Influence of the Variable Cross-Section Stator Ventilation Structure on the Temperature of an Induction Motor

The performance of an induction motor, a core component of the high-speed train, is of critical importance to the safety of the train. As a result of limited space in the train and the motor’s high-power density, motor heating poses a grave threat to its service life and operational safety. In this study, a 600-kW high-speed train induction motor model was established and its temperature field calculated by the finite volume method. To optimize the heat dissipation and further reduce the motor temperature rise, a variable cross-section stator ventilation hole was proposed and its influence on the wind velocity and temperature rise comprehensively studied. After comparing the cooling effect of the linear and nonlinear variable cross-section of the ventilation hole, the influence of the cross-sectional diameter and the radial position of the ventilation hole on the temperature rise was explored. Finally, the most favorable scheme for motor heat dissipation was determined.

Implementation of anaerobic digestion of primary sludge in modern wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) limits the availability of organic carbon for denitrification in conventional nitrification-denitrification (N/DN) systems. In order to ensure efficient denitrification, dosage of the external carbon source is commonly undertaken. The conventional cascode structure for driving depletion-mode (D-mode) gallium nitride (GaN) high electron mobility transistors (HEMTs) raises reliability concerns. This article compares dynamic dimensioning based on k-means clustering to static dimensioning on a case study of the Greek electricity market. It presents a model of system imbalances which aims to capture various realistic features of the stochastic behavior of imbalances, including skewed distributions, the dependencies of the imbalance distribution on various imbalance drivers, and the contributions of idiosyncratic noise to system imbalances. The article describes a complex of non-contact methods for remote diagnosis of high-voltage insulators as well as the two-channel method for remote diagnostics of the operating state of high-voltage insulators, based on the registration of partial discharges by electromagnetic and acoustic sensors. The presented device allows visual inspection and searches for faulty high-voltage equipment and a remote non-contact method of recording high-intensity electric fields of industrial frequency and their spatial distribution based on the electro-optical effect. The scheme of using the system for monitoring and diagnosing the technical condition of high-voltage support insulators of open switchgear is described. The results of experimental studies confirm the possibility of industrial applicability of the proposed method for non-contact remote diagnostics of the state of high-voltage insulators under operating voltage.

In this paper, an embedded half-bridge Z-source inverter based on gamma structure is proposed. In contrast with the classical half-bridge inverter, the proposed inverter can generate zero voltage levels in output. High voltage gain and low voltage stress on capacitors are the main advantages of the proposed converter. The value of the boost factor in the proposed structure is increased by changing both the shoot-through (ST) duty cycle and turns ratio of the transformer. The operating principle of the proposed converter in four operating modes is presented. We also calculate the critical inductance and compare the proposed converter with conventional topologies. In addition, power loss and THD analysis are presented. Finally, PSCAD/EMTDC software is used to verify the correct operation of the proposed inverter and the experimental results.

The paper presents the results of measurements and calculations concerning the influence of weather conditions on the operation of wet cooling towers of 905 MWe units of the Opole Power Plant (Poland). The research concerned the influence of temperature and relative humidity of air, wind and power unit load on the water temperature at the outlet from the cooling tower, the level of water cooling, cooling efficiency and cooling water losses. In the cooling water loss, the evaporation loss stream and the drift loss stream were distinguished. In the analyzed operating conditions of the power unit, for example, an increase in Tamb air by 5 °C (from 20−22 °C to 25−27 °C) causes an increase in temperature at the outlet of the cooling tower by 3−4 °C. The influence of air temperature and humidity on the level of water cooling ΔTw and cooling efficiency ε were also found. The article presents and discusses the results of research on hazard, especially temperature, for selected lithium-ion-phosphate cells operated in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations but used under onerous mining conditions. This applies to the performance of cells in battery sets without the application of any management system (BMS). On the basis of the obtained test results, first of all, the influence of the value of the charging current of cells and the ambient temperature for both free and deteriorated heat exchange, appropriate conclusions and practical recommendations were formulated. This applies especially to threats in the case of random, cyclic, minor overloading, and discharging of the cells.
Studies on the Effects of NH3 in H2 and Air on the Performance of PEMFC

The effect of NH3 in H2 and in air was investigated at various concentrations ranging from 1.0 ppm to 100 ppm in air and ranging from 0.25 ppm to 10 ppm in fuel. The effect of NH3 on cathode caused an instantaneous decrease in cell voltage which dropped from 0.734 V to 0.712 V in 30 h and drop rates was 0.73 mV/h for 1 ppm; however, the cell voltage dropped to 0.415 V in 1 h for 100 ppm of NH3. The voltage could not be recovered after the polarization test (V-I test) but could be recovered to 84.4% after operation with neat air for 1.5 h and 98.4% after cycle voltammogram (CV). It was found that the voltage drop was obvious, and the drop rate increased with the NH3 concentration in H2. The voltage drop rates at 500 mA/cm2 were 0.54 mV/h for 0.5 ppm of NH3, 0.8 mV/h for 1 ppm, and 2 mV/h for 10 ppm. The voltage could be recovered from 70.6% to 77.3% after discharged with high purity H2 for 24 h, to 92.8% after being purged with clean air for 10 h and to 98.4% after CV scan. The toleranc... In coal mines that are exploiting methane-saturated seams, high-level emission of methane is often the basic limitation for modern and high-efficiency longwall complexes. Attempting to correlate the characteristics of the fractionated components from bamboo to its susceptibility to enzyme is often inconclusive depending on the parameters of pretreatment conditions. Based on the integrated analysis of chemical components, cellulose bioconversion, characteristic property of isolated hemicellulose, and lignin, the optimal mild pretreatment operation for Moso bamboo was 4% NaOH in 20% ethanol aqueous solution. A total of 91.9% mass was successfully recovered, and 66% bioconversion efficiency of the cellulosic sample was finally achieved. Meanwhile, over 25% hemicelluloses and 7% lignin were isolated, and the characteristic analysis indicated that the fractionated biomacromolecule maintained the original core structure, which is a benefit to be further utilized for the production of chemicals or polymers.

Transport is one of the key sectors of the European economy. However, the intensive development of transport caused negative effects in the form of an increase in the emission of harmful substances. Testing Selected Personal Protection Items of Firefighters in Combined Conditions of Mechanical Loads and Temperatures Occurring during Gas LNG Leaks

The article examined selected individual protection used during rescue and fire-extinguishing activities. Fire helmet and special shoes were examined under conditions resembling the operational conditions of LNG gases. The assessment of the equipment consumption was based on strength tests. The main threats come from thermal and mechanical factors. Therefore, firefighters must properly protect their head and legs. At −80 °C, the energy of the impact force of the beater in the headache was, 12.4 J and 15.1 J for points P1 and P2, respectively. The studies showed that cooling the chamber to −80 °C adversely affected the structure of the fire helmet exposed to impact Dynamic.
