February 21, 2023 (v1)
Keywords: distributed parameter systems, Fault Detection, hot steel strip rolling, laminar cooling process, process monitoring, time–space separation
The laminar cooling process is an important procedure in hot steel strip rolling. The spatial distribution and the drop curve of the strip temperature are crucial for the production and the quality of the steel strip. Traditionally, lumped parameter methods are often used for the modeling of the laminar cooling process, making it difficult to consider the impact of the variation of state variables and related parameters on the system, which seriously affect the stability of the steel strip quality. In this paper, a modeling and monitoring method with a time−space nature for the laminar cooling process is proposed to monitor the spatial variation of the strip temperature. Firstly, the finite-dimensional model is obtained by time−space separation to describe the temperature variation of the steel strip. Next, a global model is constructed by using the multi-modeling integration method. Then, a residual generator is designed to monitor the strip temperature where the statistics and the th... [more]

Keywords: dynamic high-type control (DHTC), fuzzy logic control (FLC), interval type-2 fuzzy logic controller (IT2FLC), multi-population genetic algorithm (MPGA), photoelectric tracking system
This paper proposes a dynamic high-type control (DHTC) method based on an interval type-2 fuzzy logic controller (IT2FLC), which is used in the photoelectric tracking system to improve the steady-state accuracy and response speed. Adding integrators to the traditional multi-loop feedback control loop can increase the system type, thereby speeding up the response speed and improving the steady-state accuracy, but there is a risk of integral saturation. Switching the type dynamically according to the system state can avoid integral saturation while retaining the advantages of the high-type. Fuzzy logic control (FLC) can dynamically change the output value according to the input change and has the advantages of fast response speed and strong ability to handle uncertainties. Therefore, in this paper, the FLC is introduced into the high-type control system, and the output of the FLC is used as the gain of the integrator to control the on-off to achieve the goal of dynamic switching type, wh... Keywords: cooling system control strategy, PEMFC, variable-universe fuzzy PID control
To ensure the energy conversion efficiency of a proton-exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC), it is necessary to establish a water-cooled cooling system to keep the inlet temperature of fuel-cell coolant and the temperature difference between the inlet and outlet temperature within the set range. First, a semi-empirical and semi-mechanism model was built in Simulink. Then, a variable-universe fuzzy PID controller was designed to adjust the quantization factor and scaling factor by scaling factor α1, α2 and to improve the accuracy of the control results. Finally, the cooling system model with controller is simulated. The results show that compared with other control methods, the simulation results of the variable-universe fuzzy PID controller have smaller maximum overshoot, faster response speed and more gentle temperature fluctuation.

Keywords: constant speed, double closed-loop, hydraulic servo valve-controlled motor system, interference suppression, sliding-mode control
In this paper, a control method featuring double closed-loop compound robust is proposed to deal with the underperformances of double pump-double valve-controlled motors under external interference, such as poor stability of output speed, low controllability, and difficulties in managing synchronous output. By using this method, with the output speed of the hydraulic motor kept constant as the control objective, the sliding-mode controller of the single-channel motor is designed for the inner loop, while the double-channel cross-coupled enclosed-loop control is applied to the outer loop. Adjustments then are made to the speeds of the two motors, thus finally managing to realize the constant control on synchronous output of the two motors. Both simulation and test results indicate that this control method has produced higher control accuracy and robustness, with the system output speed difference lowered by 57.6%, the stability adjustment time shortened by 25% on average, and the synchr... Keywords: chloride volatilization, fly ash, harmless, heavy metal, leaching characteristics
Vitrification has attracted much attention as an efficient method for solidifying heavy metals in hazardous solid wastes, but its effect is limited when hazardous solid wastes contain chlorides. Aiming at fly ash, a normal chlorine-containing solid waste, a novel process of chlorination melting and glass curing was developed to completely realize the harmlessness of heavy metals. Melting temperature, time, and auxiliary agent were adequate to realize the harmlessness, and their influence on the migration and transformation of Cl, Na, Pb, and Zn and the leaching of slag were studied. The results showed that the majority of Cl, Na, Pb, and Zn in the fly ash had been transferred to the soot, and the residual part in the slag had been solidified in glass by controlling the process conditions. Under the optimized conditions (12 wt.% CaO and 5 wt.% SiO2 was added, the N2 flow ratio was at 1 L/min, and the melting temperature was 1300 °C for 2 h), the leaching index was determined, including... Keywords: Fault Detection, k-nearest neighbor, mutual nearest neighbor, outliers, process monitoring, pseudo-neighbors
The k-nearest neighbor (kNN) method only uses samples’ paired distance to perform fault detection. It can overcome the nonlinearity, multimodality, and non-Gaussianity of process data. However, the nearest neighbors found by kNN on a data set containing a lot of outliers or noises may not be actual or trustworthy neighbors but a kind of pseudo neighbor, which will degrade process monitoring performance. This paper presents a new fault detection scheme using the mutual k-nearest neighbor (MkNN) method to solve this problem. The primary characteristic of our approach is that the calculation of the distance statistics for process monitoring uses MkNN rule instead of kNN. The advantage of the proposed approach is that the influence of outliers in the training data is eliminated, and the fault samples without MkNNs can be directly detected, which improves the performance of fault detection. In addition, the mutual protection phenomenon of outliers is explored. The numerical examples and Ten... [more]

Keywords: construction quality, dam concrete, grey quality gain-loss
Based on Grey System Theory and the inverted normal quality gain-loss function, the inverted normal grey quality gain-loss function model is put forward. According to the constant compensation and hyperbolic tangent compensation, the grey quality gain-loss function model with nominal-type characteristics, larger-the-better characteristics and smaller-the-better characteristics is built. A multivariate grey quality gain-loss function model with multiple sub quality indexes and the concept of grey quality gain-loss cost are proposed. Case analysis is applied to the quality control of dam concrete construction, which verifies the applicability of the model and provides an important reference for research on the new theory of dam concrete construction quality control.

Keywords: enzymes, immobilization, microfluidic, multienzymes, pectinase, rhamnopyranosidase
Enzymes are outstanding (bio)catalysts, not solely on account of their ability to increase reaction rates by up to several orders of magnitude but also for the high degree of substrate specificity, regiospecificity and stereospecificity. The use and development of enzymes as robust biocatalysts is one of the main challenges in biotechnology. However, despite the high specificities and turnover of enzymes, there are also drawbacks. At the industrial level, these drawbacks are typically overcome by resorting to immobilized enzymes to enhance stability. Immobilization of biocatalysts allows their reuse, increases stability, facilitates process control, eases product recovery, and enhances product yield and quality. This is especially important for expensive enzymes, for those obtained in low fermentation yield and with relatively low activity. This review provides an integrated perspective on (multi)enzyme immobilization that abridges a critical evaluation of immobilization methods and ca... [more]

Keywords: arc bidirectional impeller, bidirectional axial-flow pump, frequency domain, pressure fluctuation intensity
To obtain the influence of airfoil camber on the internal pressure fluctuation of a bidirectional axial-flow pump, the unsteady Reynolds time-averaged Navier−Stokes (URANS) equation was solved to predict the internal flow structure under three airfoil camber cases. The airfoil camber was quantitatively controlled by airfoil camber angle. The pressure standard deviation was used to define the local pressure fluctuation intensity (PFI) inside the impeller and guide vane. Fast Fourier transform was applied to analyze the frequency-domain characteristics of the pressure signal near the impeller−straight pipe interface and impeller−guide vanes interface. The results were validated by the external characteristic test. Under the forward condition, the area of high PFI near the outlet and leading edge of the impeller increased with a decrease in airfoil camber angle, and that near the leading edge of the guide vanes shifted to the middle section with a decrease in airfoil camber angle. The mai... [more]

Keywords: component, controller area network (CAN) bus, support vector method (SVM), tractor power-shift transmission (PST), troubleshooting
Due to the harsh working environment of the tractor, the transmission can often be faulty. In order to ensure the reliability of its operation, it must be monitored and the fault discovered. In this paper, the support vector machine (SVM) method is used. The eigenvector conversion of the original data uses the following eigenvectors: Three fault modes (leakage fault of shift clutch hydraulic cylinder, blockage fault of oil passage, and blockage fault of proportional valve spool) are identified in matrix and laboratory (MATLAB) with the help of the library for support vector machines (LibSVM) toolkit, and the classification accuracy of test samples is 90%. The normal mode of the PST electro-hydraulic system and the three kinds of fault modes mentioned above are discriminated against, and the correct rate of fault diagnosis reaches 95%, which meets the needs of practical engineering. Analysis of the fault recording data of the power shifting transmission shift solenoid valve shows that t... [more]

The electrohydraulic servo variable speed volume pump control system (hereinafter referred to as ESPCS) is integrated with a permanent magnet synchronous motor (hereinafter referred to as servo motor), a fixed-displacement pump, and a hydraulic cylinder. By controlling the servo motor speed, the output flow of the system can be controlled, as can the displacement, force, and speed of the hydraulic cylinder. Compared with the traditional electro-hydraulic servo valve control system, the ESPCS has the advantages of high power-to-weight ratio, energy saving, and environmental friendliness. However, due to the extremely nonlinear flow output of the ESPCS, further improvement of system control performance is greatly hindered. This paper focuses on the nonlinear characteristics of servo motor, fixed-displacement pump, hydraulic cylinder, and other key components in the system. A compensation method based on nonlinear characteristic mapping is proposed. Compared with the traditional PID contr... [more]

There is a huge carbon pool in the lakeside, which is sensitive to environmental changes and can very easily be transformed into a carbon source as land from the lake is reclaimed. In this paper, West Mauri Lake was employed as a case study to examine soil organic carbon (SOC) and its controlling factors along the lakeside. Four transects of land use (i.e., vegetation) types along the landward lakeside were identified as the fluctuation zone, the beach zone, the mesozoic farmland rewetting zone and the xerophytic farmland rewetting zone. With the increase in soil depth, SOC in the lakeside decreased significantly (p < 0.05). SOC had an obvious seasonal variation (p < 0.001), ranking in order: winter (December) > spring (February) > summer (May). Among the aforementioned transects, SOC density differed significantly (p < 0.05), showing a significant increasing trend. Pearson correlation indicated that most soil physiochemical factors showed a significant correlation with SOC (p &l... [more]

Keywords: actuator saturation, AETS, deception attacks, leader-following consensus, multi-UAV
This article is concerned with the problem of leader-following consensus tracking control for multi-unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems under deception attacks and actuator saturation. While guaranteeing the expected control performance, a novel adaptive event-triggered scheme (AETS) is developed to reduce the frequency of data transmission among UAVs and reduce the release of redundant data, where the adaptive threshold can be adjusted online according to the dynamic error instead of giving a default value. With the help of a new Lyapunov function, sufficient conditions and security criteria are developed to ensure that all following UAVs could reach secure consensus asymptotically with a leader UAV. Lastly, an illustrative example is presented to validate the effectiveness of the designed method.

The method is based on hyperbolic tangent extended state observer and adaptive fuzzy fractional order global sliding mode control with exponential reaching law. The novel compound control scheme has the following advantages: Firstly, the extended state observer with hyperbolic tangent function can improve the estimation ability for the system state and complex disturbance without detailed knowledge of the controlled plant and disturbance model. Secondly, the global sliding mode control method based on fractional calculus can improve the response speed and robustness of the system, and provide a more flexible controller structure than the traditional sliding mode controller. Thirdly, the adaptive fuzzy controller is introduced to approximate the sliding mode switching term, so as to reduce the chattering phenomenon of the system. In ad... [more]
Advanced Dynamics Processes Applied to an Articulated Robot

Keywords: articulated robot, dynamics, kinematics, Lagrange equation, two stepper actuators
The paper presents the dynamics of a 2R planar articulated robot, developed by two original methods. One is the classical “Lagrangian” adapted by the author, and the second method is absolutely original. The dynamics of the robot are based in both cases on the variation of the inertial forces in the mechanism, or practically on the influence of the masses of the moving elements of the robot. The influence of external loads, weights and the load to be transported is also taken into account. Another original element of the work is the choice of speeds in such a way that they correspond to an optimum necessary for the inverse kinematics imposed on the robot. For this reason, the dynamic operation will be quiet and without large variations or vibrations. If the speeds of the two electric motors (preferably stepper motors) areadapted to those recommended by the author, the controller (PID) used will have a very light load. It is even possible to eliminate it if the adjustment of the two ste... [more]

In this paper, a set of novel adaptive control strategies based on an advanced G-L (proposed by Ge-Li-Tam, called GLT) fuzzy system is proposed. Three main design points can be summarized as follows: (1) the unknown parameters in a nonlinear dynamic system are regarded as extra nonlinear terms and are further packaged into so-called nonlinear terms groups for each equation through the modeling process, which reduces the complexity of the GLT fuzzy system; (2) the error dynamics are further rearranged into two parts, adjustable membership function and uncertain membership function, to aid the design of the controllers; (3) a set of adaptive controllers change with the estimated parameters and the update laws of parameters are provided following the current form of error dynamics. Two identical nonlinear dynamic systems based on a Quantum-CNN system (Q-CNN system) with two added terms are employed for simulations to demonstrate the feasibility as well as the effectiveness of the proposed...
