Advanced Process Controls Engineer at FPInnovations
FPInnovations is looking for an individual who can identify, develop and apply novel control strategies for the Pulp and Paper industry. This will involve conducting data analysis, control assessment, process modelling, and benefit analysis, as well as design and implementation of advanced process control applications in a continuous manufacturing setting.
Process Controls, the Advanced Process Controls Engineer will:
- Identify, develop, and implement novel advanced process control strategies and real-time supervisory systems
- Develop and maintain process control monitoring applications to ensure KPIs are achieved
- Develop unique solutions leveraging the combined knowledge and experience of a diverse team of engineers, sensor scientists and process experts
- Write technical reports and process control documentation
- Take initiative in planning and executing projects
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Collaborate with other teams and contribute to diverse projects as opportunities arise
QUALIFICATIONS
- A Chemical or Electrical Engineer with a PhD or Masters’ degree and a specialization in process control, with direct application experience in a manufacturing setting considered an asset.
- Registered or eligible to register with the Engineers and Geoscientists BC
- Experience developing continuity-based models of chemical processes
- Experience with advanced control techniques:
- Black and grey box process model identification
- Discrete time control design
- Multivariable control
- Kalman filtering and observer design
- Optimization (LP, NLP, etc.)
SKILLS
- Proficient with Matlab and Simulink
- Experience with object-oriented programming and languages (i.e. C#, C++, etc.) is considered an asset
- Experience with industrial communication protocols (i.e OPC, Modbus) is considered an asset
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Team player, curious and focused on improving the forest sector
- Resilience, adaptability to changing priorities
- Ability to work on several projects simultaneously and independently, excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize effectively, and a strong sense of initiative
- Fluency in English (written and spoken), French is considered and asset
