the electricity market. This is a serious problem since, despite substantial cost reductions, renewable-based electricity generation still depends on subsidies, which are not internalized at electricity markets. We develop a capacity market that internalizes subsidies for RES without direct intervention in the electricity market. Performances of the two cycles are analyzed and compared through the development of thermodynamic models. In this paper, the D-decomposition technique is investigated as an intuitive method for finding the non-linear trajectories of PI-compensator gains. The trajectories reflect the desired dynamic properties at a system level specified by the gain and the phase margin (GMPM) in the frequency domain. The article presents an analysis of the influence of selected operating environment parameters on the operation of a technological system in a mine and examines the profitability of exploiting a deposit of low quality. A model based on a cyclical transportation system in a surface limestone mine, developed in the Haulsim software, served to evaluate—from an economic perspective—several material transportation scenarios depending on the quality of the deposit. Co-Digestion of Kitchen Waste with Grass and Leaves after Hyperthermophilic Pretreatment for Methane and Hydrogen Production

The study investigated co-digestion batch experiments using kitchen waste (KW) and garden waste (GW) collected from individual households. Grass and leaves were first subjected to a 3-day hyperthermophilic pretreatment at 70 °C and 80 °C and then co-digested with kitchen waste at 35 °C and 55 °C. The hyperthermophilic pretreatment resulted in the solubilization of organic material with the release of fatty acids, whereas the biogas yield was negligible. In the second stage, the greatest methane yield of 387 NmL/gVS was achieved for the mono-digestion of leaves, whereas the co-digestion of grass with 50% KW gave the highest hydrogen production of 88 NmL/gVS. Considering the overall process performance, the best operating conditions were established using a 3-day hyperthermophilic pretreatment at 70 °C, followed by co-digestion at 55 °C in the second stage for the mixture of 25% garden waste with 75% KW.

The engine performance has been improved by modifying the combustion chamber shape of the diesel engine for dual-fuel operation with liquid fuel and producer gas (PG). The combined effect of gaseous fuel from redgram stalk and combustion chamber type on the emission and performance of blended-fuel of diesel and HOME biodiesel−PG has been investigated. In this experimental study, four varieties of combustion chambers hemispherical (HCC), low swirl (LSCC), dual swirl (DSCC), and toroidal re-entrant (TRCC) were analyzed comprehensively. The results presented that the TRCC configuration with a given nozzle geometry has 9% improved brake thermal efficiency (BTE) and 10.4% lower exhaust gas temperature (EGT). There are many important trade-offs and constraints on cost, volume, weight, conduction losses, switching losses, microcontrollers, isolation, voltage and current levels, voltage and current ripples, battery specifications, charging−discharging algorithms, control system, switch gate drivers, and efficiency of battery chargers in electric vehicles. In this paper, a well-known power electronic topology commonly used in recent relevant studies is considered, and some important technical considerations with regard to the mentioned trade-offs and constraints are discussed in detail for the first time. The discussion concerns the practical and theoretical experiences in implementation of battery chargers and charging stations of electric vehicles exclusively, and it can be extended to various other power electronic topologies.

Traditional direct field-oriented control (DFOC) techniques with integral-proportional (PI) controllers have undesirable effects on the power quality and performance of variable speed contra-rotating wind power (CRWP) plants based on asynchronous generators (ASGs). The growing interest in using low-cost methods that use natural sources makes the study of adsorption processes increasingly frequent and common. Thus, the use of uçá crab shell (Ucides cordatus) in the adsorption of reactive dye (reactive blue 222) was studied in two systems (S1 and S2) in a finite bath, with a scale-up of 12 times and considering different forms of agitation. The biosorbent material was previously characterized from FTIR and EDX spectroscopies, SEM, physical adsorption of N2, and point of zero charge. Groundwater quality monitoring in the vicinity of drilling sites is crucial for the protection of water resources. Selected physicochemical parameters of waters were marked in the study. The water was collected from 19 wells located close to a shale gas extraction site. The water quality index was determined from the obtained parameters. A secondary objective of the study was to test the capacity of the artificial neural network (ANN) methods to model the water quality index in groundwater. The number of ANN input parameters was optimized and limited to seven, which was derived using a multiple regression model. Subsequently, using the stepwise regression method, models with ever fewer variables were tested. The best parameters were obtained for a network with five input neurons (electrical conductivity, pH as well as calcium, magnesium and sodium ions), in addition to five neurons in the hidden layer. Load forecasting is an essential task in the operation management of a power system. Electric power companies utilize short-term load forecasting (STLF) technology to make reasonable power generation plans. A forecasting model with low prediction errors helps reduce operating costs and risks for the operators. In recent years, machine learning has become one of the most popular technologies for load forecasting. In this paper, a two-stage STLF model based on long short-term memory (LSTM) and multilayer perceptron (MLP), which improves the forecasting accuracy over the entire time horizon, is proposed. In the first stage, a sequence-to-sequence (seq2seq) architecture, which can handle a multi-sequence of input to extract more features of historical data than that of single sequence, is used to make multistep predictions. Electrically excited synchronous motor (EESM) has the characteristics of high order, nonlinear and strong coupling, so it is difficult to be controlled. However, it has the advantages of adjustable power factor, high efficiency, and high precision torque control, so it is widely used in high-power applications. The accuracy of a flux observer influences the speed control system of EESM. Based on state observer in modern control theory and electrical excitation synchronous machine state equation, a reduced-order flux observer is designed. Using the first-order difference method and forward bilinear transformation method, the reduced-order flux observer is discrete, and the stability of the motor system is analyzed.
