The paper describes the sensitivity analysis of a wireless power transfer link involving an implanted antenna within the surrounding biological environment. The approach combines a 3D electromagnetic modeling and a surrogate model (based polynomial chaos expansion). It allows researchers to identify at low cost the main parameters affecting the efficiency of the transmission link.

Many oil fields are full of wind energy. At present, wind power generation technology has catered to oil fields. A larger wind turbine is used to supply power to several pumping units. As a result of the structural characteristics of the pumping unit, the efficiency of the electromotor is very low, which leads to a reduction in the utilization rate of wind energy. At the same time, considering the high cost of large wind turbines, the energy saving effect is not obvious in practical applications. A New Framework to Quantify the Wetting Behaviour of Carbonate Rock Surfaces Based on the Relationship between Zeta Potential and Contact Angle

This study introduces a new framework to quantify the wettability of powdered carbonate rock from existing correlations between zeta potential and contact angle. The new framework has the potential to be faster and cheaper than conventional approaches and could increase confidence in surface wetting quantification, since the results are insensitive to the inherent heterogeneity of rock surfaces. The obtained results from experiments were used to develop a set of equations for determining the carbonate rock contact angle from streaming potential data. The equations were validated for the evaluation of changes in the wettability of carbonate rock using different stearic acid oily solutions. The contact angles calculated from the proposed equations were then compared with measured values on the calcite surface. The results show that the proposed framework was able to quantify the wettability of carbonate rock with an acceptable range of error of about 4%−14%.

The article suggests and supports a simulation-based methodology for determining whether the dynamic strength of tire inflation restraining devices for tire inflation meet quality requirements and ensure operator safety during a potential tire explosion. Dynamic strength tests using an NM-600 safety shield and NK-0728 safety cage during a 29.5 R25X tire explosion at a pressure of 10 bar were presented as an example application of this methodology. It was found that the limit heat flux may result in heat transfer deterioration (HTD) of organic fluid and the corresponding values are much smaller than water or CO2. Detailed insight into electrochemical reaction mechanisms and rate limiting steps is crucial for targeted optimization of solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) electrodes, especially for new materials and processing techniques, such as Ni/Gd-doped ceria (GDC) cermet anodes in metal-supported cells. Here, we present a comprehensive model that describes the impedance of porous cermet electrodes according to a transmission line circuit. Solar heat, already captured by vast asphalt fields in urban areas, is potentially a huge energy resource. The vertical soil temperature profile, i.e., low enthalpy geothermal energy, reveals how efficiently the irradiation is absorbed or radiated back to the atmosphere. Measured solar irradiation, heat flux on the asphalt surface and temperature distribution over a range of depths describe the thermal energy from an asphalt surface down to 10 m depth. Nowadays, actuator line method (ALM) has become the most potential method in wind turbine simulations, especially in wind farm simulations and fluid-structure interaction simulations. The regularization kernel, which was originally introduced to ALM to avoid numerical singularity, has been found to have great influence on rotor torque predictions and wake simulations. This study focuses on the effect of each parameter used in the standard kernel and the anisotropic kernel. Numerical Study of Heated Tube Arrays in the Laminar Free Convection Heat Transfer

Laminar free convection heat transfer from a heated cylinder and tube arrays is studied numerically to obtain the local and average Nusselt numbers. To verify the numerical simulations, the Nusselt numbers for a single cylinder were compared to other authors for the Rayleigh numbers of 103 and 104. This paper introduces a gallium nitride (GaN) high electron mobility transistor (HEMT)-based matrix converter for motor friendly drive systems. A fast switching characteristic of the GaN devices causes high dv/dt. This increases the importance of noise immunity and the reduction of parasitic components in system design. In addition, the high dv/dt in motor drive systems leads to voltage spike at a motor input terminal and leakage current through a motor chassis. Accordingly, a gate drive circuit consists of devices with a high common mode transient immunity. A printed circuit board was designed to minimize parasitic inductance, which was analyzed by performing simulations. To mitigate the dv/dt of the voltage applied to the motor and the leakage current, a dv/dt filter and a sine-wave filter were utilized as an output filter of the matrix converter. The effectiveness of each filter was verified by driving an induction motor.

The paper focuses on finding short circuit duration for computing the dynamic effects in Extra High Voltage (EHV) distribution substations with flexible conductors with the use of probabilistic method. To find fault duration for selected substation points, a risk criterion was involved, namely the expected annual frequency of exceeding the calculated values of dynamic forces. A dedicated simulation model based on the Monte Carlo method was used to analyze the dynamic effects of short circuit current flow in the substation during faults within it and in its vicinity. The short circuit duration model is the key part of the simulation model. Due to the discussion of how the selected factors affect the estimated short circuit duration, indications helpful to find the values of the latter were formulated and some examples for the 220 kV distribution substation were given.
