PV String-Level Isolated DC−DC Power Optimizer with Wide Voltage Range

This paper proposes a photovoltaic (PV) string-level isolated DC−DC power optimizer with wide voltage range. A hybrid control scheme in which pulse frequency modulation (PFM) control and pulse width modulation (PWM) control are combined with a variable switching frequency is employed to regulate the wide PV voltage range. By adjusting the switching frequency in the above region during the PWM control process, the circulating current period can be eliminated and the turn-on period of the bidirectional switch of the dual-bridge LLC (DBLLC) resonant converter is reduced compared to that with a conventional PWM control scheme with a fixed switching frequency, resulting in better switching and conduction loss. Analysis of Heat Flux Distribution during Brush Seal Rubbing Using CFD with Porous Media Approach

This paper discusses the question of heat flux distribution between bristle package and rotor during a rubbing event. A three-dimensional Computational Fluid Dynamics (3D CFD) model of the brush seal test rig installed at the Institute of Thermal Turbomachinery (ITS) was created. The bristle package is modelled as a porous medium with local non-thermal equilibrium. The model is used to numerically recalculate experimentally conducted rub tests on the ITS test rig. The experimentally determined total frictional power loss serves as an input parameter to the numerical calculation. By means of statistical evaluation methods, the ma in influences on the heat flux distribution and the maximum temperature in the frictional contact are determined. The heat conductivity of the rotor material, the heat transfer coefficients at the bristles and the rubbing surface were identified as the dominant factors.

This study presents experimental studies of charcoal gasification with CO2 at different heating rates (1, 5, 10, 20, and 50 K min−1). The kinetics of the reaction C + CO2 under pore-diffusion control is studied. We propose a new method for the proper determination of activation energy during the processing of thermogravimetric curves of porous carbon gasification under conditions of pore-diffusion resistance. The results of the inverse kinetic problem solution are compared with different hypotheses about the regime of the investigated heterogeneous reaction process (kinetic, diffusion, pore-diffusion). We present the results of the displacement flows of different Newtonian and Herschel−Bulkley non-Newtonian fluids in a new-developed eccentric Hele−Shaw cell with dynamic similarly to real field wellbore annulus during primary cementing. In this paper, discrete time reaching law-based sliding mode control of continuous time systems is considered. In sliding mode control methods, usually the assumption of bounded absolute values of disturbances is used. However in many cases, the rate of change of the disturbance is also bounded. In the presented approach, this knowledge is used to improve the control precision and reduce the undesirable chattering. Another advantage of the proposed method is that the disturbance does not have to satisfy the matching conditions. Permanent magnet machines with segmented stator cores are affected by additional harmonic components of the cogging torque which cannot be minimized by conventional methods adopted for one-piece stator machines. In this study, a novel approach is proposed to minimize the cogging torque of such machines. This approach is based on the design of multiple independent shapes of the tooth tips through a topological optimization. Theoretical studies define a design formula that allows to choose the number of independent shapes to be designed, based on the number of stator core segments. The article presents various concepts of three-phase power rectifiers with improved quality of converted electric power. This effect is obtained by modulating the currents in the DC output circuits of the rectifiers by means of power electronics controlled voltage or current sources, working as a so-called voltage or current modulators. For further quality improvement of the grid currents of the analyzed systems, it was proposed to use an additional controlled current source connected in parallel to the DC load, hereinafter referred to as a supporting system. The variability of ground thermal conductivity, based on underground conditions, is often ignored during the design of ground-source heat pump systems. This study shows a field evidence of such site-scale variations through thermal response tests in eight borehole heat exchangers aligned at a site on a terrace along the foothills of mountains in northern Japan. Conventional analysis of the overall ground thermal conductivity along the total installation length finds that the value at one borehole heat exchanger is 2.5 times that at the other seven boreholes. History matching analysis of underground distributed temperature measurements generates vertical partial ground thermal conductivity data for four depth layers. Based on the moving line heat source theory, the partial values are generally within a narrow range expected for gravel deposits. Determinants of Enterprises’ Capital Structure in Energy Industry: Evidence from European Union

The aim of the study is to identify the main determinants of the capital structure of energy industry companies in the European Union. The study was based on a panel of 6122 companies from 25 EU countries, operating between 2011 and 2018. The study used multiple regression analysis. We have obtained strong evidence for a positive relationship between corporate debt and tangibility and size, and a negative relationship for profitability and liquidity. The factors that also affect the share of debt in capital have turned out to be growth (positive relationship) and non-debt tax shield (negative relationship), but the statistical significance of these relationships is ambiguous. We have shown that growth of industry business risk is accompanied by an increase in corporate debt and this is a distinguishing feature of the energy industry. The physical mechanisms underlying the dynamics of the flame kernel in stationary isotropic and anisotropic turbulent field are studied using large eddy simulations (LES) combined with a pdf approach method for the combustion model closure. Special attention is given to the ignition scenario, ignition delay, size and shape of the flame kernel among different turbulent regimes. Different stages of ignition are analysed for various levels of the initial velocity fluctuations and turbulence length scales. Impact of these parameters is found small for the ignition delay time but turns out to be significant during the flame kernel propagation phase and persists up to the stabilisation stage. The optimization of photovoltaic (PV) systems relies on the development of an accurate model of the parameter values for the solar/PV generating units. This work proposes a modified artificial jellyfish search optimizer (MJSO) with a novel premature convergence strategy (PCS) to define effectively the unknown parameters of PV systems. The PCS works on preserving the diversity among the members of the population while accelerating the convergence toward the best solution based on two motions: (i) moving the current solution between two particles selected randomly from the population, and (ii) searching for better solutions between the best-so-far one and a random one from the population. There is an increasing interest in low voltage direct current (LVDC) distribution grids due to advancements in power electronics enabling efficient and economical electrical networks in the DC paradigm. Power flow equations in LVDC grids are non-linear and non-convex due to the presence of constant power nodes. Depending on the implementation, power flow equations may lead to more than one solution and unrealistic solutions; therefore, the uniqueness of the solution should not be taken for granted. This paper proposes a new power flow solver based on a graph theory for LVDC grids having radial or meshed configurations. The solver provides a unique solution. Two test feeders composed of 33 nodes and 69 nodes are considered to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
