Effect of Temporal Variation in Chemical Composition on Methane Yields of Rendering Plant Wastewater

The effect of temporal variation in chemical composition on methane yields of rendering plant wastewater was studied in batch experiments at 37 °C. In total, 14 grab samples were collected from Monday through Friday (Day 1 to 5) from a rendering plant located in Queensland, Australia. Each day, three samples were collected: early morning (S1), midday (S2) and afternoon (S3). Chemical analyses showed that a significant different in total solids (TS), volatile solids (VS), and chemical oxygen demand (COD) was noticed among the samples. TS content ranged from 0.13% to 1.82% w/w, while VS content was between 0.11% and 1.44% w/w. Among the samples, S2 of Day 3 had the highest COD concentration (10.5 g/L) whilst S1 of Day 1 had the lowest COD (3.75 g/L) and total volatile fatty acid (VFA) concentration (149.1 mg/L). A Novel Classification of the 330 kV Nigerian Power Network Using a New Voltage Stability Pointer

The incessant power outages that characterize the Nigerian power network (NGP), as in all developing countries, are not limited to the shortage of fuel for power generation. However, differential power shortages between the generated power and the load demand are alarming. In this study, we propose a new voltage stability pointer (NVSP) based on a reduced one-line power network to act as a classifier. The NVSP was trained with a support vector machine (SVM) using a medium Gaussian kernel classification toolbox (mGkCT) in the MATLAB environment. This classification is based on the power network susceptibility to voltage instability. NGP 28-bus 330 kV data were extracted and modeled in the MATLAB environment and tested with the NVSP-mGkCT classifier. Research on Value-Seeking Calculation Method of Icing Environmental Parameters Based on Four Rotating Cylinders Array

This paper calculates and analyzes the collision and freezing characteristics of water droplets on the cylindrical conductors with different diameters and deduces the variation law of icing weight change rate on different diameters rotating cylindrical conductors with wind speed, ambient temperature, liquid water content, and median volume diameter. Then, a prediction and value-seeking method of icing environment parameters based on rotating circular conductors is determined. The Role of Hydrogen in the Visegrad Group Approach to Energy Transition

Impact of Changes in Limit Values of Electric and Magnetic Field on Personnel Performing Diagnostics of Transformers

Electric and magnetic fields accompany technical personnel in their working environment (work exposure). That is why many countries have the appropriate regulations. The impact of electric and magnetic fields on humans is still not fully recognized. This is the reason why the limit values of its intensity in many countries differs significantly. The article presents changes in the stress limits of the electric and magnetic fields in Poland at the turn of the last dozen years. The last such change was the result of a Directive of the European Union (2013/35/EU). The effects of changes in limit values on the working conditions of technical personnel performing diagnostics of high voltage transformers or working in the immediate vicinity of such transformers are presented. The article shows that recent changes have improved the working conditions of technical personnel in relation to the electric field and worsened the conditions taking into account the magnetic field.

An increase in the share of renewables in heat supply systems is a promising direction to reach sustainable development goals and decarbonization. The primary objective of this research was to determine the impact of renewable energy, alternative and nuclear energy, urbanization, energy use, and fossil fuel energy consumption on Romanian economic development. To investigate the relation between variables, we employed the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) technique in conjunction with FMOLS (Fully Modified Least Squares) and CCR (Canonical Cointegrating Regression). Evaporation, Autoignition and Micro-Explosion Characteristics of RP-3 Kerosene Droplets under Sub-Atmospheric Pressure and Elevated Temperature

The evaporation, autoignition and micro-explosion characteristics of RP-3 kerosene droplets under sub-atmospheric pressure (0.2−1.0 bar) and elevated temperature (473−1023 K) were experimentally investigated using high-speed camera technology. The results showed that the droplet evaporation rate increased monotonically with increasing temperature and pressure under 573−873 K and 0.2−1.0 bar. The decrease of temperature and pressure was obviously detrimental to the successful autoignition of droplets and increased the ignition delay time. Autoignitions at 0.2 bar were very difficult and required an ambient temperature of at least 973 K, which was about 150 K higher than the minimum ignition temperature at 1.0 bar. Sub-atmospheric pressure environment significantly inhibits the formation of soot particle clusters during the autoignition of droplet. Update on the Life-Cycle GHG Emissions of Passenger Vehicles: Literature Review and Harmonization

Passenger vehicles are responsible for significant greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, which calls for accurate and up-to-date estimates of the comparative emissions of the main types of alternative power trains, to enable evidence-based policy recommendations. This paper provides a systematic review and harmonization of the recent scientific literature on this topic. The results show that battery electric vehicles (BEVs) represent the most promising option to decarbonize the passenger vehicle fleet in all considered world regions, with up to −70% reductions in GHG emissions possible, vs. conventional internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEVs) running on petrol. Development of a Flashover Voltage Prediction Model with the Pollution and Conductivity as Factors Using the Response Surface Methodology

In this paper, the response surface methodology (RSM) is used to predict the flashover voltage of a cap and pin 1512L insulator used by SONELGAZ Algerian Power Company (SPE). The pollution and conductivity are studied using a two-level central composite design. MINITAB 19 software is used to perform the regression analysis and analysis of variance (ANOVA) of the data, from which the full quadratic model is developed. The results show that both the pollution and conductivity have a significant effect on the response. The model validation shows the good agreement between the experiment’s obtained results and the predicted results. Therefore, the model could be used to predict the flashover voltage.

Since the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, people all around the globe have seen its effects, including city closures, travel restrictions, and stringent security measures. However, the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic extend beyond people’s everyday lives. It impacts the air, water, soil, and carbon emissions as well. This article examines the effect of energy and the COVID-19 pandemic on China’s carbon dioxide emissions in light of the aforementioned context, using the daily data from 20 January 2020 and ending on 20 April 2022. Among the different alternatives for the production of biofuels, food waste could be a favorable bioenergy source. Using food waste as a feedstock has the potential to meet the expectations of the second generation of biofuels, in terms of environmental savings and revenue-generation, and which, along with other valuable co-products, can contribute to biorefinery profits. This study aimed to investigate the early stages of life-cycle assessment (LCA) for restaurant food waste processed into bioethanol, biomethane, and oil, split over different scenarios. Based on a life cycle inventory analysis, the environmental impacts were assessed using an IMPACT 2002+ methodology.
