Prediction Method and Application of Hydrocarbon Fluid Migration through Faulted Cap Rocks

Hydrocarbon fluid migration through faulted cap rocks was determined by comparing the maximum connected thickness of cap rocks required for hydrocarbon fluid migration and the actual values, since cap rocks are important in the study of hydrocarbon fluid distribution in petroliferous basins based on its migration mechanism(s). The maximum connected thickness required was identified by comparing the cap rocks, fault displacement, and oil/gas distribution. The hydrocarbon fluid at the Putaohua reservoir migrated to the overlying Saertu and Heidimiao reservoirs in the Bayan Chagan Area, northern Songliao Basin. This was predicted to demonstrate the validity of the method. New Insights into the Genetic Mechanism of the Miocene Mounded Stratigraphy in the Qiongdongnan Basin, Northern South China Sea

The origin of deep-water mounds has been a topic of debate in recent years. In this study, newly collected seismic data were employed to characterize the mounds within the Meishan Formation in the Qiongdongnan Basin and a novel model was proposed. The result showed that pervasive mounds and ‘V’-shaped troughs were alternately distributed at the top of the Meishan Formation. They appeared as elongated ridges flanked by similarly elongated gullies, with the trending parallel with the strike of the basinward slope. The mounded features were considered to be formed in response to the tectonically induced seabed deformation. The differential subsidence steepened the slope that was equivalent to the top of the Meishan Formation (ca. 10.5 Ma), which offered sufficient driving forces triggering the slope’s instability. Applying the Geodetic Adjustment Method for Positioning in Relation to the Swarm Leader of Underwater Vehicles Based on Course, Speed, and Distance Measurements

The research consisted of simulating the movement of a single vehicle in relation to the swarm leader on a square-shaped path, taking into account measurement errors characteristic of typical cheap navigation devices and the hydroacoustic system. The research showed that these methods allow for estimating position coordinates with an accuracy of about 0.5 m (RMS) in the case of a calibrated navigation system and about 3.6 m (RMS) in the case of a non-calibrated navigation system. It also showed that it can provide a higher accuracy of estimating position coordinates in terms of abeam angles of the swarm leader (relative bearing equal to approximately ±90°), as well as while ensuring minimizing systematic errors values and proper estimation of mean errors values concerning course and speed measurements.

A series of experimental tests on flow-induced motion (FIM) and energy conversion of two rigidly coupled triangular prisms (TRCTP) in tandem arrangement were conducted in a recirculating water channel with the constant oscillation mass mosc. The incoming flow velocity covered the range of 0.395 m/s ≤ U ≤ 1.438 m/s, corresponding to the Reynolds number range of 3.45 × 104 ≤ Re ≤ 1.25 × 105. The upstream and downstream triangular prisms with a width of 0.1 m and length of 0.9 m were connected by two rectangular endplates. Seven stiffness (1000 N/m ≤ K ≤ 2400 N/m), five load resistances (8 Ω ≤ RL ≤ 23 Ω), and five gap ratios (1 ≤ L/D ≤ 4) were selected as the parameters, and the FIM responses and energy conversion of TRCTP in tandem were analyzed and discussed to illustrate the effects. To study the spatial distribution and scale of oil and gas near faults in petroliferous basins, a prediction model is established for the degree of damage that faults in different stages of evolution exert on the sealing ability of mudstone cap rocks by calculating the stages and degree of fault damage to the sealing ability of mudstone cap rocks. This model is applied to the Nanpu 5th Structure and the results show that at survey lines L2 and L8, the F1 Fault destroyed the sealing capacity of mudstone cap rock of the 2nd member of Dongying Formation (E3d2). The undamaged cap rock stage, when the degree of damage was zero, persisted from 23.8 to 16.0 Ma at survey line L2 and from 23.8 to 13.6 Ma at survey line L8. The tracking of magnetic field lines can be very expensive, in terms of computational burden, when the field sources are numerous and have complex geometries, especially when accuracy is a priority, because an evaluation of the field is required in many situations. In some important applications, the computational cost can be significantly reduced by using a suitable approximation of the field in the integrated regions. This paper shows how Chebyshev polynomials are well-suited for field interpolation in magnetic field-line tracking, then discusses the conditions in which they are most appropriate, and quantifies the effectiveness of parallel computing in the approximation procedures.

This paper presents the results of detonation parameters for ammonium nitrate-polyhydroxy alcohol mixtures and ternary explosive compositions modified by flaked aluminium. The detonation velocities, overpressures of blast waves and their specific impulses were determined. It was shown that the viscosity of liquid fuels is the leading property that determines the detonation parameters of the tested compositions.

In shear wave far detection logging, dipole-source radiation is the main factor influencing the amplitude of the reflected shear waves. In this paper, a method is derived with the far-field asymptotic solution to calculate the dipole-source radiation of shear waves in a fluid-filled borehole. Then the dipole-source radiation of the shear waves is simulated under both low and high frequencies. In addition, the influences of formation elastic parameters on the dipole-source radiation of the shear waves are analyzed and the variations of the radiation characteristics of the shear wave with source main frequency and borehole radius are compared. Results show that the density and compressional wave velocity of the formation have little effect on the dipole-source radiation of the shear waves. Affected by Tianshan uplift, the southern Junggar Basin has experienced multi-stage tectonic movements and formed many large-scale anticlines with zonal distribution. The key to hydrocarbon exploration is to accurately implement anticline traps. This paper is guided by the fault-related folds theory to tectonically interpret several seismic profiles in the southern Junggar Basin and then summarize the anticline types and their hydrocarbon accumulation characteristics. This paper showed that the southern Junggar Basin has a tectonic assemblage pattern of “multi-detachment layers and multi-phase superposition”. Transverse vibration of drillpipe in coring drilling is undesirable. Here, the influence of the core on drillpipe vibration is considered for the first time. Attention is focused on the vibrations of the coring drillpipe as these vibrations lead to contact and collision between drillpipe and core. A reduced-order model of drill string motion is established considering fluid load and core constraints. This model considers fluid action as distributed load and drillpipe as beam structure. Baikouquan oil field is composed of multiple interbedded, thin, low-permeability layers, which are required to vertically fracture multiple layers and to create complex fractures for economic development. While previous studies have constructed various credit default prediction models with brilliant performance, the class-imbalance problem in the credit default dataset cannot be ignored, where the numbers of credit default cases are usually much smaller than the number of non-default ones. To address the class-imbalance problem, we proposed a novel CT-XGBoost model, which adds to XGBoost with two algorithm-level methods for class imbalance, including the cost-sensitive strategy and threshold method. In recent years, connected automated vehicles (CAVs) have attracted much attention, and the coordination strategy of CAVs in isolated intersections has been widely discussed. However, these algorithms for isolated intersections cannot be directly applied in a multi-intersection road network (MiRN). The coordination strategy in the MiRN requires further investigation. This paper proposes a two-tier strategy for CAV coordination in the MiRN. First, we analyze the coordination problem in isolated intersections and formulate it as a mixed-integer programming problem. This paper highlights field studies to determine the nature of variations in the load on the sucker-rod string during short-term gas extraction from the wellbore annulus. The results of step-by-step gas extraction from the annular spaces of the wells of fields developed by PJSC TATNEFT are provided. In the course of investigations, we have obtained both the trends of maximum and minimum loads on the polished rod during annular gas extraction, and the dependence of maximum load increment on the rod string with respect to pump size and pressure variation in the annular space. The analysis of the research data resulted in the elaboration of guidelines for short-term extraction of annular gas from wells operated by the PCP units.
Autoregressive Reconstruction of Total Water Storage within GRACE and GRACE Follow-On Gap Period

For 15 years, the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) mission have monitored total water storage (TWS) changes. The GRACE mission ended in October 2017, and 11 months later, the GRACE Follow-On (GRACE-FO) mission was launched in May 2018. Bridging the gap between both missions is essential to obtain continuous mass changes. To fill the gap, we propose a new approach based on a remove−restore technique combined with an autoregressive (AR) prediction. We first make use of the Global Land Data Assimilation System (GLDAS) hydrological model to remove climatology from GRACE/GRACE-FO data. Since the GLDAS mis-models real TWS changes for many regions around the world, we further use least-squares estimation (LSE) to remove remaining residual trends and annual and semi-annual oscillations. Analysis of amplitudes of transmitted waves (TAVO) is an extension of the conventional AVO analysis using amplitudes of reflected waves. In this study, we introduce the common transmission point (CTP) gather, which is a new domain that is convenient for TAVO analysis. A CTP gather is formed by binning traces that have the same transmission point across a layer interface. We use the proposed domain to invert the ratios Δαα, Δρρ, Δββ, and βα in a model consisting of a gas channel nestled within an oil reservoir. The TAVO equations are fitted to amplitudes calculated by Zoeppritz equations within CTPs inside and outside the channel. Within each CTP gather, we use all traces with incidence angles less than 90% of the critical angle (if any) as TAVO approximations break down beyond this point. The proposed CTP TAVO analysis method estimated Δαα, Δρρ, Δββ, and βα in the gas channel within 1% of their corresponding true values.

In order to study the flame propagation characteristics of a ethylene/polyethylene hybrid explosion under pressure accumulation, a visual pressure-bearing gas/power hybrid-explosion experimental platform was built. The flame propagation characteristics of polyethylene and ethylene/polyethylene hybrid explosions in the closed vessel were analyzed. The results show that the flame brightness, flame front continuity and average flame propagation velocity of polyethylene dust explosion in the closed vessel increased first and then decreased when the polyethylene dust concentration increased. The curve of the flame propagation velocity with time had obvious pulsation characteristics. Adding 1% and 3% ethylene to different concentrations of polyethylene dust significantly improved its explosion flame brightness, flame front continuity and average flame propagation velocity. Biogas resources in the Sanhu area of the Qaidam Basin have great potential, but there are few studies on biogas from shale, especially on the accumulation conditions of shale biogas. The study of biogas accumulation conditions of quaternary shale in the Sanhu area is of great significance to the theory of biogas accumulation and the guidance of exploration and development. This paper takes Quaternary shale in the Sanhu area as the research object. It is analyzed from multiple perspectives of shale hydrocarbon generation conditions, reservoir conditions, as well as hydrodynamic and structural conditions. Through the experiments of soluble organic carbon analysis and porosity and permeability analysis, the accumulation conditions of shale biogas reservoirs are clarified. The results show that the quaternary shale has a high soluble organic carbon content and high salinity formation water, which is conducive to late methane biochemical generation. The damage of a long tunnel is found in parts with an adverse geological structure zone under an earthquake. The phenomenon is normally the consequence of a non-uniform seismic load. Thus, to reveal the mechanism of the phenomenon, the dynamic response of the lining structure in a long tunnel passing through an adverse geological structure zone subjected to a non-uniform seismic load is mainly studied in this paper. Firstly, based on the random ground motion synthesis theory, the non-uniform ground motion acceleration−time history curves that reflect local site effects, such as traveling wave effects and attenuation effects, are generated. Secondly, the behavior of the tunnel with a different adverse geological structure zone (including different inclinations, thicknesses, and lithologies) under non-uniform seismic input is studied.
