The Use of a Real-Time Simulator for Analysis of Power Grid Operation States with a Wind Turbine

The main issue in this paper is the real-time simulator of a part of a power grid with a wind turbine. The simulator is constructed on the basis of a classic PC running under a classic operating system. The proposed solution is expected and desired by users who intend to manage power microgrids as separate (but not autonomous) areas of common national power systems. The main reason for the decreased interest in real-time simulators solutions built on the basis of PC is the simulation instability. The instability of the simulation is due to not keeping with accurate results when using small integration steps and loss of accuracy or loss of stability when using large integration steps. The Effects of Ultra-Low Viscosity Engine Oil on Mechanical Efficiency and Fuel Economy

The development of a sustainable powertrain requires improved thermal efficiency. Reducing frictional power losses through the use of ultra-low viscosity oil is one of the most effective and economical ways. Analysis of Wind Turbine Aging through Operation Data Calibrated by LiDAR Measurement

Physical Dimensions as a Design Objective in Heat Transfer Equipment: The Case of Plate and Fin Heat Exchangers

The Use of the Fourier Series to Analyze the Shaping of Thermodynamic Processes in Heat Engines

The article presents the application of the Fourier series to theoretical considerations on the method of maximum temperature control in thermodynamic cycles of internal combustion engines equipped with an additional independent kinematic system. Hourly Variation of Wind Speeds in the Philippines and Its Potential Impact on the Stability of the Power System

Wind energy development has been limited by concerns associated to the varying features in wind speed which tends to destabilize the power system. This study aims to clarify the variability of winds within a day in the Philippines, specifically the hourly changes of onshore horizontal winds at 100-m hub-heights. A whole one-year experiment using the Weather Research and Forecasting model shows that onshore wind speeds decrease during the transitional hours between land breeze and sea breeze. The decreases in wind speed are most significant over coastal regions with high sloping topography. The extreme decreases in wind speed during morning hours, due to the natural processes, are found to often occur at the same time as the extreme electricity undersupply caused by the morning increase in energy demand. Harmonic Mitigation Using Passive Harmonic Filters: Case Study in a Steel Mill Power System

In this study, we mitigated the harmonic voltage in a power system that contained the roughing mill (RM) and finishing mill (FM) motor drives. AC/DC converter type RM drive is a non-linear, large-capacity varying load that adversely affects power quality, e.g., a flicker, voltage distortion, etc. The voltage drop can be compensated within a certain limit by using the proper capacity of a power capacitor bank. In addition, the voltage distortion can be controlled as per the guidelines of IEEE Std. 519 using the passive harmonic filter corresponding to the characteristic harmonics of the motor drive load. The paper presents the combustion profile of selected fuels as a result of thermogravimetric analysis. The main purpose of this study was to investigate a mixture of different types of fuel and the influence of the use of a fuel additive on the combustion process profile. Thermal Analysis of a Solar External Receiver Tube with a Novel Component of Guide Vanes

The heat transfer performance of a solar external receiver tube with guide vanes was numerically studied under non-uniform heat flux conditions. Models of the smooth tube and the tube with guide vanes were built. The distributions of the temperature, velocity, turbulence intensity, and Nu predicted by these two models were compared to investigate the heat transfer enhancement and the mixing effect of the guide vanes. The effect of the Re and the α on the heat transfer enhancement was also studied. The results show that the guide vanes form spiraling flows, reduce the maximum tube and molten salt temperatures, and improve the heat transfer. The present study investigates the effect of TiO2 nanoparticles on the stability of Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR)-produced stable emulsion. The chemical precipitation method is used to synthesize TiO2 nanoparticles, and their properties were determined using various analytical characterization techniques such as X-ray Diffraction (XRD), High-Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HRTEM), and Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM). Solar Radiation on a Parabolic Concave Surface

Curved structures are used in buildings and may be integrated with photovoltaic modules. Self-shading occurs on non-flat (curved) surface collectors resulting in a non-uniform distribution of the direct beam and the diffuse incident solar radiation along the curvature the surface. The present study uses analytical expressions for calculating and analyzing the incident solar radiation on a general parabolic concave surface. Concave surfaces facing north, south and east/west are considered, and numerical values for the annual incident irradiations (in kWh) are demonstrated for two locations: 32° N (Tel Aviv, Israel) and 52.2° N (Lindenberg, Germany). New Insights into Crust and upper Mantle Structure in Guangdong Province, China and Its Geothermal Implications

Southeast Asia contains significant natural geothermal resources. However, the mechanism for generating geothermal anomalies by the crust−mantle structure still needs to define. In this study, we focused on Guangdong Province, China. We conducted three magnetotelluric profiles to interpret the crust and upper mantle structure beneath the Guangdong Province and its geothermal implications. Based on data analysis results, a two-dimension inversion was conducted on the dataset. The inversion model revealed that there is a presence of upwelling channels, and some channels are connected with shallow crustal fault zone; the thickness of crust and lithosphere in Guangdong Province is relatively thin. An ATEG is essentially formed by three main elements: (1) heat absorber in contact with exhaust gases; (2) thermoelectric modules that directly convert heat into electricity; (3) heat sink to increase the heat transfer through the system. Thermoelectric modules (TEM) are commonly based on small-scale commercial units, with tenths of them needed to assemble a full ATEG device. Characterization and Impact of Waste Plastic Oil in a Variable Compression Ratio Diesel Engine

The characterization of pyrolysis oil obtained from mixed waste plastics and its utilization in a compression ignition engine were investigated. The chemical compositions and physicochemical properties of distilled waste plastic oil (WPO) and crude waste plastic oil (CWPO) were analyzed. The experiment was conducted with a variable compression ratio diesel engine at various loads and compression ratios to evaluate combustion characteristics, exhaust emissions, and engine performance. The experimental results show that CWPO contains the highest percentage of carbon atoms in the C4−C11 group, while WPO contains the highest percentage of carbon atoms in the C12−C20 group, similar to the main compositions of diesel fuel.
