From Secondary Biomass to Bio-Methanol through CONVERGE Technology: An Environmental Analysis

Owing to residual biomass availability, the share of advanced biofuels produced from secondary biomass is forecasted to increase and significantly contribute towards achieving net-zero emissions. The current work investigates bio-methanol production through a new process configuration designed to improve the environmental performance when compared to the state-of-the art technologies (Base Case). The environmental evaluation is conducted according to the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology. ReCiPe was employed as an impact assessment method with the aid of GaBi software. Depending on the plant geographical location, wooden biomass and exhausted olive pomace were evaluated as biomass sources. Integrated Assessment of Economic Supply and Environmental Effects of Biomass Co-Firing in Coal Power Plants: A Case Study of Jiangsu, China

High availability of agro-industrial residues, combined with a well-established biorefinery system, makes the sugarcane industry in Brazil a good option for HTL technology deployment. The phenomenon of pipeline erosion dominated by sulfur particles has become a key research target for sulfur-containing gas-gathering pipelines. Gas-solid two-phase flow of sulfur-containing gases is simulated with a coupled CFD-DPM model in this paper. The Realizable k-ε turbulence model was used to determine the changes in the complex flow field and the Euler-Lagrange method was used to describe the specific trajectory of sulfur particles in the complex flow field. The main erosion trace distribution and the effect of secondary flow effects at the elbow were analyzed and the erosion distribution pattern was investigated for different curvature ratios, particle sizes, and pipe diameters. Herein, the recent progress relating to asymmetric atomic catalysts for the HER is reviewed, including low coordination, heteroatomic coordination, and bimetallic coordination. In addition, the connection between the coordination structures and the presented electrocatalytic performance was discussed. An Experimental Study on SO2 Emission and Ash Deposition Characteristics of High Alkali Red Mud under Large Proportional Co-Combustion Conditions in Fluidized Bed

As an industrial solid waste, the discharge of a large amount of red mud (RM) causes serious environmental problems; thus, a large proportion of RM co-combustion has been proposed to solve the consumption problem. In this paper, an experiment with various proportions of RM co-combustion was conducted on a 0.2 t/h circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler. Desulfurization performance, combustion characteristics, and ash deposition characteristics were analyzed, especially under the large proportional co-combustion conditions. One of the most effective strategies to mitigate water shortages worldwide is to reuse treated wastewater for freshwater production employing reverse osmosis (RO) technology. This strategy is appropriate in urban areas of arid or semi-arid regions as it can provide a sustainable and reliable water source close to the consumers. One of the drawbacks of RO is the high variability of production costs due to the electricity intensity. In addition, depending on the electricity source, it can also result in substantial environmental costs. This study showed that upgrading pumping and RO membrane systems of a wastewater reuse plant in Cyprus can significantly alleviate these drawbacks in terms cost, water recovery rate, and air pollution.
