Charge Carrier Trapping during Diffusion Generally Observed for Particulate Photocatalytic Films

Photo-excited charge carriers play a vital role in photocatalysts and photovoltaics, and their dynamic processes must be understood to improve their efficiencies by controlling them. The photo-excited charge carriers in photocatalytic materials are usually trapped to the defect states in the picosecond time range and are subject to recombination to the nanosecond to microsecond order. When photo-excited charge carrier dynamics are observed via refractive index changes, especially in particulate photocatalytic materials, another response between the trapping and recombination phases is often observed. This response has always provided the gradual increase of the refractive index changes in the nanosecond order, and we propose that the shallowly trapped charge carriers could still diffuse and be trapped to other states during this process. The problem of transport is a special type of mathematical programming designed to search for the optimal distribution network, taking into account the set of suppliers and the set of recipients. This article proposes an innovative approach to solving the transportation problem and devises source codes in GNU Octave (version 3.4.3) to avoid the necessity of carrying out enormous calculations in traditional methods and to minimize transportation costs, fuel consumption, and CO2 emission. The paper presents a numerical example of a solution to the transportation problem using: the northwest corner, the least cost in the matrix, the row minimum, and Vogel’s Approximation Methods (VAM). Hydrocarbon reservoirs can be subjected to temperature changes due to different processes during production. Heat injection has become an advantageous method to produce heavy oils in Canada and Venezuela because it increases oil recovery. The heat reduces oil viscosity and oil flows easily. Colombia has significant heavy oil reserves in unconsolidated silty sandstones. It is important to understand the mechanical behavior of these reservoirs in thermal recovery conditions (temperature and effective stress). Mathematical modeling of thermal behavior of edge-emitting lasers requires the usage of sophisticated time-consuming numerical methods like FEM (Finite Element Method) or very complicated 3D analytical approaches. Our method enables extremely fast calculation of two crucial physical quantities; namely, junction and mirror temperature. Accelerated Aging Effects on the Hygrothermal Behaviour of Hemp Concrete: Experimental and Numerical Investigations

In this article, both numerical and experimental investigations were carried out on the durability of hemp concrete. For this, an accelerated aging process was performed using cycles of immersion, freezing and drying. Then, an experimental campaign was enabled to determine heat and mass transfer properties, as well as the microstructure for both aged and reference materials. Observations using a digital microscope showed the appearance of cracks at the interfaces and an increase of the porosity of about 6%. These microstructural modifications imply a non-negligible evolution of heat and mass transfer properties. Thus, a numerical model for the prediction of heat and mass transfer was developed. Non-Isothermal Vortex Flow in the T-Junction Pipe

The numerical simulation approach of heat carrier mixing regimes in the T-junction shows that the RANS approach is beneficial for a qualitative flow analysis to obtain relatively agreed averaged velocity and temperature. Moreover, traditionally, the RANS approach only predicts the averaged temperature distribution. This mathematical model did not consider the temperature fluctuation variations important for the thermal fatigue task. It should also be emphasized that unlike the LES approach, the steady RANS approach cannot express a local flow structure in intense mixing zones. Nevertheless, apparently the adopted RANS approach should be used for assessing the quality of computational meshes, boundary conditions with the purpose to take LES for further numerical simulation.

Due to the significant increase in DC-compatible loads, on-site Photovoltaic (PV) generation, and local battery storage, DC distribution has gained considerable attention in buildings. To provide an accurate evaluation of the DC-RNG’s efficiency and component cost, a one-year load profile of a conventional AC-powered house is considered, and AC appliances’ load profiles are scaled to their equivalent available DC appliances. Based on the modified load profiles, proper wiring schemes, converters, and protection devices are chosen to construct a DC-RNG. Subsequent mineral trapping of the CO2 as carbonate minerals is one of the most secure forms of trapping. In this work, three-dimensional thermal simulations of single 18650 lithium-ion battery cell and 75 V lithium-ion battery pack composed of 21 18650 battery cells are performed based on a multi-scale multi-domain (MSMD) battery modeling approach. Different cooling approaches’ effects on 18650 lithium-ion battery and battery pack thermal management under fast discharging and external shorting conditions are investigated and compared. It is found that for the natural convection, forced air cooling, and/or mini-channel liquid cooling approaches, the temperature of battery cell easily exceeds 40 °C under 3C rate discharging condition. While under external shorting condition, the temperature of cell rises sharply and reaches the 80 °C in a short period of time, which can trigger thermal runaway and may even lead to catastrophic battery fire. High temperature smoke caused by fire is a major cause of casualties. In order to ensure the safety of personnel, it is very important to control the spread of smoke and enable personnel to quickly withdraw from the fire scene. While traditional hard isolation, such as fire doors, may hinder the safe evacuation of people, the use of an air curtain as a flexible isolation has received more and more attention from researchers. In this paper, the influence of jet direction of compound air curtain on the smoke control effect was studied, and six working conditions were designed. The temperature and smoke isolation of the compound air curtain were numerically simulated by using ANSYS FLUENT software. The parameters such as temperature, velocity pressure and velocity streamline were analyzed, and the smoke control effects of six different jet directions were discussed.
