Effect on Combustion Properties of Coal Treated by Microwave Irradiation Combined with Sodium Hydroxide Solution

A Kentucky coal sample treated by microwave irradiation (MI) combined with sodium hydroxide solution was performed using a thermo-gravimetric analyzer (TGA) coupled to a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR). The combustion properties and structural changes of coal under different conditions were investigated and compared. The results show that the desulfurization efficiency of coal samples increases with the increase of sodium hydroxide solution concentration. Microwave irradiation can significantly improve the desulfurization efficiency. The whole combustion process of the treated coal sample becomes longer; the combustion performance becomes worse. The total mass loss of coal treated samples is significantly reduced, and the temperature corresponding to the maximum weight loss rate decreases with the increase of sodium hydroxide concentration. Exposure Assessment of Airborne Bacteria Emitted from Swine Manure Composting Plant

This study was performed to investigate the distribution characteristics of airborne bacteria emitted from swine manure composting plants. The types of swine manure composting plants selected for the survey in this study were as follows: screw type, rotary type, and natural dry type. Mean levels of airborne bacteria in swine manure composting plants were 7428 (±1024) CFU m−3 for the screw type, 3246 (±1407) CFU m−3 for the rotary type, and 5232 (±1217) CFU m−3 for the natural dry type, respectively. Based on the results obtained from this study, the swine manure composting plant operated by screw type showed the highest concentration of airborne bacteria, followed by the natural dry type and rotary type. The monthly concentration of airborne bacteria was the highest in August and the lowest in November, regardless of the type of swine manure composting plant. The present investigation aimed to use Citrullus colocynthis seeds (CCSs) and peels (CCPs) as an efficient natural adsorbent for methylene blue (MB) dye in an aqueous solution. Wheat pasta is one of the most important cereal products and is becoming increasingly popular worldwide because of its convenience, simple formulation, long shelf life, and high energetic value. Wheat pasta is usually obtained from refined flour rich in carbohydrates but with low content of phytochemicals, micronutrients, and fibre. The increased demand of consumers for healthy foods has generated interest among both researchers and food producers in developing functional food products. This review showcases the current trends in pasta fortification. Changes in the nutritional value, cooking quality, sensory attributes, and antioxidant properties of durum and common wheat pasta enriched with both plant and animal raw materials are discussed.

In this study, the convective mode heat transfer phenomena of bi-phase elasticoviscous (non-Newtonian) nanofluid is quantified by forcefully flowing it through a specially designed microchannel test section. The test section, which is rectangularly cross-sectioned and annexed internally with cylindrical needle ribs is numerically investigated by considering the walls to be maintained at a constant temperature, and to be susceptible to a magnetizing force field. Metal magnesium (Mg) fuels have been widely used in rocket propellants. The combustion study on individual Mg microparticles is crucial to the in-depth unveiling of the combustion mechanism of Mg-based propellants. In this paper, a new experimental setup was proposed to directly observe the combustion of individual micron-sized Mg particles, based on laser ignition and microscopic high-speed cinematography. It was investigated how these frozen internal structures affect the drying kinetics during freeze-drying. This work introduces three eco-friendly UV spectrophotometric methods for the simultaneous estimation of Paracetamol, Aceclofenac and Eperisone Hydrochloride in pharmaceutical tablet formulation. The procedures employed were simultaneous equation method and multivariate chemometric methods with phosphate buffer pH 7.80 as diluent. The simultaneous equation method encompasses absorbance measurement at three different wavelengths (λmax of the drugs). It exhibits linearity between 12−18 µg mL−1 for paracetamol, 3.69−5.53 µg mL−1 for Aceclofenac, and 2.76−4.15 µg mL−1 Eperisone hydrochloride. Effect of Gas-Liquid Contact Intensification on Heat and Mass Transfer in Deflector and Rod Bank Desulfurization Spray Tower

The deflector and the rod bank are commonly used to optimize flue gas distribution in the original spray tower (OST) of a wet flue gas desulfurization system (WFGD). In this paper, the internal optimization mechanism of the deflector desulfurization spray tower (DST) and the rod bank desulfurization spray tower (RBST) are studied. Based on the Euler−Lagrange method, the standard k-ε turbulence model, an SO2 absorption model and a porous media model, the numerical simulation of the desulfurization spray tower is carried out with the verification of the model rationality. The results show that there are gas-liquid contact intensification effects in DST and RBST. Global climate change is putting humanity under pressure, which in many areas poses an unprecedented threat to society as we know it. In an effort to mitigate its effects, it is necessary to reduce the overall production of greenhouse gases and thus, dependence on fossil fuels in all areas of human activities. The presented paper deals with an evaluation of energy mix of the Slovak Republic and four selected neighboring countries in the context of achieving their carbon neutral or carbon negative future. The development of the evaluated energy mixes as well as greenhouse gas emissions is presented from a long-term perspective, which makes it possible to evaluate and compare mutual trends and approaches to emission-free energy sectors.
Effect of Parinari curatellifolia Peel Flour on the Nutritional, Physical and Antioxidant Properties of Biscuits

This study investigated the impact of Parinari curatellifolia peel flour on the nutritional, physical and antioxidant properties of formulated biscuits. Biscuits enriched with 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% of Parinari (P). curatellifolia peel flour were formulated and characterised. Thermal, physicochemical, polyphenolic compounds and antioxidant properties of flour and biscuits were determined. The incorporation of P. curatellifolia peel flour significantly increased (p < 0.05) thermal properties (onset, peak and conclusion temperatures) of flour. However, enthalpy of gelatinisation, viscosity and pH of flour samples decreased. Nutritional analysis revealed an increase in ash (0.74% to 2.23%) and crude fibre contents (0.39% to 2.95%) along with an increase of P. curatellifolia peel flour levels. Protein content and carbohydrates decreased while moisture content was insignificantly affected by the addition of P. curatellifolia peel flour. Biopolymers are a promising alternative to petroleum-based plastic raw materials. They are bio-based, non-toxic and degradable under environmental conditions. In addition to the homopolymer poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB), there are a number of co-polymers that have a broad range of applications and are easier to process in comparison to PHB. The most prominent representative from this group of bio-copolymers is poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV). In this article, we show a new kinetic model that describes the PHBV production from fructose and propionic acid in Cupriavidus necator (C. necator). The developed model is used to analyze the effects of process parameter variations such as the CO2 amount in the exhaust gas and the feed rate. The Influence of Urban Sprawl on Air Pollution and the Mediating Effect of Vehicle Ownership

Based on the panel data of 224 prefecture-level and above cities in China from 2003 to 2016, this paper empirically studies the impact of urban sprawl on air pollution and introduces a mediating effect model to test the mediating role of vehicle ownership concerning the impact of urban sprawl on air pollution. The research in this paper arrives at three conclusions. First, urban sprawl has a significant positive effect on air pollution, and this conclusion is still valid after solving the endogeneity problem and conducting a robustness test. Second, the results of mediating effect test show that urban sprawl indirectly affects air pollution through the partial mediating effect of vehicle ownership. By removing the mediating effect, urban sprawl has a significant negative impact on air pollution, indicating that the mediating effect of vehicle ownership is higher concerning the impact of urban sprawl on air pollution. Influence of Blade Thickness on Solid−Liquid Two-Phase Flow and Impeller Wear in a Ceramic Centrifugal Slurry Pump

The impeller blades of ceramic slurry pumps are usually very thick for the purpose of prolonging the service life. In this paper, numerical simulations and wear test were conducted to investigate the influence of blade thickness on the solid−liquid two-phase flow and impeller wear in a ceramic centrifugal slurry pump. The wear test was conducted for CFD validation. The numerical results show that the incident angles of solid particles increase with increasing blade thickness, which results in larger wrap angles of the solid particle trajectories. The increasing wrap angles of the solid particle trajectories offset the region that the collisions between the blade pressure side and the solid particles side take place towards the impeller exit and lead to more impacts between the solid particles and the blade suction side.
