A Theoretical Model of Residual Magnetic Field around a Pre-Magnetized Casing String

In the field of petroleum drilling engineering, passive magnetic ranging technology is generally used for specialized drilling operations such as connecting relief wells, preventing wellbore collisions, guiding parallel horizontal wells, etc. Although pre-magnetized casing strings have been used to improve the detection distance and accuracy, the theoretical mechanism is not well understood. Based on the equivalent current model of a permanent magnet, a theoretical magnetic field model around the pre-magnetized casing string was established by using the vector potential method and vector superposition principle and validated by the COMSOL Multiphysics software. Our results show that connecting pre-magnetized individual casings with homogeneous magnetic poles can enlarge the magnetic induction intensity around the total casing string. Understanding the Effect of Cementitious Grouting Pressure on Micro-Fracture Permeability for Rock Reinforcement Underground: A Lab Study

In grouting support projects, due to the small concealment of micro-fractures, the support effect often fails to meet design requirements. The percolation effect is a common factor that causes grouting failure, and the influence of grouting pressure on the percolation effect is very obvious. In this article, a design of a micro-fracture grouting experimental system is presented that can realize high-pressure grouting and then uses a variety of ultrafine cements to carry out high- and low-pressure grouting tests under different fracture opening conditions, thereby obtaining the grouting pressure and accumulated grouting weight during the grouting process. The results show that a combination of the grouting pressure curve and the cumulative grouting weight curve can determine whether the ultrafine cement will have a percolation effect. Wide Input Voltage Range Operation of the Series Resonant DC-DC Converter with Bridgeless Boost Rectifier

The series resonant DC-DC converter (SRC) can regulate the input voltage in a wide range at a fixed switching frequency. In this work, the bridgeless rectifier, which is utilized intensively in the applications of the power factor correction, has been integrated into the SRC as a voltage step-up cell at the output-side of the SRC. It is shown that the conventional overlapping pulse-width modulation (PWM) of the two metal oxide semiconductor field-effect transistors MOSFETs in this rectification cell limits the input voltage regulation range of the converter due to excessive power losses in abnormal operating conditions. The abnormal operating conditions occur when the instantaneous voltage across the resonant capacitor is larger than the secondary voltage of the isolation transformer. Generally, the high-pressure hydrogen flow can generate a strong impact on the check valve, which can cause damage and failure. Thermochemical Conversion of Biomass and Municipal Waste into Useful Energy Using Advanced HiTAG/HiTSG Technology

An advanced thermal conversion system involving high-temperature gasification of biomass and municipal waste into biofuel, syngas or hydrogen-rich gas is presented in this paper. The decomposition of solid biomass and wastes by gasification is carried out experimentally with a modern and innovative regenerator and updraft continuous gasifier, among others. A ceramic high-cycle regenerator provides extra energy for the thermal conversion of biomass or any other solids waste. Highly preheated air and steam gas (heated up to 1600 °C) was used as an oxidizing or gasification agent (feed gas). Preheated feed gas also enhances the thermal decomposition of the gasification solids for fuel gas. However, the main objective of this work is to promote new and advanced technology for the thermochemical conversion of biomass for alternative energy production. The integration of thermal energy storage systems (TES) in waste-heat recovery applications shows great potential for energy efficiency improvement. In this study, a 2D mathematical model is formulated to analyze the performance of a two-tank thermochemical heat storage system using metal hydrides pair (Mg2Ni/LaNi5), for high-temperature waste heat recovery. Moreover, the system integrates a phase change material (PCM) to store and restore the heat of reaction of LaNi5. The effects of key properties of the PCM on the dynamics of the heat storage system were analyzed. Following a recycling or continuous recycling process, there is always waste with no material or market value that can be converted into energy or other fossil fuel substitutes. The present study aimed to evaluate the management of organic waste policy and to predict the trend of organic waste generation in Albania. The research used an appropriate Box−Jenkins Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) to determine the quantification of organic waste to be generated. The main results obtained can support the decision-making process in the planning, change and short-term implementation of organic waste management, and the information provided is very useful in collecting, transporting, storing and managing waste in Albanian cities (Tirana, Durrës, Kukës, Berat, Shkodra, Dibër, Gjirokastër and Elbasan). Furthermore, the high percentage of the organic waste generation until 2025 constitutes good premises to raising public awareness related to their energy recovery.

Analysis of the DC Fault Current Limiting Characteristics of a DC Superconducting Fault Current Limiter Using a Transformer

Recently, a lot of interesting research has been conducted to solve the fault current problem of the DC system. In long-distance transmission, DC transmission is more economical than AC transmission. The connection of power grids with a DC system can also better control the power flow and provide high stability. However, the control of the fault current in a DC system is more difficult to handle than in an AC system because the DC system does not make a zero point, unlike the AC system. In addition, there is a disadvantage, in that an arc occurs when a circuit breaker operates. In this paper, a new type of DC superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) is proposed. This new type of SFCL is composed of two superconducting elements, a current limiting resistor/reactor (CLR), and a transformer. With the proposed SFCL, the DC fault current limiting experiments were performed and the DC fault current limiting characteristics of this SFCL due to the component of the CLR were analyzed.

Synthetic Data Generator for Electric Vehicle Charging Sessions: Modeling and Evaluation Using Real-World Data

Electric vehicle (EV) charging stations have become prominent in electricity grids in the past few years. Electronically Controlled Actuators for a Micro Wind Turbine Furling Mechanism

This paper presents two electromechanical systems used for the overspeed protection of small wind turbines. The actuators have the purpose of rotating the back rudder (tail vane) of the wind turbine when the blades are overspeeding. The rudder rotation angle is 90 degrees in order to completely turn the wind turbine blades away from the wind flow direction. The first device is a new limited-angle torque electromechanical actuator consisting of a device with a simplified structure composed of four permanent magnets (two on each side) glued on a rotor mounted between two stator poles built from ordinary rectangular construction pipes and an electronic control unit. The second device is based on a regular stepper motor actuator with a reduction gear and an appropriate control scheme to maximize the energy harvested at high, over-nominal wind speeds. Effects of Biodiesel Addition on the Physical Properties and Reactivity of the Exhaust Soot Particles from Diesel Engine

The present study investigated the effects of adding 20 vol.% biodiesel to petroleum diesel (to produce a mixture termed B20) on the physical properties and reactivity of the resulting exhaust soot particles. Tests were performed at different engine loads of a constant speed, and the soot particles from the combustion of B20 and petroleum diesel fuel (DF) were collected from the engine exhaust stream. Transmission electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy were employed for the analysis of soot morphology and nanostructure. The thermogravimetric analysis was used to determine the oxidative reactivity of the soot. For both the DF and B20 soot, increased engine loads result in soot aggregates with more compact morphology and primary soot particles with larger size and more organized structure. The decommissioning of synchronous generators, and their replacement by decoupled renewable power plants, has a significant impact on the transient stability performance of a power system. Experimental and Computational Evaluation of Heavy Metal Cation Adsorption for Molecular Design of Hydrothermal Char

A model hydrochar was synthesized from glucose at 180 °C and its Cu(II) sorption capacity was studied experimentally and computationally as an example of molecular-level adsorbent design. The sorption capacity of the glucose hydrochar was less than detection limits (3 mg g−1) and increased significantly with simple alkali treatments with hydroxide and carbonate salts of K and Na. Sorption capacity depended on the salt used for alkali treatment, with hydroxides leading to greater improvement than carbonates and K+ more than Na+. Subsequent zeta potential and infrared spectroscopy analysis implicated the importance of electrostatic interactions in Cu(II) sorption to the hydrochar surface. Refracturing technology is one of the key technologies to recover the productivity of horizontal wells in tight oil reservoirs, and the selection of best candidate wells from target blocks is the basis of this technology. Based on the refracturing production database, this paper analyzes the direct relationship between geological data, initial fracturing completion data, and dynamic production data, and the stimulation effect of refracturing. Considering the interaction among multiple factors, the factors affecting the stimulation effect of refracturing are classified and integrated, and a comprehensive index including geology, engineering, and production is constructed, making this index meaningful both for physical and engineering properties.
