A Review of the Impact of Zinc Oxide Nanostructure Morphology on Perovskite Solar Cell Performance
February 21, 2023 (v1)
Subject: Process Control
Keywords: efficiency, perovskite, photovoltaic devices, ZnO morphologies
Zinc oxide (ZnO) has been widely studied over the last decade for its remarkable properties in optoelectronic and photovoltaic devices because of its high electron mobility and excitonic properties. It has probably the broadest range of nanostructured forms that are also easy and cheap to synthesize using a wide variety of methods. The volume of recent work on ZnO nanostructures and their devices can potentially overshadow significant developments in the field. Therefore, there is a need for a concise description of the most recent advances in the field. In this review, we focus on the effect of ZnO nanostructure morphologies on the performance of ZnO-based solar cells sensitized using methylammonium lead iodide perovskite. We present an exhaustive discussion of the synthesis routes for different morphologies of the ZnO nanostructure, ways of controlling the morphology, and the impact of morphology on the photoconversion efficiency of a given perovskite solar cell (PSC). We find that a... [more]

Combined Biocidal Effect of Gaseous Ozone and Citric Acid on Acinetobacter baumannii Biofilm Formed on Ceramic Tiles and Polystyrene as a Novel Approach for Infection Prevention and Control
February 21, 2023 (v1)
Subject: Process Control
Keywords: Acinetobacter baumannii, biofilm, citric acid, combined disinfection, infection control, infection prevention, ozone
is a prominent emerging pathogen responsible for a variety of hospital-acquired infections. It can contaminate inanimate surfaces and survive in harsh environmental conditions for prolonged periods of time in the form of biofilm. Biofilm is difficult to remove with only one method of disinfection, so combined disinfection methods and biocidal active substances are needed for biofilm eradication. Additionally, having in mind ecological demands, legislators are more prone using fewer toxic substances for disinfection that produce less solid waste and hazardous disinfection byproducts. Gaseous ozone and citric acid are natural biocidal compounds, and the purpose of this study was to determine their combined biocidal effects on A. baumannii biofilm formed on ceramics and polystyrene. Twenty-four-hour A. baumannii biofilm formed on ceramic tiles and polystyrene was exposed to different combinations of disinfection protocols with 25 ppm of gaseous ozone for 1 h exposure time and 15% citric a... The Roadway Layout and Control Technology of Pillar-Free Mining of Soft Coal Seams in High Gassy Mines
February 21, 2023 (v1)
Subject: Process Control
Keywords: fractured zone, gob-side entry-retaining technology, high gassy mine, high-pumping roadway, pillar-free mining, surrounding rock control
High gassy mines have low recovery rates of coal resources in the stoping of high-seam coal resources in addition to difficulties in the gas control of the working face and gas accumulation in the goaf and upper corner. Pillar-free gob-side entry-retaining technology was combined with the high-pumping roadway for gas control in the goaf based on the W1319 working face in the Gaohe Coal Mine. Theoretical analysis and numerical simulation were used to derive the width of the reserved coal pillar in the high-gas pillar-free working face and the horizon of the high-pumping roadway. The location of the high-pumping roadway was determined in combination with the on-site investigation. Numerical simulations were used to compare the plastic failures and deformations of surrounding rocks in the cases of non-roof-cutting, roof cutting, and reinforced roof cutting. It could solve large and uncontrolled surrounding rock deformations of the gob-side entry-retaining technology and return airway in t... [more]

Fault Diagnosis of Rotating Equipment Bearing Based on EEMD and Improved Sparse Representation Algorithm
February 21, 2023 (v1)
Subject: Process Control
Keywords: EEMD, feature extraction, improved sparse representation algorithm, the fault feature
Aiming at the problem that the vibration signals of rolling bearings working in a harsh environment are mixed with many harmonic components and noise signals, while the traditional sparse representation algorithm takes a long time to calculate and has a limited accuracy, a bearing fault feature extraction method based on the ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) algorithm and improved sparse representation is proposed. Firstly, an improved orthogonal matching pursuit (adapOMP) algorithm is used to separate the harmonic components in the signal to obtain the filtered signal. The processed signal is decomposed by EEMD, and the signal with a kurtosis greater than three is reconstructed. Then, Hankel matrix transformation is carried out to construct the learning dictionary. The K-singular value decomposition (K-SVD) algorithm using the improved termination criterion makes the algorithm have a certain adaptability, and the reconstructed signal is constructed by processing the EEMD re... KPLS-Based Mach Number Prediction for Multi-Mode Wind Tunnel Flow System
February 21, 2023 (v1)
Subject: Process Control
Keywords: KPLS, multi-mode, nonlinear, PLS, wind tunnel
In wind tunnels, the Mach number needs to be precisely monitored and controlled. It is difficult to obtain the Mach number directly online, especially when the wind tunnel system is operating in multiple modes. To deal with this problem, a Mach number prediction algorithm based on the kernel partial least squares method is proposed for multi-mode wind tunnel systems. First, in order to reflect real-time changes, the time-slice partial least squares regression method is adopted. Then, in order to enable the model to represent information about the whole working mode divided by key process variables, the mean-value partial least squares model is established and is compared with the time-slice model. Then, considering that wind tunnel systems exhibit strong nonlinear characteristics, the kernel partial least squares method, which is suitable for nonlinear systems, is used to predict the Mach number. The results show that the mean-value model is better than the time-slice model, the models... [more]

Online Pyrometry Calibration for Industrial Combustion Process Monitoring
February 21, 2023 (v1)
Subject: Process Control
Keywords: combustion monitoring and control, pyrometer calibration, temperature measurement
Temperature and its distribution are crucial for combustion monitoring and control. For this application, digital camera-based pyrometers become increasingly popular, due to its relatively low cost. However, these pyrometers are not universally applicable due to the dependence of calibration. Compared with pyrometers, monitoring cameras exist in all most every combustion chamber. Although these cameras, theologically, have the ability to measure temperature, due to lack of calibration they are only used for visualization to support the decisions of operators. Almost all existing calibration methods are laboratory-based, and hence cannot calibrate a camera in operation. This paper proposes an online calibration method. It uses a pre-calibrated camera as a standard pyrometer to calibrate another camera in operation. The calibration is based on a photo taken by the pyrometry-camera at a position close to the camera in operation. Since the calibration does not affect the use of the camera... [more]

Fast Finite-Time Stability and Its Application in Adaptive Control of High-Order Stochastic Nonlinear Systems
February 21, 2023 (v1)
Subject: Process Control
Keywords: adaptive control, fast finite-time stability, high-order stochastic nonlinear systems, state feedback
In this article, a new design method for an adaptive fast finite-time controller (FTC) is proposed for the finite-time stability (FTS) issue of a class of high-order stochastic nonlinear systems (HOSNSs) with unknown parameters. Using a power integrator technology and Lyapunov function approach, an adaptive state feedback controller is derived to ensure fast FTS of HOSNSs. The developed adaptive fast FTC is equipped with less settling time to obtain better steady-state accuracy compared with the traditional FTC. The effectiveness of the proposed adaptive control scheme is demonstrated by a numerical example.

Subject: Process Control
Keywords: adaptive backstep sliding mode, dead-zone inverse compensation, electro–hydraulic servo pump control, position control
A control strategy combining adaptive backstep sliding mode control and dead-zone inverse compensation control in a series was proposed to solve the problem of system parameter uncertainty and system dead-zone in the process of position control in an electro−hydraulic servo closed pump control system. Firstly, an adaptive backstepping sliding mode controller was designed by introducing the sliding mode control principle. Secondly, the smooth dead-zone inverse function was constructed by using the smooth continuous index function to design the dead-zone inverse compensation controller, which is combined with the adaptive sliding mode controller to form a series controller. Finally, the feasibility of the controller was verified by using the pump control servo system of a lithium battery pole strip mill. Subject: Process Control
Keywords: Fault Detection, ℋ− index, Markovian jump, mean field, stochastic systems
In this brief, we consider the mean-field type H− index problem for stochastic Markovian jump systems. A sufficient condition is derived for stochastic Markovian jump systems with (x,u)-dependent noise based on generalized differential Riccati equations. Especially for stochastic Markovian jump systems with only x-dependent noise, a sufficient and necessary condition is developed to characterize H− index larger than some ξ>0. Finally, a numerical example is addressed to verify the effectiveness of our obtained results.

is an emerging multidrug-resistant yeast with high mortality rate, especially in patients with underlying co-morbidities. It has been known to contaminate the environment and colonize human skin for prolonged periods in healthcare settings leading to difficult-to-control outbreaks. However, there is limited literature on the efficacy of different disinfectants/antiseptics, which can effectively decontaminate the environment and decolonize patients to prevent the spread of C. auris. This review highlights recommendations available in the literature for detection and control of C. auris in healthcare settings. Detection of C. auris by biochemical and automated methods has often been misleading. Availability of C. auris-specific PCR can prove to be a more reliable technique for detection of C. auris. February 21, 2023 (v1)
Subject: Process Control
Keywords: flexible joint, labor-saving lever, paranoid mechanism, rotary steerable method, trajectory control ability
The reverse push-the-bit rotary steerable method based on the principle of a “labor-saving lever” provides a feasible technical solution for further improving trajectory control ability of the rotary steerable drilling system, further prolonging the system’s service life and further increasing the system’s drilling speed. In order to reveal the working characteristics of such a method deeply, the influence of the key structural parameters of the rotary steerable drilling system on its trajectory control ability is studied based on the finite element method. The results show that, with the certain distance from the bit to the centralizer, the structural parameters of the flexible joint, the distance from the flexible joint to the paranoid mechanism, and the distance from the paranoid mechanism to the centralizer are the main factors to affect trajectory control ability. Subject: Process Control
Keywords: emulsified propellant, fireworks, TG-FTIR, thermal hazard
High-energy substances like effect propellant and propellant are used in fireworks. In the process of manufacture, transportation, and use, heat can easily get out of control. The emulsifier polyisobutene succinimide (T152) is frequently used to emulsify explosives. Given the thermal safety of the propellant in fireworks, this paper used the emulsifier T152 to emulsify the propellant. Thermogravimetric Fourier-transform infrared spectrometry and differential scanning calorimetry were used to analyze and test the propellant. In addition, several methods of thermokinetic calculation were used to calculate thermal stability. The thermal stability of the propellant before and after adding T152 was compared and analyzed. The test results indicate that the apparent activation energy of the propellant increases with the addition of T152. The emulsifier improved the thermal stability of the propellant. Transient Synchronizing Stability of Droop-Controlled Converter during Grid Fault Considering Current Saturation Limitation
February 21, 2023 (v1)
Subject: Process Control
Keywords: current limitation, droop control, line impedance, power angle characteristics, synchronizing stability
Traditional power systems usually rely on synchronous generators to provide inertia and maintain grid stability. However, with the continuous development of new energy power generation technologies, more and more converter power supplies provide voltage and frequency support for the power grid. The synchronizing instability issue of a converter-dominated power system becomes increasingly relevant, which exists in both grid-following (GFL) and grid-forming (GFM) converters. In this paper, the transient synchronizing stability of grid-forming (GFM) converters with droop-control during a grid fault is studied, with the influence of current saturation limitation considered especially. The current saturation limitation applied to limit overcurrent during grid faults brings transient voltage-source/current-source switched mode of the converter, which significantly influences the transient behavior. Considering the influence, an equivalent motion model similar to the rotor motion of a synchro... [more]

Subject: Process Control
Keywords: dynamic characteristics, low permeability, porous carbonate reservoir, well test
Low permeability porous carbonate rocks occupy a certain proportion in the Middle East. Horizontal injection-production well pattern development is often adopted. Due to the influence of well type and wellbore, reservoir dynamic monitoring is mainly based on conventional daily measurement data, well test and pressure monitoring. Therefore, it is particularly important to combine well test interpretation with production dynamic analysis to diagnose the main control factors and production characteristics of this type of reservoir. In this paper, the point source function is used to obtain the pressure variation function of a horizontal well in infinite formation with upper and lower closed boundary. Subject: Process Control
Keywords: CFX, control valve, flow characteristics, turbulent kinetic energy
This study considers a multi-stage sleeve control valve with different opening degrees. The flow capacity of the numerical model is calculated using the actual working conditions of the control valve in a nuclear power plant as a baseline. A flow resistance test bench is then used to measure the flow capacity under each opening degree, and the flow characteristic curve is plotted to verify the accuracy of the numerical model. Based on CFX software simulations of different opening speeds, pressures, turbulent kinetic energy clouds, and set detection curves, analysis of the flow characteristics of the multi-stage sleeve valve with high parameters shows that, with an increase in the degree of opening, the valve speed will also increase. However, the speed at the socket orifice is slightly different, exhibiting a higher opening in the middle and lower openings on both sides. A maximum speed of 792.4 m/s is found in the 40% valve orifice. A maximum value of the turbulent kinetic energy of 1... [more]

Recently, there is an interesting discussion that has transpired around the world about the usage of plant extracts as corrosion inhibitors. We report that to control corrosion in mild steel (MS) specimens in a 1M HCl medium, Trochodendron aralioides (T. aralioides) extract was used as an economical green corrosion inhibitor. A Novel SLOPDM Solar Maximum Power Point Tracking Control Strategy for the Solar Photovoltaic Power System
February 21, 2023 (v1)
Subject: Process Control
Keywords: boost converter, maximum power point tracking, partial shading condition, perturbation and observation, solar angle and horizon, solar photovoltaic module, solar photovoltaic power system, speed of light optical path difference measurement
This study proposes a novel maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control strategy for the solar photovoltaic power system (SPPS). The proposed system adopts two solar photovoltaic modules of 430 W, which are connected to a boost converter and an MPPT controller, since the traditional MPPT algorithm (such as perturbation and observation [P&O] algorithm) can hardly reach maximum power point (MPP) under low irradiance level and partial shading conditions (PSC), which leads to the low efficiency of the SPPS. The speed of light optical path difference measurement (SLOPDM) MPPT control strategy has been developed in this study to overcome this problem. The estimation of the optical path angle difference is used as the basis for the proposed control strategy. This is done by determining the relationship between the optical path angle difference, solar photovoltaic power impedance Rspv and load Ro, and then calculating the duty cycle corresponding to the MPP, which then drives the boost convert...
